Wow, flights are still so expensive...

My family and I visit orlando every President's week for the past few years. I usually have my tickets by now but I have been watching the ticket prices since May and the prices are still very high. I usually spend between $150 and $200 per ticket to fly out of NYC non-stop. Tickets start at $350+ at this time for the same ticket. And the flights show there are still plenty of seats available. I have to buy 5 tickets so maybe we'll have to take a year off in 2005 :( . Anyone else finding the same thing?

With the cost of fuel so high at the moment I doubt you will see too many reductions on ticket prices :sad2:

I would keep checking.....with airlines threatening bankruptcy and the price wars that have been happening....

I have found lately unlike the past...the best ticket prices are showing up just a few months prior to when you wish to fly....

I would hold off purchasing for a couple of months to see what happens with the prices...

You should try going on a different day of the week. For instance, we usually fly out on a Saturday morning but we were able to fly out on a Wednesday morning and got the airline tickets dirt cheap.

Good idea which I've used before but my wife is a teacher. That combined with the pain of taking the kids out of school early has caused problems in the past.

Hi Jeff:

I was running into this too and for the heck of it checked Orbitz one night and lo and behold United had a round trip for $152.40 albeit with a stopover in Chicago:confused: I snagged them even though I was hoping for a direct flight--the times and dates were good. I work at a school too, but will take the Fri. before off (the 18th) and return on the 25th. When I got this deal, I posted a heads up on this board. Unfortunately, the fare is gone now. I would sign up with travelocity or orbitz or keep checking sites like those. Good luck!

We're planning a trip for President's week also, and the flights from Philadelphia are still sky-high.

I'm holding tight until Southwest releases their Feb. flights (in the next few weeks I hear), and seeing what happens then. It's a little nerve-wracking, since I like to plan WAY ahead.

Since I will buying tickets for 6, if they don't get below $200 we may have to discover the joys of driving to Florida!:p

BTW, Zurgswife, I am also from Bryn Athyn, and my oldest will start 7th grade there next week. I keep hoping to run into you, and maybe I will now!

I have been checking daily for flights out of PHL to MCO and yes!!!- they are expensive. Even if you get a good base rate, the taxes and fees really push it up. Then add on a rental car. It is still cheaper for our family of 4 to drive and stop over one night each way.

I'm trying to find decent airline tickets for the week before Presidents' Week for a Disney Cruise. I want to leave on February 12 and return on February 17th (out of Detroit). Unfortunately, that is the weekend of Valentine's Day, which I think will help to keep rates high. I, too, am waiting on SWA to open up their fares to February. I have a $400 credit with SW and would love to use it. They don't go non-stop to Orlando from Detroit, but if the fare is decent and I can use the credit, it would be worth it to stop.

I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Have you looked at JetBlue? If you fly out of JFK they have the best planes and some of the best prices.
