Would you support a point "tax" for staying at other resorts?

NO! I own at VWL, already one of the smallest if not THE smallest resorts. So if I don't get my poopoo together, and try to book at the 6 month window, and there is nothing available, you want to hit me with a penaltly to stay at BWV??? That's why they have the booking windows? I honestly do not see the logic in your proposal. So what about the people that pay cash to stay at the resorts 12 months out?? Should they get hit also?

I understand where you're coming from. Of course, some folks may feel that they didn't sign up for being unable to book their home resort without meticulous planning because all the rooms are snapped up at seven months, when at one time that wasn't the case. Obviously their quality of life has gone down.

I don't think this affects the quality at all. You have a 4 month window to book your home resort. That's one of the reasons many people encourage purchasers to buy where they want to stay.
Of course some resorts are more popular during particular times of the year, ex: WLV's @ Christmas time and unfortunately if you own there and that is where you wish to stay at Xmas, you have to book at 11 months.

Not sure how taxing people will do any thing but cause a lot of angry people.

Uhh, NO! Bottom line, I bought at my home resort to stay there. If I decide to change at 7 months, IMO I take my chances trying to get a ressie. If I want home resort priority at other places, I'll buy there!

Calling it a "tax" is automatically going to irk people.
I read (or heard) an article about the "bailout" People already had their
hackles up because "bailout" is a negative term, which showed no value for the people doing the bailing.
"Consumer Rescue and Recovery" was the term suggested to lessen the
sting of the plan.
Tax, especially in this economic climate, is a bad word.

I think we all can agree that we want to facilitate people being able to stay at their home resorts, even without meticulous planning. A "tax" doesn't seem to be a popular idea. Maybe they could change it from an 11-7 window to an 11-4 window. That would help everyone.

It's sounding to me like you don't want to plan more than 4 months out so you're really only looking to help yourself not the rest of us...and that is just simply NOT how the DVC system was designed. We purchased DVC for the flexibility of staying at different resorts each time if we so wish and we fully understand that waiting beyond 7 months to book for a trip may leave us out in the cold for our 1st or 2nd or even 3rd choice. We do not typically travel at the highest peak periods because of the point requirements and airfare prices...but we DO usually vacation in the summer which is a high enough demand on points. We did not purchase DVC for last minute trips and I have no intentions of waiting until 4 months out to plan a trip! (But then again, I am Anal Annie, professional planner extraordinare!)

We know we want to go in mid-August next year but I don't know yet who else is going with us or where we want to stay...so I am not booking until after the first of the year when the 7 month window opens. WE don't mind planning ahead, it's the rest of the family in this shaky economy that's the holdup. But I have put the word out to them that I am not waiting past the 7 month window and they have to decide yes or no after the holidays. I am just fine with planning at 7 months thank you very much!

I think your "proposal" is absurd and would benefit very few. So, NO!

We have now evacuated from hurricanes twice to WDW. First on cash, last month on points. Our trips were not booked until 24 hours out due to storm unpredictability, but we're realistic enough people to take the attitude, "Let's see what's available." And you know what, it wasn't our home resort!

We hope we never have to evacuate, and I'd like to save my points for my planned (at least 11 months in advance) vacations; but if I do take a last minute trip, I'm perfectly willing to understand that the thousands of DVC members that have had a number of months to book may have used up all the inventory at my home resort.

I realize that some DVC'rs have had issues booking @ the 12month mark, perhaps around the very popular dates like NYE, but other than HH, I havn't. I've never had problems at the 7 months window and much less at the 12. I book last minute all the time, I booked 3 weeks ago for Oct 16-19, nothing at OKW so I went to AKV. My quality of life is understurbed, maybe my point balance is a little disturbed but all in all I got the time that I wanted and really any resort would have been o.k. Should I be penalized by a tax for a last minute wish to see the World, no.

Many DVC'rs say & think that going outside of the resorts is not a smart use of points, I agree but every once in a while I liked going to the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian and now it costs me points and an additional $95. It wasn't like that when I bought in but now it is. They changed the rules, and appararently they can.

Please, let's not give them any more ideas that will affect my pocket.

No, you're not! The only guarantee is that IF there is availability, you may book. There are plenty of stories on this board about people calling at the 11 month mark and there being nothing available. Not just that what they WANT is not available (AKV Club/Concierge, for example), but that NOTHING at all is available at their home resort. Yes, this is usually for a holiday period, but it does happen.

If you plan your trips to be in WDW during the busy seasons, summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. you are sure to have problems. Keep in mind that anyone should always keep up with what date is 11 months from the day you wish to check in. Call MS at 8:59am ET on the date that is 11 months out and you can get the "World" with no restraints.
I have called on that date every time and have been told "We are wide open for any room in your home resort" and have had no trouble getting what we want. I have also called back 7 months out and have had no trouble getting my reservation changed to OKW which is where we try to stay each time.
You simply must do a little do-diligence and it will always pay off. We all paid out lots of cash to be a DVC Member but it isn’t a guarantee to have what you want when you want it. However it is without a doubt the best timeshare program in the world.

My home resort is BWV. It wouldn't bother me at all if they made it harder in some way for me to book at other resorts, and also made it harder for others to book at BWV.

I think the OP's "idea!" is quite self serving. Sounds like someone couldn't book BWV for an upcoming trip and doesn't like to stay anywhere else. Don't forget, there's always CRO with the DVC discount to fall back on.

No tax or fee to go to other DVC resorts. One of my home resorts is VWL. If the chance came along for a last minute trip, I doubt I would get VWL then I would have to pay extra. No thanks. Most of our bookings are done from 11 months to 7 months.

I wouldn't care if they called it a "Tax" or a "Non-Home Resort Processing Premium." My thoughts would be the same...Nickel & Dime and dissatisfaction. And I have never stayed anywhere but my home resort on points since 1992, so it is doubtful it would affect me. Do other timeshare "families" like Marriott or Hilton charge in-system exchange fees?

When we took the tour and did all our research about DVC we knew that if we planned our trips well in advance this was for us.
I've been told that I am a Disney nut because I plan my next trip before I take my first trip. So DVC is for me!

We will be planing our trips at 11 months and if we decide to switch at 7 months great if we can if not we have our "home".

If at less than 7 months we decide to take a quick trip we'll be fine with any resort we just wanna be in WDW!!!!
