I called [right away] this a.m. & tried to book the cruise we wanted -- the special 4-nt Magic on Jan. 4, 2005 -- but the price was $300.00 more per person than the Wonder 4-nt {with the exact same itinerary} that is sailing only two days earlier on 1/2/05. Couldn't believe it.

We don't have the time (or extra $) to do the 7-day. Although we love the Wonder, we were hoping to sail once again on the Magic as we did our first DCL cruise - our honeymoon - especially since we're going w/out kids again in '05.

How is everyone else finding the '05 prices?

I asked the first guy I got & he only said that "that is what the rates are listed as". While he had me on hold double-checking the price my chin clicked the button & disconnected us  & when I called back I checked all of it again with a woman. She even wondered why, since it's the exact same time of year & itinerary, it would be different, but she double-checked also & said the prices were THAT different.

I wonder whether it has to do with different taxes, fees, or access charges related to being in the ports on different days than are usual for the 4 night cruise. Perhaps Disney had to pay extra to access the ports on those days or were unable to use the usual docking positions or something. Can't wait to find out--seems very interesting.

Extra charge for docking outside of their docking contracts, perhaps?

That is too bad. In 2001 we went on the Magic for a 3 night cruise while the Wonder was in dry dock. They didn't hike up the prices for that one (it was in September).

I wonder how other 2005 cruises compare to the 2004 prices.

There's another current thread I just posted on that someone does a comparison on. It sounds like 2005 prices definitely are higher.

Inflation, the price of fuel (it cost a lot more to run your car now than a year ago) - you know that the Magic get 52 feet to the gallon (the Wonder's "footage" is probably very similiar) and of course, Michael Eisner's huge salary/stock options/bonuses for NOT taking care of the Disney Theme parks and mediorce programming on ABC and numerous movies that flopped because of poor concept, timing or marketing (with some recient notable exceptions - and you can't count Pixars contributions, because the movies were create by Pixar, not Disney). Oh Sorry, don't mean to be a downer!

I'm sure glad that DCL still stands for quality!!!

The reason may be.... the Wonder has a contract w/ the ports....right? Well... since the Magic is just stopping at the ports once there is no reason to have have contract and might just pay a one time fee.... which may be high?!? Hmmm..... contemplation!

Sad fact of life, everything goes up but our salaries!!

The state of Indiana has not given it's employees a raise in 4 years. But at least it's a job!!!

Rae,
I never noticed that you lived in Indiana. My husband works at Ball State and we are actually "Buckeyes" at heart posing as "Hoosiers". We moved here 10 years ago, but my heart is still in Ohio.

But I guess moving to Indiana from Ohio isn't as big of a difference as coming from New York. I bet it was a real 'culture shock'.

From what I have seen with the 2005 prices, they don't look too out of line with the 2004 prices. But I am still waiting for the September 2005 prices. I have a 'dream' of doing a back to back 7 day cruise, but I think that will only be a dream. We always sail for my twin DD's birthdays, and it looks like we will be sailing on the Eastern itenary for quite awhile. I would like to do the Western too, but to do that we would need to do back to back cruises. I doubt DH would go for it---but until the prices come out, I can't try to convince him. He needs numbers!:smooth:

i just got a quote from DCL website a priced a 7 day like the one we are going on 11/13/04 but on 1/8/05 and the price was same and in march the price jumped over $500 for 3 people and cat 7

In another thread I tried to make a comparison between the 2004 and 2005 prices. Now that they are available online I can see that they appear to be only a little higher (not the $$$ difference that I had thought!)

In June 2002 I booked a 7 day eastern (17-Apr 2004) for ~ 4100.00. This same cruise for 2005 (16-Apr )is 700.00 more ~ 4800.00 for a family of four, cat 6 .... Both are Eastern and both are during the Spring Break week in Mass.

It is more, but if I remember correctly by Oct 2002 the prices had gone up a few hundred so it appears that they may be only a couple of hundred dollar difference.....However because the prices came out so late they did not offer the REALLY early booking savings that they did in 2002... ($200-300 can buy a lot of Conch Coolers!!!)

Why did it take so long for the 2005 prices to come out? Do you think they will ever offer the REBS again... :(

Been here in the Hoosier State for 18 years and there isn't a day I don't wish I could be back in upstate New York.

Guess that's why all our vacations are out of here!!

Amazing how different it is to be around people who talk and think at normal speed.
