Okay, so I am planning on purchasing 300 points in a few weeks. I want to split the contracts either 150 for each or 160 and 140 so we can have two home resorts and also so I can hand down to kidlets in the future.

I am struggling with where to buy!! I REALLY don't want to mess this up! I really like Beach Club and would love to own there. So I am going to give it a whirl through Disney and see what the waitlist is like before I delve into the resale market.

My second contract is where I am baffled! I would like to have a beach option but am not sure if I want to pay higher dues for HH or VB. My kids would really love Wilderness so there is that option. Or do I take advantage of incentives with AKV or SS.

I have a husband who loves golf and four kids ranging from 13-5. I want to be able to have options for them. I really like the new pool area at AK but then I think with the huge inventory at SS and AK why buy there??

HELP|!!!!!!!!!!!

The perfect complement to 150 points at Beach Club is another 150 points at Beach Club.

You would put all 300 there? I have only seen it, not stayed there. Would love to hear more

I do not see a benefit in owning all the same resort. This is evident from the fact that we own at 5 in amounts of 250, 175, 150, 140 and 140. This is enough for us to book our extended family vacations 11 months out, and in a few years we want to use the points to book a nice 4-5 week get-away in Florida during Ohio's winter.

Do you ever think you will need or like a GV? That is something BCV doesn't have. It has a great location and fabulous pool and we think enough of it to have bought 140 points there, but I am glad to own at others as well.

It is also true that as empty nesters, we did not buy with the thought of passing these points to our children. We bought to use them for vacations that we want now, to be able to share these trips with family and friends during the time that we have to enjoy them. We are looking at a narrower time frame.

Anytime you read any post from rink, about anything, you have to read this part of his signature first:

The above post is actually probably one of those rare situations where rink is being serious, but I agree with Bobbi...sorta.

If you WANT to own all of your points at BCV, two 150 point contracts at BCV would make sense, both in terms of passing them down to kids, and for possible future sales purposes (a 150 point contract will sell easier and quicker than a 300 point contract). Keep in mind, of course, that the minimum first purchase direct from Disney is 160.

If you want more options, seperate home resorts would make sense.

When would you travel, what unit type do you need and where do you see yourself going on vacation to the beach? Certainly a BCV contract with either HH or VB would be the simplest answer to your situation. You can get in to VB most anytime except Feb and March, even then you can likely get in if you try and don't need a 3 BR. HH will be tougher for mid June to early August, easier for the rest. You may also want to consider DVC points plus another option such as a Marriott week which dominates HH or Wyndham or Bluegreen points which cover Daytona and Myrtle Beach well among other areas. If you want all DVC points I'd generally steer most people away from non WDW points (VB and HH). One could buy in and wait for HI or get all points at WDW at two different resorts and use those points for the occasional non WDW DVC trip. For that I'd recommend BCV plus AKV for your stated situation or possibly wait and hope for CRV if that tickles your fancy. And for 300 points, one might also consider 3 home resorts depending on the number of points you expect to use for a single stay.

Also note that some of the other timeshare systems may have things closer to your location for shorter or cheaper trips. That's true of Bluegreen for Wisconsin Dells and Branson as well as Jackson Hole. There are many choices, think through them all before going with one only.

Just a clarification, but if you are buying direct from Disney, then your first contract (i.e. the master) will need to be at least 160 points. So, in your above example, you will need to do the 160/140 option.

Now on the where to buy, personnally, I have all of my points at the same resort AKV. I decided to have them at the same resort for the flexibility in the room size. By having all of my points at one resort, if I want a GV, I can bank/borrow to allow me to book it at 11 months. Also I will probably be alternating between studios and 1 brs for most of my trips so for me it is easier to have my points at one resort.

That being said, after I do one more add-on at AKV in the next year or 2, I may decide to do an add-on at BWV or BCV so that I can book at 11 months for F&WF.

If I were you, I'd buy the 150 points now at BCV resale, and then USE them. Then decide if you want more points, where you want more points. There isn't any rush to buy all these points right now. Over the next year, read this board, call MS and talk to them regarding availability at other resorts, visit VWL or some of the other resorts. Figure out how much time you'll spend at the beach (and when!) Also, make sure every year WDW vacations are what you really want - we have 150 points (and are from Minnesota) and have discovered that for US, every other year is what we want - that gives us time to take other (non-DVC) vacations with our kids. If we want to slip in a little Disney, we can always pay cash like we used to. Consider another timeshare option (per Dean) or even cash for your beach trips. There are lots of nice resorts and nice timeshares - some of those timeshares are a better deal and better traders than DVC is.

We were going to bank the points for 2 2br units at Beach Club. I never even thought of doing 2 different time share companys but that makes sense. If we did 150 at Beach Club we could use the 300 points for a every other year Disney trip, which is what we would want to do.

Does anyone know of other good companies. All I know about is Marriott

We own Disney and Marriott. My brother owns Disney, Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt.

All are 1st class operations.

It depends on how you'll use them. The cheapest but good options will likely be Bluegreen, RCI points and Wyndham, all flexible points options. Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott are all good in their own way with all but Marriott working on points to a degree and Marriott is rumored to be heading that way. Given your location it seemed that BG would be a good fit but it does depend in part of the length and location of your usual beach travel and the unit type you need. There are other companies in addition that might fit well for you once you start to investigate.

Looked at Bluegreen a bit last night. Not crazy about the photos of the properties. We have friends that own Marriott so may see what they have to say.

Thanks for the info!

Any choice will be a compromise to a degree. BG and Wyndham will not be as high end overall as DVC and Marriott but do have some VERY nice places. There are a few I wouldn't stay at, a few that are very close to DVC/Marriott quality and several very nice options that are just below DVC but not enough to matter. If you compare value (what you get to cost), those 2 will be MUCH cheaper. BG covers MB well and has one of only 2 options in Charleston. As noted, 2 locations in Wisconsin Dells and a premier property (Big Cedar) near Branson. The are building in LV and recently have hooked up with Shell similar to BVTC for DVC. I wouldn't discount them, esp if you like points systems better.

Don't rule out an EOY (every other year) lock off 2 bedroom with another system. We bought an EOY Marriott Horizons week and we enjoy having it, along with our 260 DVC points!

You mention your four children and having enough points at a home resort with a grand villa (3 bedroom) is nice to have. Only BWV, OKW and SRR have that option at WDW. What's nice about BWV is the ability to save points with the standard rooms and it's a great home resort when looking to trade or transfer into the BCV. There both Epcot home resorts and in very high demand.

Good luck they all have there positives.

AKV will also have GV. AKV is also the only DVC with Concierge services if that is an interest to you. So if you want AKV Concierge, you'll need AKV points.

For some nice, higher-end properites, I'd look at Starwood. We're considering them for a Hawaii property. I'd advise you to research everything carefully on the TUG boards, but be forewarned that there are some fairly rabid DVC-haters over there!

Crisi also gave some very good advice about starting with a small DVC contract, using it for a while, and then deciding when/where/how much to add on.

The difficult thing about DVC is that no matter how many points you start out with, you will soon have a serious case of add-on-itis, so if you intentionally start small with a plan in place to add on later, you might be able to pace yourself a bit! :rotfl:

Thought that might be an option as well. We have extended family that we would like to bring one of these years. THere are four of them and six of us. Thought a grand villa would be a nicer set up than 2 2BR's.

Most DVC Disboarders think 2 2 bedrooms are a nicer set up for extended family. You can rent points to extend what you have if you need to. Extended family in close quarters can get - well, you find out how much you actually LIKE your family after spending three years of points on them to have them complain over who gets the master bedroom and how hot it is (or that its too cold to swim). Not to mention the whole "brother in law decides last minute that his family would rather spend vacation time and dollars going to Cancun.

Not sure how we would go. We don't see my sis in law very often at all so who knows.

Lots to think about!
