from the floor of the movie theatre?

DH and I went to see Inception this weekend. We were both not impressed, but that is another story. The theatre starting filling up and incoming people kept scanning for seats. Eventually a group of people came in and sat on the steps in the bottom section and stayed there for almost three hours. No ushers anymore to help people find seats or tell them to move. I am sure it was against the fire code.

Never (for any movie)...not to mention as you said, it is VERY against fire code.

If you would have reported it to the people working at the theater they would have had them move, or leave. At the theater I work at we faced this problem a lot with twilight movies. They give them a refund or tickets for the next show, which generally start about 30 minutes after the previous

Yep I'm not sitting on the floor for any movie. I don't even like sitting close to the screen in a regular seat.

I remember seeing The Abyss. Back in the day and having to sit close to the front. There was a whole row of people sitting on the floor in front of the front row!

yes, but they sell every seat, so if you get there late and have a good size group, it's hard to find seats together.
I personally could t imagine sitting on the floor at a movie theater. Never mind the nasty stuff on the floor, the prices are atrocious!

In our theater, they never seem to get it right. I finally quit going to opening night movies because you could never guarantee a seat. It seems there is almost always someone sitting either on the floor, or on the edge of the stairs. I've complained before, and even sent the company an email, but nothing has ever changed. I hope those people who are sitting on the floor and stairs know that in an emergency situation they'll probably be trampled!

if if is an R rated, or popular movie there is a good chance that they didn't oversell, but people are sneaking in. I used to work at a movie theatre and that happened all the time. We however, did theatre walks, and if we did catch people sitting on the ground or steps we told them to find a seat or leave.

I wouldn't watch anything from the floor now but back in 1998 I sat on the floor to watch Lethal Weapon 4. There were seats but they were single seats spread throughout the theater and the 4 of us that went would rather just sit together. There was a large area on one side of the theater for a wheelchair and since there wasn't one we just used that so we could lean back on something.

Of course now we would just split up and watch it separately but at the time it seemed like a good idea.

I'm too old and creaky to even consider it. With my back issues, if I sat on the floor for 2.5 hours, someone would have to help me up and carry me to my car.
