Would you take chances with a standard view room?

The view at WL is nowhere near as important as the view at AKL - I have stayed at WL and picked Woods view but the Savannah view - now that would be really special but out of my price budget.

Thanks
Jason

My son and I stayed at AKL in February. We were upgraded to a Savannah view, which is certainly better than no view. But it's not worth $50 a day extra. In fact, unless you get up fairly early, you aren't likely to see any animals at all.

AKL has some wonderful public spaces that are really better for viewing than one's balcony. A room view might make the stay more enjoyable, but there is plenty to see without it.

Unless you are just absolutely dead set on having a view, book the standard room and hope for an upgrade, especially if you are going off season. If you don't get the upgrade, take all the money you save and buy dinner at the California Grill and enjoy the view from there.

Personally , I would never take my chances when it comes to view. A good view can really make or break the whole resort experience. Especially at AKL or WL - to me there would be little point of staying at either of these resorts unless you had a Savannah view (AKL) or woods or Courtyard view at WL. It defeats the purpose to stay at an Animal Kingdom Lodge and then have to look out a parking lot from your room. If I'm staying at a resort whose whole theme is the "outdoors" or "wildlife" then I would expect that theme to be carried through the room as well. I would truly be disappointed in a standard view room at either of these resorts. Same with POR, POLY, or BC. Maybe I'd go standard at the Value resorts , but definitely not at any of the great themed resorts.

For those of you who have received upgrades, how did you get them? Were they offered to you or did you ask for the upgrade at check-in? We are trying to determine where to book for October, and would never count on an upgrade, but always look for a bargain!

I visited in a slow period. The lady at the desk just told me I had Savanah view. In fact, I was scared I would be charged a higher rate as she did not make clear it was free.
