Would You Want To Live To Be 100?

I would only want to live to be 100 if I'm a.) independent and mobile b.) in good mind and body and c.) have enough money to live on. Otherwise, I just want to live to be old enough to see my daughter through most of her adulthood and to spend a few years with my future grandkids. (and to pass on some wisdom to anyone who needs it).

Inspired by the "you can tell you're getting old" thread. I was wondering if people really want or would want to live to be 100. No special abilities, just be that old.

Personally my answer would be a resounding NO. Considering the callous way that I have taken care of myself up to this point...there is little chance of that happening anyway.

Added...I think we all can agree that if we could keep our minds and be physically able to be independent, it would be OK to live that long. The problem is that usually one or the other goes. That's what I am basing my question on.

Then no way.

Yes if I was healthy mentally and physically.:thumbsup2

Just like it has been said by many. As long as I am physically and mentally well then sure 100 sounds great. Just hope DH is still there beside me though.

It's just not being physically or mentally able that you need to consider, but also financially able to be independant.

I see a LOT of parents moving in with their children due to the fact that they cannot afford to live on their own anymore. It's not due to the fact that they weren't frugal with their finances, but the cost to own a home (not large), everyday bills and most of all the medical bills due to co-pays and prescriptions is having a tremendous impact.

As we live longer, expenses only increase and unfortunately our income does not keep pace - and no - I do not want to work till I'm 100 also!! (LOL).

I have known at least two that lived to be over 100. You know what? It seemed to me that they were very sad. All their friends and relatives were gone and in both cases they outlived their children. Would living to 100 be worth all that grief? Not to me!

I know there is no way to predict these things but if I could choose then yes as long as:
I don't outlive my children
My children and their children will have me around
I have enough money and health to remain independant

So in other words, yes as long as life is and remains good, no thanks if its tragic because I've got somewhere better to be :littleangel:

No, since I can't imagine being able to live on my own for that long.
