Wow...dose of reality. Thankful for my DVC

I tried to get the information for my question with reading this up to date thread, but it seems it has me even more lost. You guys are so knowledgeable about this stuff and well I AM NOT!

First off I'm stealing this thread and if i should not please tell me where to post these questions!!! (If you use abbreviations tell me what they mean)

MY brother has had RCI for forever and does not use it very often now that he is divorced and kids are grown and gone so he offered me a week for vacation. He said he isn't really interested in the work behind it but will help me out when he can, but I would have to do the resort search. He has weeks to exchange not points?
His resort is in North Conway, New Hampshire for a 2 bedroom? Not sure of the color of the week. (We will get together in the next few weeks)
He has let me rent weeks from him before and I have stayed in some really nice places...
How do I find out the power his unit had to trade?
How far in advance can/should I start looking?
In a perfect world we would spend a week at Animal Kingdom resorts. It will be either 3 or 4 of us. And it would happen the 2nd week in December 2015. (yes 2 long long long years away)

Thanks for anyones input. DIS always gets me on the right track for great vacations!

I assume DVC has different caliber exchange rates for its different resorts. Where does the Animal Kingdom resorts fall... High or low or plum down the middle?
find out the week and resort and double check any options for internal trading, floating weeks. Many of us are happy to check the trade power for II or RCI as best we can and for RCI, it's very easy.

I have just now (9 months later) put some ducks in a row.

My brothers time share has a TPU???? or 20. He has 4 weeks banked. One of which runs out before we need it so up to 60 TPU???? (I use TPU loosely as I'm not sure I am using it right)

This week he is paying up until October or 2016. His dues/fees are due next month.

I am interested in AKV either studio or 1 bedroom. (well of course 2 bedroom but I'm not greedy)

Our weeks (flexible) would be 1st choice December 2015 on the 11, 12 or 13
2nd choice December 2015 4,5,6. (these dates are the check in dates there.)

Now the questions:
ANY chance we might snag this or another DVC in Disney?
HOw do you get Savannah view if you do happen to get lucky?
Can you purchase discounted Disney Dining?
Park Tickets?
Should I go ahead and set up an OGS before he pays his dues? (can I/should I?)

Thanks for all your knowledge!

For Dec, 2015, I think your chances are ver good if you get this going. When you say pay up until 2016, I'd assuming you mean RCI rather than the resort maint fees. If the week has a TPU of 20 currently, you'll need to combine deposits. I'd combine 3 or all 4 of the weeks depending on the expiration of the week that expires the latest. When yo combine it'll cost a fee, I believe that's currently $109. The combined deposit will expire 2 years from the end of the month you do the combination. So you'll (he) end up with either a combined deposit of 80 (assuming all deposits are TPU 20 that expire the end of Sept (or Oct if you wait a few days) OR the same for a TPU of 60 plus a deposit that expires later. The only reasons not to combine all are that you want to search for more than one thing at one time or you're shortening the expiration of one or more deposits. 40 MIGHT get you what you want but it might not, you'll be close even for a 1 BR, I've often seen 1 BR in the low 40's though that time might be in the 30's.

Personally what I'd do is the following. I'd wait until 1 Oct and combine appropriate to the above info. I'd then put in a request for a 1 BR for AKV and any other resort you'll be happy with paying the exchange fee up front. List both weeks for Fri-Sun, don't get too greedy. Then it's simply a waiting game. Personally I wouldn't list a studio as acceptable and I'd stay off property before I'd take one in this situation when you consider you're chances are very good of being successful and the exchange fee and extra $95 fee are the same. As for view type, no way to know for sure what you'll get. It may be possible to know what you're getting and reject it at the time but would you really reject an exchange that matched your criteria other than it was standard view, I'd hope not in this situation.

As for dining and tickets, you have the same options as everyone else but don't have access to DVC discounts if applicable then.

Thanks!

Really I would love to stay at AKV... in any room. Savannah would just be the icing on the cake.

If we can't get into this I do have a plan B in place already, This vacation is so important to us.

In 2005 we took our then 9 yr old nonverbal autistic son to Disney.:artist: He started speaking in the middle of Splash Mountain. He has not stopped talking since! This trip will be celebrating his graduation from High School.

If we could afford a time share we would by all means own dvs and do Disney every year... It brought our son back to us. pixiedust:

That's a great story, thanks for sharing. I'm not sure what you have planned but you should have several backup options. One is to have a drop dead date in mind and opt for an off property exchange instead as you get closer. You should be able to get something workable at a decent place as late as a few weeks prior likely for a TPU of under 10. You could get a cash reservation on property as well.

So I've learned quite a bit since starting this thread. In fact, were heading to the HHI DVC tomorrow for a week in a 2br hanks to tradi in our week at blue tree resort in Orlando through rci. We also still have enough TPU to book another week off of our deposit. Guess living so close to disney it's easy to forget how in demand a week at a timeshare just outside of disney in the middle if July can be. Ha that's usually when we avoid the parks but not everyone has that luxury,

Still like DVC because I can stay on property basically whenever I want. But I'm happy with our other week and the RCI experience as well. Right now we still love the dvc resorts and are planning to use our Orlando timeshare to trade into VB and HHI but we will eventually branch out and try some other resorts as well.
