Would you support the idea...

I don't have a problem with adults only areas at Disney. However, Chuck is right that the booking issues this would create make it not a great idea for a timeshare.

I think a true quiet pool would be great. As far as rooms go I have never had any problems in DVC rooms. Now on the occasions when we stay at the POP or a mod I request top floor end room. :thumbsup2

Add me to the list of people who are NOT in favor of this. I agree that it will be a reservation nightmare -- and isn't it tough enough sometimes to get the type of accomodation you want?

I don't think the problem lies at the resort buildings, but rather at the pools. Having just spent time at the BLT chaotic, ridiculous pool, of which I could not WAIT to get out of (kids 2 inches away, every turn I took) and I won't even talk about the jacuzzi there, adult time would have been heaven. I also couldn't wait to transfer over to BCV,s to get into SAB because there are so many places you can be alone in that giant pool. DCL planned it right, their adult pool is awesome. I wish they could do the same at the resorts somehow.

I honestly can't say that I would favor an adult only villa section at a WDW resort. While my children are pretty much grown and DW and I are starting to make trips as a couple, I just don't see the benefit for this. Just my opinion, but as has been noted many issues are not the sole territory of children.

I'd be interested though to hear what age we would be talking about? 10 years old? 16? 21? What age would be the cut off if an adults-only section were created?

I would enjoy the inevitable ensuing threads titled "I saw kids staying in an adults-only section villa". :)

I guess I'd have to disagree. Lots of our trips are just the two of us but I still enjoy seeing other people with their kids having a good time at Disney...even when they're having meltdowns, because then I can think, glad it's not me! What would Disney be without kids after all??? We don't use the pools much, either, so the adults only thing there wouldn't appeal to me. However, "adults only" after 9 p.m. or something like that might be nice...but then again hopefully most of the parents have rounded up the kids by then anyway.:)

I think having the option of enjoying an adults only anything from time to time would be great. :thumbsup2

Nope. Most of the poblems I have seen at the pool have been adults not kids.

I have to agree with that. The only problems we've had at pool areas have been with adults who have had too much to drink.

Disney and kids go together. It's just part of the magic, and you take the good times with the bad (laughter and meltdowns).

If we want an adult only vacation, we take a non-Disney cruise during the school year.

I agree. We don't have kids and we're in our 50's, but I like seeing kids at Disney. Even some of the meltdowns can be hilarious when you aren't directly involved.

I would not support it. Kids are part of what makes this whole thing work so well. Kids are the center point.
My 2 Cents

I imagine those with children would agree with this statement. :goodvibes

As a couple who chose not to have any, I would love the option of a child-free portion of DVC.

Completely agree with Chuck with the room part of the suggestion. I think that's a bad thing.

But as a mom I could agree with adults only area, don't mind that at all.

We have a 6, 4 and 2 year old that are our whole world. However, the thought of a "child free" zone does sound nice!! I think legallity/booking issues would keep it from happening to exisitng DVCs, but one in the future and at new resort could work and I don't have any problem with it.

I love the thought of "child free" eating at Signature Restaurants, but I don't think this will ever happen ... how could Disney charge a 10 year old for an "adult" dining plan but then not allow him or her to eat during the "adult only" hours?

In thinking more about this..... I CAN see making some places and times adults only. Like maybe hot tubs and restaurants, but I really doubt that is going to happen. I really don't think you can make an adults only booking catagory though.

My original thought was "no way", but some of the suggestions have swayed me on that in the above mentioned areas. Maybe not an adults only pool, but maybe TIMES that are adults only. Of course, those kinds of "rules" are always broken, so what is the point, really? Just witness the number of people who don't obey the signs about small children in the hot tub or not drinking in the hot tubs.

Last week and the week before at the South Point Pool at OKW, we had more problems with adults than kids. Smoking cigars at the pool. Bringing glass beer bottles to the pool in coolers. Tossing multiple balls across the pool from one set of adults to another set of adults. Partying late at night with music and booze. Leaving towels and garbage on the tables. Totally inconsiderate of the other guests at the pool.

There is a small play ground at this pool and the kids playing there were fine. The kids in the pools were fine.

The problems were always with the adults.

So maybe I should request a kids only pool that would allow me access. ;)

I'm not initially opposed to the idea but I just don't see it happening for many of the reasons described by prior posters.

I think the OP's idea was an adult section of SSR only. Obviously blocking off an adult section for other smaller resorts would be a nightmare, but SSR? From what I've gathered is it is huge and undersubscribed. So would making an adult only section of SSR (and SSR only) be such a trouble? I think at SSR it could work, no problem.

Personally, while I would like to be away from kids, I would select an area based on distance to amenities and view before choosing based on the number of kids in the area.

But I doubt it would be legal, as it would restrict the usage of those buildings, and points in those building surely have been sold to some people with young children. Remember, our points represent, legally, a true real estate interest. How can they say you may not have access to a building where you own deeded points?
