Wound up at OKW due to booking error but loved it!

But if you would have gotten what you thought you were getting, you wouldn't have been able to enjoy our great resort! ;)

OKW is my home away from home...I think the one brs are generously large with a great layout. Well, it's nice to see such a favorable review and that it turned out to be a pleasant surprise for you! Glad you had fun! :earsgirl:

Isn't it fantastic when something doesn't work out the way you plan and then you are extra happy with the new experience? :flower:

AKA: "Magic." Let's leave some room in our lives for it :goodvibes .

"To make a long story short we loved OKW."

SSSHHHHHHHHHHH--let's keep it to ourselves, shall we?? :rotfl2:

We are hoping to rent points (first time) for a DVC studio stay (probably OKW) Dec 17-22, 2006 and just had a quick question. You all sound so informed about OKW. I was just wondering why they require fewer points then the other DVC properties? It looks like a fabulous place to stay and I can't understand why it requires fewer points.

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

The best explanation is two fold. One is that they made some mistakes in making the weekdays too low and the other is that is doesn't have the location or amenities of BWV, etc.

OKW was the first ( and original ) DVC resort. Disney had to "best guess" the values for the resort and see how the project turned out. Once they started selling OKW the points schedule was fixed. They can shuffle the points about to adjust individual seasonal (even daily) anomolies, but the TOTAL points for a particular unit size was fixed. If they were to increase weekday points cost for a studio they can ONLY do that by reducing the points costs for that unit at another day of the week or time of the year. Once Disney worked out that they had been a touch too generous in the size of the acommodations and the points costs for the units they made slight adjustments to the layout/sizes of the rooms and the per night costs of the units.

I would agree with Dean that the overall cost of the resort is probably slightly lower than say BCV or BWV due to their locations and higher level amenities and that this is a contributary factor in the lower cost of dues, points and purchase price. I would perhaps be slightly kinder to Disney and say that Disney erred on the side of caution when deciding on the original points cost for this resort as opposed to flat out saying they just "got it wrong" , I would also say that I think the lower cost isn't just limited to the week day costs at the resort. IMHO the weekend costs are a similar %age lower than the corresponding resorts. The difference between weekday and weekend costs between resorts is reasonably constant, so I think it's fairer to say Disney made the annual points total required for the OKW units a little lower than they probably could have got away with , without slowing down their sales. But even so I think it was important for DVC to be a run away success for Disney and how their flagship/opening resort sold was very important to them. It was far better to undervalue the resort and get massive sales than slightly overprice it and to under perform. They certainly learned quick enough with the following resorts LOL.

I originally booked our recent trip with three nights at OKW and three at SSR. I was on a wait list for BCV to replace our OKW nights. The confirmation for BCV came in and I filed it away. The day before the trip we realized MS gave us BCV for the first three nights and bumped our OKW to the last three nights. I do not know if this is a mistake on their part or do the try to squeeze in your first request at the expense of any part of your reservation? To make a long story short we loved OKW. We had a 1BR and we like how it felt as if you had your own home due to the spacious room and the layout versus BCV. It was also nice to have a few mellow days after BCV. BCV was fun, but packed and although people complain about OKW transportation it was better then the long walk it takes from BCV to SAB.
I don't know how anyone can give OKW a negative report. I've stayed at BCV and been to BWV and OKW is definately our family's favorite. Just the room sizes alone are a great advantage. The laid back atmospere and sprawling grounds is like having your own little neighborhood. I love staying in buildings 23. 24. 25.26 because of the nice views of the golf course. We like taking the fairy to downtown disney and the advantage of being able to poark right in front of your building is a added plus.
OKW is the very best for us.

Thanks for all the info. So hoping we can find someone who will rent us OKW DVC points for part of our WDW vacation 12/2006. The new waterslide looks wonderful (from pics).
