Wouldn't it be nice to have a DVC resort on the Monorail?

they said that the cost of construction for a new monorail was prohibitively expensive. However, he said that something was going to have to happen due to some environmental pact disney had made. Basically, the buses were pushing their limits. He said that the most likely would be some form of light rail.

Now, I have learned to take most info from a CM with a grain of salt, but this actually makes the most sense...

I never said anything of the sort. I simply stated that the idea that a CR announcement was imminent was unlikely due to all of the unsold inventory at SSR. If memory serves, that was back in December and I guessed that it would be at least 12 months before any new resort announcement. Four down, eight to go...

wow really 12 months? I seem to remember more like about 3 years you were guessing, must a been another person arguing these points

IMO, they'd be better off riding the current wave of SSR sales, sans discounts, as far as they can, and look to bring a new property into the fold toward the end of the decade

Why invest millions of dollars now in construction and marketing at two separate sites when the costs can be deferred for several years?

Why would DVC willingly absorb the maintenance and upkeep of rooms at two resorts as they attempt to sll the completed units?

I don't see the value in moving forward NOW with project that is a guaranteed success, rather than waiting another 2-3 years when SSR sales will be more mature.

You must have missed this one:

"Bottom line: Assuming that Phase 3 of SSR continues as scheduled, I'll be surprised if any new project is announced anytime in the next 12-18 months. If I'm wrong, so be it."

All of my comments were opinions on what DVC SHOULD do--not predictions of what they WOULD do. Several posts ago you claimed that I "...argued with me for days saying dvc would NEVER have 2 resorts selling at the same time ever again." And again, I did not make the statement "...DVC would NEVER..." My statements were made from the standpoint of what *I* would do if placed in that decision-making role. Reference your quote above which begins "IMO, they'd be better off..." It was never a prediction of what might happen...rather it was just one person's OPINION (right or wrong) of a manner in which the situation might be handled.

More to the point, why are you even bothering to rehash this yet again?

That does make a lot of sense. Light rail on the major bus lines could be done for a fraction of the cost of a monorail. Disney could "theme" them as (rather large) trollies. A trolley picking you up at SSR and depositing you at Epcot, or BCVs to MK.....They can be run along existing roads, they'd cut down on gas consumption and pollution and be a "treat" to ride.

The only advantage monorails have is they run above the roads, so they aren't real likely to get hit by cars. But they have that problem with buses now.

I likely have no idea what I'm talking about (what's new, hey?) but I thought light rail was usually also elevated? I know it is in many metro areas, and I guess I sort of assumed that Disney would do this too if it came to that, since the traffic issues would be such a headache. But then, I suppose it would be a headache to elevate it all too...

Now, what I'd like to see is someone attempting a subway in the swamp lands of Florida. I just don't want to be an investor then.

WDW is not going to connect any hotel, DVC or otherwise to a system - until all and I am all of its theme parks are connected.

that could easily take years - even if they go with the light rail.

however someone else says that since the light rail from Orlando IA to WDW is not going to happen. Don't expect anything.

the buses work fine.

they might have more programs like the ME - that encourage us not to get rental cars or drive for that matter.

their gasoline has improved alot - it is no longer that horrible smell....

The reasoning was, that the roads have reached their handling capacity and are experiencing girdlock more often. Although the cost of the monorail is expense, approximately $1 million per mile it would still be less costly than adding more lanes to all the road ways.
There is also the environmental aspect as the buses cause much more pollution per passenger mile than the monorails.

I really hope this is true. It would also make the parks so much more easily acccesible for people in wheelchairs.

Minneapolis just put in non-elevated light rail. Its elevated over certain roads, but for the most part it runs down the middle of the existing streets.

Well, not so much for me. After riding the monorails many times over the years, I tend to see them more as alternative forms of transportation and not attractions in and of themselves. The monorail is really only convenient for access to MK, since going to Epcot requires a change at the TTC, thus negating any perceived convenience, IMO. Additionally I found that my children and grandchildren didn't remain at stroller age for very long, so even that convenience quickly fades. I would probably utilize the 7-month window for an occasional stay at the monorail resort, but wouldn't be all that interested in buying points there.
