Would you think this is a fun gift?

My mother is throwing a surprise 50th birthday party for her husband. She is going with a Margaritaville theme, and I wanted to tie my gift in to that theme.

I've been brainstorming with cash ideas, and 50 ideas. I want to the presentation to be something unique. I thought of 50 of each coin and came up with $20 (nickels, dimes, quarters), but no idea how to present. One idea was attaching them to a picture frame, but I didn't think he had a need for a frame.

I finally came up with freezing coins in ice cubes. I will put the coin cubes in a blender closer to gift opening time for presentation - so essentially he will get two gifts (I think they need a blender, have to check with my mom).

I wanted to do 50 half-dollars, but they will be too big to fit the ice cube tray, so I'm thinking 25 gold dollar coins instead. Thing is, will he find use for dollar coins? I know most vending machines accept the dollar coins, but where else can you use them. Do change machines give quarters for them? (they use a laundromat)

The coins in ice sounds like a good way to present it. I can't really think of another way to give someone that many coins. The blender goes along well with the Margaritaville theme (and is even a practical gift if he needs a blender--I like things I can actually use).

Those are the ones the Tooth Fairy brings to our house!!;) You can use them anywhere a dollar can be used, but sometimes you have to explain that they are legit:thumbsup2 Great idea!!:thumbsup2

I love the idea, but I'd skip freezing them. To me, that just seems messy. How about the blender, with the coins just tossed in it. Maybe you can make a recipe card that says something like "50 nickels, 50 dimes and 50 quarters all add up to $20 for your Margarita ingredients! Happy 50th birthday."

The tooth fairy brings them to our house too! My kids hang onto them until they want something then they trade them to me for paper dollars. He could take them to the bank and trade them for paper money as well.
