Wouldnt it be so much better to rent a car??

Time wise it makes alot of sense to rent a car, expecially if your going from hotel to hotel but the question is would it be worth it if you only have reservations at one hotel... for instance, if you only booked the Poly for one night of dinner, would you think its worth the money to rent the car just to get there in one night???
I rented cars before in WDW, staying on and off site and my best advise for you is if you do, take ribbons or a flag w/ you and tie it to the antenna... its always a pain to try and find it in the parking lots... You will know which is yours w/ an eye catcher on it! :)

one thing i forgot about parking... someone mentioned dtd and driving...we did that one time last trip( which was in off season but since others go to dtd don't know if that really matters)...and drove around for maybe 15+mins waiting for a place to open up... we ended up parking past PI to go to the far east part..the few mins for the bus would have been shorter..i think cause disney would rather relieve roadway congestion by having the wdw transportation, they don't really make it "easy" to drive hence the not so great parking situation at most places you might think you would benefit from a car ( ie resorts, dtd)

i do think the cab is a good idea if you don't want to take a bus

We drive down so we have a car. The only truly bad situation was if we were out at a resort past the time the parks closed. And in those cases, you can call a cab.

MK is definitely faster by bus both in the morning and even after wishes. The bus drops you off near the front entrance. By car, you have to park in the lot, then hop a tram, go under the road, and get to the TTC. Then you either have to hop the monorail or the boat and finally, you're near the front entrance. Coming back, You either wait in line at the bus stop, or you wait in line at the tram. That's after of course you wait in line at the monorail or wait for the boat to get back for its next run.

The rest are about the same. So you either wait in line at the trams and then trying to get out in the car or you wait in line at the bus stop.
Once you get the hang of using MGM as your transfer point if your resort and the destination resort aren't on the monorail, it becomes much easier. Then if you're out past the time MGM closes, you can use Epcot if an Epcot resort isn't involved or a cab if it is. We found bussing to MK, then riding the monorail over to an MK resort was a snap. If you're out past the time MK closes, call a cab to get back.

Notice the common thread here? I'm never using DTD as a hub. That's the key.

We always rent a car and use it often! It's nice for the ADR's. Well and I HATE busses, so that is my biggie. But we have never had a problem with the waits for the trams and such. But we always go off season.
