Would you take a 6 week old to Disney???

And without being rude--scheduling a 2 week early induction for a trip...just doesn't make medical sense to me.
I read the OP so quickly I missed this. Please, unless there is a medical reason you need to be induced, let your body decide when it's time.

I would wait a bit, for the reasons others have stated here. Disney isn't going anywhere, it will be there when your little one is a bit older.

I also wouldn't induce 2 weeks early just to be able to get the free dining...

LOL, when you put it that way, it really sounds funny. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

But, I think the OP wants to be induced early regardless. (a whole other debate) At least, that is the impression I got.

I wouldn't do it. All of the reasons mentioned are good ones - colic, change in routine, ONE room for the entire family, heat, immaturity in the baby's immune system. Also, if you are induced you have a higher chance for a c-section. My first C was a breeze. My second made me realize what the meaning of "major surgery" was! While I was pretty much back to my old self by six weeks I've known women who weren't. I also know that I was much more tired at six weeks this time than I was with my first. The extra healing time for my body really taxed me for a couple of months. I wouldn't have been up to a WDW trip in the heat, that's for sure!

Good luck with your new baby!

I wouldn't take a new baby because I wouldn't want to deal with it. Too much for me. :)

My children both travelled as infants and they were perfectly glorious trips. I think it depends on your family/infant and not the age of the infant. If everything is ok, I say go for it.

For me it would be too soon. All I remember my babies doing for the first 6 weeks is nursing, pooping, crying and nursing. With my last DS I had to have a C-Section so there was no way I would have been able to do Disney 6 weeks PP. The heat is also a factor and the whole crowds, germs thing. But it is a personal decision so if you feel you will be up to it, go ahead and enjoy the trip.

I've done it with DD#1 but she was the perfect baby, IMHO. Slept through the night from the first night home, no colic, etc. There's no way I would've done it with my other 3! That trip was a spur of the moment trip as well--in your case, it sounds like there's too many other things riding on it all, so I'd probably postpone it to a later date.

Personally, no. There have been a lot of cases of pertussis and mumps lately and a 6week old baby does not have the immunity or the immunizations to guard against it. Ask you doc what he/she thinks, but I know the peds I work with would advise against it.

I think it's time to start working harder on hubby concerning that an early December trip. I understand about husbands who want a really good deal before they'll agree to things, because mine is the same way, but you're talking about a really special set of circumstances here. I agree with everybody who's advised against the October trip, and for all the excellent reasons they gave - with so many risk factors involved, I think the chances of you having a crummy trip, possibly even a nightmare trip, are way higher than the chances that everything would go smoothly.

On the other hand, the December trip sounds much more reasonable. It sounds like this may be your last chance for a while, so if I were you, I'd try to convince him. There are lots of ways to save money on food at WDW, and maybe you could get him excited about the "challenge" of creating a fun budget trip. :rotfl2: There are also lots of ways to bring husbands around ;) , so work your ways, girl!

Obviously everyone's situation is different. I don't think you should make your decision based upon message board postings....do what is best for your family and situation. If you do choose to go there are many a great tip here on traveling with an infant.

We took DD at 4 weeks for a quick weekend trip in March....we had a cold day, a hot day and a rainy day. 3 different extremes!! Especially in March. But she was great....of course we don't have to deal with flying or real "travel" if we did it might be a whole other story. But DD was great...we even went to a couple Braves games. She was either in her carrier/stroller, Baby Bjorn or being held. We brought the OW tabletop swing and she slept perfect in that. She was a very easy going baby and we are very lucky. We did stop in the baby care centers....they are nice to have around.

As far as me....I had an emergency C - not something expected at all but I was fine to walk and get around the parks. Now I don't do "commando" type touring anyway but we did "hit" MK for almost all of Fantasyland and then just took the rest of the trip easy paced and doing/seeing what we wanted.

Sept/Oct has been pretty darn hot the past couple years but with a sunshade and a big hat the baby will be fine. Make sure to have plenty of fluids on hand for everyone but especially the baby.

Good luck with whatever you decide and the rest of your pregnancy!

I would have two big concerns. The first is that induction, although usually fine, does carry an increase risk of C-section, so there is a greater risk of that to consider. I've never had a C-section to know how long that recovery is, which of course varies person by person.

Normally at 6 weeks I would have been to go and I was always one to bring my babies out early, so that alone wouldn't bother me. However, my DH and I were there a couple years the end of September and it was HOT. It was just the 2 of us that trip and we live in a place that gets hot and we were exhausted from the heat in the middle of everyday, to the point of it really wearing us out. That's not good for a newborn baby who is not able to regulate it's temperature.

Also, what if the dr determines at the end that inducing isn't right for the baby? There seems to be too many "what ifs?".

Not to mention that they crowds will be worse and since you'll have to pay a non-discounted rate for the room you won't be saving as much as it seems. How about going sometimes during value season and getting a discounted room. You won't have the free dining, but you'll be saving on your room. Saving money is saving money, no matter how you do it.

Of course going to WDW is always spending $, no matter how you do it! :rotfl:

Based on the fact you plan to induce and you have to heal, your baby is so young and issues that surround having a newborn, and your dh is going to be laid off - no, I wouldn't advise you to go. Like you stated you have to do what is best for baby... and I also say you have to do what is best for you.

I would go now or wait. WDW will always be there... :wizard: GL in your decision!

I couldn't do it. I would be worried about the baby being too hot, germs, and hurricanes!
I have to have my own bed, my supplies, and pediatrician close by.

Haven't read the other responses, but would you take a 4 week old? Would that make a difference to you? My doctor also wanted to induce my second 2 weeks because my first baby was big. However, this was ONLY if I was showing signs of being ready (ie dilated and effaced some). I did not show any signs of this until week 39, thus my doctor would not let me induce early.

I would think it depends on how flexible you are. You aren't going to know until the baby gets here what kind of needs the baby has. If you are flexible and willing to change plans to meet the babies needs, I say go for it. We live in FL, and my son had been to his first amusement park around that age (Sea World). Just make sure to bring lots of sunscreen, and keep the baby hydrated like you would the rest of your family.

As far as hurricanes go, it's not pleasant to have one occur during your trip whether or not you have an infant with you. And if everyone scheduled their trips around the possibility of a hurricane, WDW would be closed 6 months out of the year.

:) LOL, I was joking (sort of.)

I didn't get through all the replies yet, but wanted to add that for the first month or 2 of life, the increase in cabin pressure can be like climbing a mountain -- with changes in oxygenation...without the fully-developed ability to acclimate. This can be taxing on newborn lungs.

If you are driving, watch that the carseat supports the baby well. Many newborns are slumped in infant carseats. We usually had an adult ride in back and support the baby a little more.

I personally would skip the trip. With my 4th, 5 1/2 weeks after she was born, I ended up in the ER. I was completely out of it, my temp was over 104, and my heart was racing. Turns out I had developed "childbirth fever." I was on modified bedrest for a week, then got worse so was on strict bedrest for another week. There had been a slight complication during her delivery, which led to some hemorrhaging, but I was recovering very well for 5 weeks when I got really sick.

Congrats on your baby-to-be. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well, and everyone stays healthy and happy.

My youngest was 5 weeks old when we took our last trip to WDW. We didn't intend to - but the vacation was planned before I knew I was pregnant, and I just couldn't see myself telling my older two that they couldn't go to Disney World because of their new baby sister.

In the end, it was, quite honestly, one of the best family vacations we've had!

We drove, which was nice, because we could take our own car to the parks and not have to worry about dragging a stroller and giant diaper bag on the buses. Sometimes one adult would take the baby and her gear, while the other one rode with the kids on the monorail or bus.

It was early December, so I wasn't worried about excessive heat or sun, and was able to carry the baby in a sling throughout the parks, occasionally putting her in the stroller when I wanted a break.

We stayed at AKL, and the room had plenty of space for all five of us, including the portable crib, which Disney supplied.

I don't remember if she was sleeping through the night yet - she might have been, but honestly, with three kids, I don't think I've had a completely uninterrupted sleep in a decade. Someone is always having a bad dream, or can't reach the bathroom light switch or something.

I will say, my daughter was an easy baby - she wasn't colicky, she would sleep and eat under any circumstances. She did cry every now and then, but was never inconsolable. With a less easygoing baby, the trip could have been a nightmare. And, I had an easy, uncomplicated delivery, so I felt fine myself, and was actually eager to walk around the parks and get some exercise.

However - we did have alternate plans in place if we felt that the baby wasn't up to the trip. Because we were driving, not flying, and because we weren't buying our park tickets until we got to Florida, it would have been no financial loss for the baby and I to stay home. Another possibility was my mom stepping in to take the baby for a week, while I went on the trip.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I think it's a wait and see kind of situation.

Frankly, vacation planning, having a baby and prospective job loss are all very stressful situations and you have to concentrate on having a healthy baby and nothing else.

My first son only lived 3 days, my second son was in NICU for 2 days then had a home health nurse visit for the first two weeks of his life. Both situations I was told happened one out of 1,000 births and it happened in 100% of my births.

My job took me to 6 Flags when my son was 8 weeks old, he stayed home with the babysitter but I was completely dehydrated and worn out from the trip. Look out for yourself, too.

I agree with the others, WDW will ALWAYS be there. I waited until my son was 6 to go to Orlando for the first time and we've been 33 times since and he's now 13. Life goes on... take advantage of the important stuff.

God bless and my prayers to you to have a healthy baby...
