Would you share with a stranger?

If a couple you don't know asked you to share their Kitchen Sink would you:

  • Say YES without hesitation and dig in.

  • Say YES, but insist on divying it out into separate bowls.

  • Say Yes, but insist on paying for half

  • Say NO, but thanks anyway.

  • Say NO and point out how disgusting that is.

  • Give them a funny look and walk away without answering.

Would you share a Kitchen Sink with strangers?

I voted yes-but separate bowls. Because I'm sharing with strangers.

I do share food with a number of friends, however, so if I was with them we would probably all eat out of the same bowl as we frequently sample each other's lunches at work. Yeah, bad, I know. . .:sad2:

I would have no problem with eating off the new garbage can lid or the new toilet bowl. On April 1st I often walk down the hall at work drinking apple juice from a specimen (clean) cup just to watch the faces of those who think I'm drinking urine.

I will gladly accept your tickets.

Despite me starting this thread, I would still feel a little weird sharing ice cream with strangers, but I guess my generosity overshadows my paranoia. Just seems like such a waste.

I think, in general, our society has become reluctant to accept things from strangers - whether it's ice cream or something else.

Last year DD got sick right before we went to LaNouba, so we had an extra ticket. We tried giving it away for like 30 minutes, but people just gave us funny looks like were were gonna throw them in the back of our van and drive them out to the everglades.
Sharing with the ice cream in individual bowls (even with a stranger) why not, I would do it make friends and each ice cream what could be better.

is ypsilanti (sp?) anywhere near brighton? if so, i might just look ya up when i go out to visit friends (no dates planned yet)...

oh, and if you decide to extend your trip a few days, we'll be at CSR on 2/19... wait for us (preferably w/ice cream!) ;)

I haven't read all the responses on this guy, but I'm voting "Eww!"

Yes, in a buffet you're sharing with others, but I tend to pick from the far back of the dish (where smaller kids and fewer guests may have picked at the food), and use hand sanitizer when I get back to the table (to get rid of the "handle germs"). As far as sharing from the immediate same bowl of ice cream... even less good can come from that IMO.

Maybe if it were immediately divided by whomever is serving the thing into seperate dishes, but if I don't personally know the people I'm sharing with, I don't know their hygenic habits or if they'd been sick recently (or have an ongoing illness, at that). Especially with the recent "Norway bug" that was down there recently... No. Nuh uh, no way.

lol, I was actually shocked with the results after I voted Yes, as long as we had separate bowls. I thought there would be more votes on Yes than No. Come on people! Its ice cream! :cool1: :p

Ypsi is about 30 minutes south of you near Ann Arbor.

Wish we could afford to stay another week, but the trip is breaking us as it is.

Someone mentioned the seating at Teppen Edo, and I just wanted to say that all Japanese Steakhouses I have been to have those tables of 8. My family of 3 is usually seated with another family. It's just the way they do it, and we usually chat just a little bit with the other family.

When we were on the Disney Wonder, we sat at a table for 8 each dinner with a honeymooning couple and another single mom with 2 kids. I enjoyed sharing our adventures each night, but I know from the cruise board that some people hate sitting with anyone but their family.

I don't even buy stuff out of the "bulk" sections at the grocery stores, so double dipping is of course a no no. DH and I shared one of the kitchen sinks (with our 2 chn once) but by and far he's from the theory, if you want one order one for yourself. He rarely shares a dessert, let alone share with a stranger... even if you were to put them in separate bowls prior to eating..... So, thanks but no thanks for the generocity (sp)

I wouldn't have a problem sharing as long as separate bowls were involved.

However, I would say no thank you b/c the kitchen sink grosses me out. We watched DH eat one all by himself and it was just gross :scared: I also can't seem to eat ice cream when it's hot out. I'm weird, I know.

ALL BY HIMSELF?? Uggghhh...

I was thinking they should have a contest... eat the whole Kitchen Sink by yourslef in 30 mins and it's free... There is a steak restaurant chain here in Toronto that does that... I think it's a 72 oz. steak... Eat it all in an hour with the fixins and it's free.

It would certianly increase sales (for those that don't finish and have to pay)... and would also make for some great youtube moments.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I don't think that's weird. I can do Sherbets or fruit juice bars, but I can't eat aything that's hugely dairy when it's hot. My stomach makes it really grody to digest.

I'm pretty much the same way. When it's hot I like popcycles, shave ice, things like that. Dairy makes me really thirsty and sick whenit's hot.

We are planning a lunch at B&C on March 12th, we would have been happy to take pics of the kitchen sink and then divide it into seperate bowls and split the bill with you! Nothing gross about dividing it up!

Oh my gosh! I'm glad to hear I am not alone with this ice cream thing. People always look at me like I am crazy.

Yep, DH didn't eat dinner and got the kitchen sink. He kept picking all the cake and cookie stuff out of it though. He didn't finish it but came pretty close.

I'd have no problem sharing as long as it is seperated into bowls. I would have to find people that also don't like mint as I wouldn't get mint ice cream in the one I order.

On my last trip, I gave away ribs and mashed potatoes (gave it extra, as I ordered fries) from one of the meals and part of a Kosher meal (I ordered chicken strips and french fries) that had potato balls and something Mexican. Some people did look at me funny when I was offering it. But I just couldn't waste food that we didn't touch. I had so much extra as they made mistakes when I ordered it.

Even if you ate out of the same bowl, it's only dangerous if one of the people is sick. People thinking it's disgusting falls into the same reasoning behind not eating off a brand new trash can lid or eating out of a factory fresh toilet.

Eating out of the same bowl as a stranger is not potentially dangerous? How would you know if they are or are not sick? How would you know they don't have hepatitis, or some other communicable disease? Blood-borne pathogens are nothing to take lightly.

Put me down in the column that thinks it's disgusting and rather odd. If someone couldn't afford the kitchen sink without having to share it with strangers, perhaps they should order one of the plenty of other good single serving sundaes available.

Did you not read the part of my post that you quoted? I said "unless one of the people is sick". I find your lack of faith in people disturbing as well. Clearly someone with Hepatitis would be reluctant to offer to share food with people.

It has nothing to do with being able to "afford" it. It has to do with being able to eat the whole thing. The Kitchen Sink is a Disney milestone. And ordering a smaller sundae wouldn't be the same. It's a matter of bragging rights and being able to say, "Remember that time we had the kitchen sink? It was so huge we had to recruit people to help finish it! Wasn't that a blast?" If you'd rather look back at Disney and say, "Remember that time we went to Beaches and Cream and didn't get the Kitchen Sink because we were to afraid of the other guest's germs?" Well, that's your choice.

I like my story better ::yes::

I have only skimmed this thread, but did vote "No. Thank you."

I hate, hate, hate waste. I am the crazy mom in the neighborhood who will walk or drive a kid his bottle of juice/gatoraide/whatever I gave him, of which he only took one drink before leaving my home.
That said, I would not share food with strangers. No. I'm sorry, but no. And I've had the KS. It was lots of stale, cookie product topping, with good ice cream, loads of whipped cream, and enough fanfare to make one blush. Scrape off the crappy parts and call it a day, IMHO.
