I may be a bit dense here, but what is the benefit of double booking? Is double booking having TWO reservations for the same day/time? If so, although I can see how it would add some flexibility, I think someone would have to be totally obsessed to do that. Oh wait, we are all spending our free time on a Disney message board, so I guess that is all of us.
I was GLAD that they changed it to 90 days. At 180 days out, although I am thinking about my trip (hence my constant visits to this site), I am not ready to start making dinner plans, as the dining plans ultimately decide how I am going to spend each day. At 90 days, with the trip on the horizon, I can think that through with more clarity. Plus, although I am obsessing 180 days out, my family definitely isn't, so it is hard to get them to take me seriously when I say, "So, where do you want to eat on the third night of our trip?"
To me, anything is good as long as it is fair. If everyone has to call at 90 days, what's the big deal. It is really only a big deal if I forget and then I find myself trying to make a reservation with 30 days to go. THAT is a pain. I just did that for my parents a few weeks back, and they were stuck with bad time slots, and they missed out on a few places where they wanted to eat.
Raising my hand to admit that I'm obsessive (but look at my screen name)!!

I used to make a ressie say at Mama Melrose or Hollywood & Vine for 2 diff. nites for the Fantasmic pkg. (but now you don't know when that will be so far out either) and I would make a ressie at say both Boma & Jiko (not knowing WHICH one I wanted yet) and I would maybe make a couple in Epcot somewhere. We like to say "we feel like Chinese tonight" or "I'm craving Mexican". But I ALWAYS called & cancelled whatever we didn't want as soon as we decided. We NEVER were just "no shows". I also liked to hear the weather forecast before deciding which night to do Fantasmic. Some days are just SURE to be rained out while others have less of a chance. I'd much, much rather go when the chance of rain is 20% VS 60%!!
We eat late (8:00ish) and when I was making plans for our trip over Memorial Day weekend I was FLOORED to find out that most of the parks still close at 7:00 over that weekend. The park hours are definitely another thing to consider. You HAVE to have those if you eat later. We ended up making ressies at 8:00 in DTD on 2 diff. nights because we figured at least they should be open past 7:00!!!
