Would you want the government to create a fully funded BBC/RTE style radio service? We really don’t have one and not only do I think it would be extremely beneficial to the country but it would also create jobs that are needed. Thoughts?📻

No, because taxes could be used for more productive things (protecting schools) and it would be partisan based on whatever party controls. So no real unbiased information. Hard no for me.

No chance because I think there are enough nit-wits with microphones and am wholeheartedly against subsidizing idiocy, let people spew their own idiocy on their own dime.

In general, I'm ok with using taxes to pay for common good things because really, there is no longer any chance anyone is curbing spending. These days all we can do is direct where it's going because the ONLY certainties I have left are 1) money is leaving my household in taxes and 2) it is not coming back.

The BBC or RTE radio isn’t biased as far as I know. News isn’t really talked about on those stations except on certain stations at certain times of the day. And it wouldn’t be partisan if political topics were off limits.

Today there isn't a single thing thought/said/believed that is not somehow made partisan because it might make someone somewhere mad enough to vote a certain way... nothing is safe from the kooks.

A thing can be non-biased in a homogenous culture, the US is as opposite homogenous as is humanly possible.

Then what is the point? We already have plenty of options to listen to on the radio/satellite radio, my tax dollars do not need to pay for a government propaganda outlet. And if it is controlled by the government, there is absolutely ZERO chance it will be unbiased.

It would have educational programs, positive entertainment, and could have local sports broadcasting of sports that rarely get coverage in the local area (growing a following for kids to want to be more active in sports).

Unfortunately, kids don't listen to the radio. Again, that is all already out there if the public wants to consume the content. I think it's a waste of money for the reasons previously stated. We all have our own opinions and I respect yours, I just don't agree.

Part of the reason would be to get kids away from social media and instead go to a beach listening to a fun positive radio station. Just a thought. Also I kind of want to make sure radio won’t disappear the way cable/tv is.

It is a non profit chartered by an act of Congress and most of its member stations are public. It receives both private and public funding. It is what we would call quasi public.
People can call it whatever they want but it is nowhere near un-biased and I think it's a problem to fund thoughts with public money.

I actually miss unbiased info very much, I sort of think it existed once but really who knows. Nowadays the only way I get unbiased info is if I treat news like I'm looking at the sun during an eclipse. I peek at it a second then I clamp my eyes closed tight and try to gather thoughts and ideas from those shadow spots blinking behind my eyes after I look away. It's tedious and not very efficient but it keeps me from being blinded... it's all I got right now.
