Would you take your children to MK on NYE?

Hi,

I was wondering if taking my 11 and 7 year old daughters to MK on New Years Eve was a good idea? I know it will be crowded and we will not get to ride much of anything, but I thought they would enjoy the fireworks and parades.

Would you take your children there on NYE?

Thanks

I wouldn't. It's the most crowded time of the entire year at MK. It's common for the parks to close to new visitors early in the day. You're also likely to have problems finding a place to view the parades and fireworks, have long lines for any purchases, and have long lines for the restrooms. Not to mention trying to keep track of the kids in the crowds...

Are you already going to be at WDW? If not, then I would consider going on a weekend in January. You'll still have fireworks and parades (admittedly, not the exact same ones) and you'll be able to enjoy yourselves much more with little/no crowds.

As an alternative you could do the night before NYE - we did this two years ago and it was great. My dds were 8 and 10 at the time and really wanted to see the MK fireworks so my dh talked me into it.

They had pre-nye fireworks at midnight and they were fantastic we also rode a few rides afterward and slept in the next day. Of course the park was crowded but not nearly as bad as the next evening. We felt we got the best of both worlds - MK on NYE-eve and then we spent NYE at the resort - and watched some of the Epcot fireworks from the boardwalk area.

Either way - have a great trip!

I'd take them at opening on New Year's day instead. All those people that stayed up will still be in bed and the park will feel empty by comparrison. Start your year off with a lower stress early morning in the MK. WOW. that would be a great way to start the new year!!! :thumbsup2

Again. NO. This will be capacity crowds and more -- unless you don't mind really big crowds and long lines....take your kids for a relaxing dinner and go to bed...the morning will be worth "missing" midnight in MK.

We are arriving early on NYE and staying until Jan. 8. Originally, we had planned to eat at a boardwalk resort and watch fireworks from there. The problem is our friends would like us to join them at the MK. They could not imagine being anywhere else on NYE. As much as I would love to be with them, the thought of those crowds does not thill my husband or me.

I think we are leaning toward our original plans of going to the boardwalk area. If it were just me and my DH I would not be as concerned. Also, my oldest daughter seems to get nervous in large crowds. I would hate to spend the money for the tickets and then have to leave. (Our reservation for NYE is room only-we would have to buy one day tickets. Our package does not start until Jan. 1.)

Thank you for all of your helpful ideas and suggestions.
