Would you use up pts for a Fri nite arrival at midnight?

We're arriving at MCO around 10:30 so I know it will be close to midnight when we get to WDW. We currently have a Sat. arrival. Should I:

-Use the points to book Friday night as well (2BD BCV)
-Use Priceline to get a nice hotel by the airport and drive in early the next day
-Reserve a room onsite somewhere for the night and change over to the BCV during the day
-Other suggestions?

We do plan to purchase APs, so if we can get an AP rate for one of the nice hotels, that would be a plus... and maybe I'll even change it to Friday AND Saturday night if it's a nice price and a resort we haven't stayed at (like the AK Lodge or something).

Should I maybe post this in the hotels forum instead? I just thought you'd have some insight on the "cost" of using the points for what is really half a night....

Thanks!!

I certainly would not - but that is me - I hate to use those weekend points.

the airport has a hotel Hyatt - you can easily book it - although if you are going on priceline you can't request which hotel. I think all the deluxe type hotels have airport transportation - but I don't know for sure.

the problem with using your annual pass is that you will only have the certificate at the time of your arrival - but still getting there so late - I can't see that being a problem. I would go with a couple of rooms at Pop Century (see I am cheap.....)

I don't have a problem using points for weekends if you're able to check in at the normal time and take advantage of the room & resort for part of the day. But, I'd have to think twice about using up a day's points just for the use of the bed!!

I'd crash at someplace like Pop Century and leave everyone else sleep while I checked into the DVC accomadations. That way you'll be all set and enjoy the parks, etc. Don't worry about the AP you can show the certificate if they request to see it and then switch it over before you check out. Bottom line would I spend x number of points X $10.00 to crash, if you answered no than use an AP discount to book a room! I almost always answer no and have never regretted it!

We usually go one per year or so, but come from Seattle...so whenever we go, we end up in Orlando way to late to do anything.....we never use our points for the first night......last trip we booked a night at Port Orleans using an AP rate....it was quite inexpensive, but don't recall exactly how much......they transferred all of our stuff for us the next day and we just headed to the parks.....it really worked out well and i am sure we would do it again..........

good luck and have fun!

If you check in that late, your choice of rooms might be limited and you may have trouble getting your requests.

If you check-in the next day, you'll have a choice of rooms from those checking-out that day.

I agree...AP discount on a room on site (for fri and poss sat), IMHO, is the best choice. But a strong second in my mind is if you are taking a car service, staying at a Hotel near the airport might be very easy...and you could get early am car service, etc. But really it has to to with how you use your points...you will know which choice is right for you.

We always use points for a weekend stay but never if we are arriving as late as midnight. Stay someplace cheap, save the points and get an early start on Saturday morning.

Pop Century and the All Stars look just the same in the dark.

If money isn't a huge issue, why don't you stay somewhere else Friday and Saturday night (ie- a moderate or a deluxe with a deal), and then move to the DVC property Sunday.

We have done that several times in the past. It's easy becasue WDW moves you, it's kind of like 2 vacations in one.

Whenever we are going to be arriving late in the evening, we just book a room at the Hyatt in the airport for that night, then arrange for our towncar to take us to our resort the next morning. It may cost a little more, but by staying at the airport, it doesn't seem as much like 'moving' twice as if we had to travel from the airport to a hotel/motel, then from there to the resort.

I am arriving at 11:50pm this Saturday:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I really cheaped out.....HoJo's $27 a night. It has mixed reviews on the Budget board and hotel board but they way I see it if there are no live animals in my room the difference pays for a tour. (PC was $74 + tax with AP rate)

I can let you know next week what I really think

We always get in really late on a Friday night and spend the first night at an airport hotel. We then get up early Saturday am and check in. No wasted points and you can usually get a great rate on Priceline.

Usually we don't arrive until after 10:00pm coming from California so we always stay somewhere else.

Last year was a bit of a pain because where we stayed only shuttled from hotel to airport. So we got in late.. went to the hotel via shuttle.. went to bed (had to get use to the time change)...got up.. went back to the airport.. and then caught the Mears shuttle to Coronado Springs. We were trying to save as much as we could because we were going to buy DVC that trip and needed every bit of monies we had :(

This year we're going to "splurg" and stay at the Pop Century and then go to Saratoga Springs :o

Good luck in whatever you decide!

Deifnitely not. but I am a point monger when it comes to this stuff. I am still burning about how many points I used for the cruise LOL But I learned LOL mainly off these boards. I would priceline or stay at POP or somewhere. Even the mods have good rates going.
