Would you spontaneously take your family to WDW for $1800 for Christmas?

Never. The weeks between Christmas and New Year's are No Gos for us, ever. I wouldn't subject myself to those crowds if Disney paid ME $1800 to go.
Bwa! I'll file this in the same location!!

On a related tangent, how the heck can you quote multiple posts?? Can it be done thru the app??

I would do it. If I waited till I thought I could afford it. It would never happen kind of like saying one will have kids when the time is right. No one ever thinks its a perfect time. There is always something else you can do more responsible no joke.

I priced out a trip last night that would included leaving on Christmas Day and staying through Sunday. Three day park pass. We would drive - 6 hours.

HS, MK, and Epcot.

Without food it was about $1800.

Would you do it?

We JUST went in September.

It would totally go on a credit card and get paid back with taxes! Hmmmm.

Of course, it would not be the "responsible" thing to do. :santa:

WOULDN'T do it, NO Interest in battling crowds.. Save your money for a less CROWDED Time if year!

No I would not do it if I did not have $1800 cash to pay in full. Also factor in extras that many happen. Urgent care, meds, clothes ,extra food cost, possible car repairs I would not do it.

Not in a million years. I had to take some family who could only visit during a higher season once. It was miserable. Crowded and waiting (even with FP's) was un-fun.

But that's just me. I have been a lot, can go during low season and do not worry about school breaks (though taking a child out of school for a week once every 3-4 years doesn't sound horrible).

If I could only go during breaks or summer, had few and far between opportunities to go, and hadn't been in a while I would do it. Just go knowing you might be waiting for or skipping your favorite things, and just take it by ear (pun intended)

This makes me think of when car brochures begin arriving in my mailbox. Once my hubs starts requesting them, he buys one. Even though he's always "just checking out the new models." ;)

I am up there with the biggest Disney fans on the planet, and I am also not responsible with my money, but even I would say NO to this.

Biggest reason? CROWDS!

You can go a few weeks later in January and have a much better experience. Maybe give a January trip to your family as a Christmas gift?

I think $1800 with more planning and at a less crowded time could get you a much better and LONGER vacation. That is a lot of money for just lodging and tickets for 3 days.

This! We just booked a trip for our family of 3. in February for 6 days, with deluxe dining plan and hoppers, $2300. You could totally take the $1800 and put it towards a longer trip at a different time. :)

Thanks everyone! :flower3:

I think that what interested me was the idea of surprising the kids and hopping in the car and driving down, checking in, heading to HS for Osborne Lights and the Frozen Premium package - which was available!

Then doing Epcot with a Candlelight Processional late lunch and finishing off the last day with Magic Kingdom, the parade, the icy castle...and dinner at 1900 Park Fare - which was also available!

We went during a crowd level 4-5, so I truly don't know what it really means to be super crowded.

However, you are all correct! A future trip is in the works!

Beside the "quote" button, there is another button that looks kind of like this "+ (quote marks with a plus sign on top of a piece of paper). Press it for each post you'd like to quote. It will turn red/orange and the + will turn to a - to show you've selected it. When you've selected all that you want, hit "Post Reply" and you'll get a message post box with all your selected posts quoted.

I'm with some of the others - the cost and spontaneity isn't an issue, but I wouldn't go to WDW during that time period.

meh. 1800 isn't that cheap IMHO to bother with putting it on credit and rushing back.... I'd wait till later next year sometime and plan a longer trip at a better priced les crowded time. just my 2 cents.:thumbsup2

It is the temptation! I am in sales...I always joke that sales people are the biggest suckers when it comes to "buy it now!" or upgrades, etc. Leather interior! Yes! Sun roof! Yes! Navigation. Ohhh....yes, please!

When Groupon and LivingSocial first came out - shut the front door! :rotfl:

If you have the $1800 to afford and it's not going to impact future trips, I would say yes.

When I see threads like this, I wonder how many people who offer opinions on Christmas crowds have actually been at WDW at Christmas. Don't get me wrong, the crowds are like no other times, but it is still WDW!!! We have done multiple Christmas trips and have had a great time. You just have to plan smart.

I totally agree with this!! We have gone Christmas week, Easter week, and 4th of July. I love the holiday time with all the decorations and seeing the Osborne lights!!

Since you were just there, you wouldn't have to worry about going on everything and you don't have to go to a park each day. It sounds like your plan was going to work out for you. And there are so many other things to do around 'the world', like the campfire with Chip and Dale, etc.

Btw, one year we went in the week between Christmas and NY, and it was less crowded and warmer than the year we went on spring break at Easter.

But it sounds like you made other great plans! Enjoy!

:wizard: I'm going for the holidays this year, but I wouldn't normally recommend it - it's just tooooo crowded to do anything. It's much more fun to wait till the parks are empty-ish!
