Would you switch from Verizon Fios to Comcast?

I had Comcast for over 13 years. Every year, the price would go up, I would call, they would put me in a new package, my increase would be about $5.00 per month or less.

3 Years ago, they raised me, I called & the best they could do for me was $40.00 per month more than I was paying. I was told it was called a "promotional price" for a reason & didn't I understand the price would go up when the promo ended, and also that they would be happy to disconnect my service if I didn't like it. Needless to say, with that attitude I switched to Fios.

My Fios triple play bill was $182.00 per month. I called recently to see about lowering it & was given a $20.00 per month discount for the next year, no new contract, so I am free to switch if I want.

Yesterday a Comcast rep rang my bell & offered me the same package I have now, plus a DVR (which I don't have) and an additional box for my daughter's room, for $135.00 per month, plus tax, approximately $145.00 per month total, $17.00 per month less than I am paying now, with a 2 year contract & a $100.00 credit for switching.

I like the TV & phone quality with fios, not impressed with their internet service, but it works. Debating on whether to make the switch. The savings would be $304 the first year (with the $100.00 credit) and $444 the second year, if Fios increases my price back to where it was before the $20.00 per month discount.

I hate to go back to a company that treated me so badly, but I am all for saving money. Based on the above experience, and any personal experience....would you switch??

Is pining one company against the other switching, carriers & renegotiating the only way to keep the costs down??

I already set up a gmail account so as not to have to worry about losing my email address if I do opt to switch carriers every few years.

I would call Verizon and let them know that you are considering the switch. Give them the opportunity to meet Comcast's pricing. If they can't or won't, then go ahead and switch.

I had Comcast for years but their internet service was horrible! We had to reset the router at least once a week. And it was so slow during peak periods like after the high school kids in the neighborhood got home. The FIOS internet has been so much better. It is the only reason that I stay with Verizon. Their customer service is serverely lacking and the price is not better than what Comcast was. Verizon nickles and dimes you on every addon like extra digital converters.

I already called Verizon, they cannot or will not match the price or give me the DVR free for longer than 3 months. The price comcast gave me was based on all my boxes & DVR being free for 2 years.

The internet problems you mention are all the same problems I had when I switched from comcast to verizon. The internet service seems to have improved a bit, but I can't say it is better than what I had with comcast.

We have Comcast, service is actually great, but I'd switch in a heartbeat. Their customer service is awful and I just can't stand the constant price gouging.

We switched from Comcast to Verizon about 4 or 5yrs ago and saved a TON of $$.

Originally had ONE cable box (no premium channels, HD, or DVR) and internet w/ Comcast.

Switched to Verizon and received TWO cable boxes w/ internet for $20 less per month.

A couple years later upped to THREE cable boxes w/ one a DVR box & internet...same price because they bundled it differently.

About a year ago we upped one of the cable boxes to HD for $10 more a month with increased internet speeds.

We are still paying $10 less than we did w/ Comcast and have WAY more than we did then.

Our customer service w/ Verizon has been first rate and anytime we've had an issue (only once or twice) they have been extremely helpful and responded quickly to fix the problem.

You may noticed I never mentioned phone... we use Vonage instead of linking our phone to our cable/internet. It is one steady price and we've had an excellent experience w/ them for about the last 6 or 7 years or so.

I just switched from Comcast to Verizon and it has been nothing but trouble so far (in terms of billing, the internet service works fine). Verizon Fios just started service in our city so I called them and said 'the prices on your website are higher than Comcast's... can you give me a reason to switch?' They gave me a reasonable price and I was told there were NO additional fees (I asked 3 times about modem rentals and installation fees which I was told were waived). The first bill came and it was double what they told me it would be (w/ installation/modem fees on it). I have made about 7 calls to them (and dealt with a few very rude representatives who would tell me they were taking something off my bill and then the next time I call they say there's no record I called in the past). It has been frustrating and if the problems continue I will not hesitate to switch back to Comcast. Honestly, I think the problems with both companies are probably about the same, so I would go with the cheaper price.

My friend had Comcast and had issues with her phone service constantly. She cancelled and went to Fios before her contract was up with Comcast.
I don't have the option for Fios, soooo wish I did!!!

You mentioned you have the triple play package with fios. That is the phone, internet and cable, right? Do you pay for additional channels? Do you have the ultimate package, or extreme? Maybe if you dropped down to the medium grade then your bill would lower even more.

I just switched from my cable company to Fios. So far, I love it. I haven't had any problems, knock on wood. My local cable company...the internet would work for 2 days then be out for 5 days then work 1 day and be out for 7 days:mad:
I like the fact of no contract. I pay $146, that is for the middle package ($99 per month), with the internet and I also have the digital box in the living room, 2 additional dvr boxes and and two regular boxes in the other rooms.

We have HBO, Showtime & Cinemax. When I called to reduce my bill, I would have saved $23.00 per month if I dropped them. They dropped me $20.00 for a year to keep the service the same.

Basically, even if I drop all the movie channels & would be paying more for less channels than Comcast is offering.

The Comcast offer is for phone, internet & TV. With a DVR (which I don't have now) 1 HD box, 3 regular boxes, one basic box (for DD's room). HBO, Showtime & Cinemax, and their channel lineup includes Encore & sundance, which we don't have now.

If I don't take showtime & cinemax, I would be paying $115.00 per month & still have HBO.

I switched from Comcast to AT&T Uverse and wouldn't think of switching back. I had a horrible time with Comcast.

If you really want to switch, make sure you get in writing what the Comcast rep offered you before you switch. I did have an experience with Comcast where a rep told me one price over the phone, but when I got my bill, it was quite a bit higher. I don't trust them.

Call verizon and ask for the customer retention department. Tell them what you have as an offer form Comcast and ask them to match it. If they cannot then make the switch.

I wouldn't change from rabbit ears to Comcast.

Agree! Comcast is horrible, I mean, it's so bad they're going by a new name (xfinity).

:lmao:

I can't stand Comcast. But, in my area, they are the only non-dial-up service. Oddly enough my son's school in my neighborhood has Verizon. I can tell you that the service there is always out (I'm in the school as a volunteer 1 to 2 days a week). After seeing the service this school year, I'm glad I have Comcast. Something I NEVER thought I'd say.

If Verizon won't match the Comcast price, switch back to Comcast.

Don't let a school's service provider influence your home purchase, I work in a school and the issues have more to do with inadequate servers in the building or tech upgrades that went wrong.
