We have a room-only reservation @ POFQ for a few days prior to free DDP and I started thinking we might be better off having the larger room/queen beds @ SOG instead (2 adults, 2 teens). If it was you, would you change? Also, this would mean no DME on the way in, so we'd have to rent a car or pay for transfers. Our nightly rate @ POFQ is $97.88 vs. $103.00 @ SOG. Is the added expense worth the comfort?

If it means having to pack up and move from SOG to POFQ versus just remaining at POFQ for the entire time, I'd definitely stay put. To me, packing and moving during a vacation is a waste of time (although I know folks do enjoy split stays...its just not for me)

Does POFQ include taxes? Usually you have to add that on top of your quote. SOG does not charge tax. That may be enough to offset the transfer costs involved? I think we paid about $100 to get to and from the airport when we went last Christmas.

I loved being able to walk to the monorail for everything MK and Epcot from SOG. The Poly is across the long driveway and a street and I thought walking to the TTC was not that bad too as it was just past the POLY.

With SOG you get 2 queen beds and a pull out couch. (Its not huge) But this would give the kids seperate beds.

Thanks -- I forgot about the pull-out couch. We will actually have to move anyway for the second half of our stay. My nightly rate @ POFQ includes tax...in this case, SOG is about $5 higher per night. So really, the price difference would be a few extra dollars per night plus whatever mode of transportation we use to get to the resort...and of course, there would be parking charges if we rent a car and decide to keep it a couple of days (actually I have a feeling if we opt for a rental car, I will probably keep it until we change resorts so we can just move the luggage ourselves instead of wondering when it will show up using bell services).

I don't know what it is about this upcoming trip -- I just can't seem to leave it alone. I just want to tweek, tweek, tweek! I think it's because my family has begun experiencing a little bit of Disney burnout and I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that we might not return for a couple of years and I want everything to be "just perfect". Is that a recipe for disaster, or what? :teeth:

We just returned from SOG and decided we would only stay there from now on. We've stayed at moderate and deluxe Disney resorts and they don't compare, when you consider the cost relative to size of rooms and overall quality. Does the POFQ rate include tax? Even if it doesn't, it's a small difference. We're a family of 5 and truly appreciated having the extra elbow room. We stayed in the new section which has 2 sinks in the bathroom. This was handy in the mornings when everyone needed to get ready quickly. The restaurants are decent and reasonably priced. Mangino's is especially good. We ate some of our best meals of the trip there and it was a bargain compared to any other table service restaurant at Disney. Another thing that stood out was how peaceful and relaxing SOG was compared to other resorts. Some people miss the Disney theming, but we didn't have a problem with it, since you get a large dose every time you step into a park. As for transportation to the resort, I recommend Sunray towncar service. We got an $8.00 discount for mentioning the Mouse For Less website, so the roundtrip cost only $82, plus we got a free 30 min. stop at the Publix grocery store on the way to SOG. This helped save a lot of money on snacks and beverages. The AAFES is o.k., but stuff runs about the same cost as other hotel shops, except getting the tax break. It was $2.00 for a bottle of water, but we got a case for $3.99. Where you chose to stay is a personal decision, but for my family, SOG can't be beat. :thumbsup2

Before getting worked up over this issue, I'd look to see IF there is any availability at SOG. SOG tends to get booked way in advance! If there IS availability, then I'd definitely stay there. I'd take a much larger room any day! (POFQ is our favorite mod).

Having stayed at both SOG and POFQ, I'd pick POFQ over SOG everytime.:thumbsup2 IMHO (flamesuit on) SOG feels like an offsite hotel. If this might be your last trip for a while, I'd immerse myself in Disney.:goodvibes Stay at POFQ and enjoy yourself.:thumbsup2

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I know what you mean. I'm driving DH crazy with all my changes.:lmao:

I'd pick SOG because it's compared to a delux and for a tiny price difference I'd pick a delux over a moderate. SOG has a couple things that the moderates don't have, one of which is the large room size. With two adults and two teens, I'd imagine you need as much space as you can get.

It's a personal decision, I've stayed at SOG numerous times and would pick it over Disney values or moderates, for me and my family it's perfect. I've never felt like it was to far from being a disney resort or anything of that nature, but I guess that depends on how important a disney theme is to you.

You'll have a great time no matter where you stay, enjoy your vacation!

I had already checked availability before I started this thread and was surprised to see rooms were still available for our dates. I don't think they are completely sold out as much now that they've done the big expansion (at least not on the dates I've checked anyway).

I would pick SOG everytime! I love staying there for the big rooms, and just relaxing feel. I think it's a beautiful resort!

Holidays and summertime are the time of year that SOG sells out way in advance. The rest of the year it is pretty easy to get a room. My vote is for SOG. I know that you lack the Disney decour. But it so makes up for it in large, comfortable rooms, tax-free dining and rooms, and the buses are not near as crowded. We stayed at the once Dixie Landings for our honeymoon. It was an off time of year, but the buses were still crowded. My kids don't even want to stay anywhere else either. They have visited several other Disney resorts that my parents stay at and they still rather be at SOG.:goodvibes

We have not stayed at SOG since it was Disney Inn and before that, The Golf Resort. (Dating myself...:rotfl:) I can't speak to how the atmosphere is now.

POFQ is my favorite moderate. However, I think I would choose SOG. Great size of the rooms, nice pool, and a great rate!

Good luck with your no lose decision!

I would have to go with SOG. My DD actually refers to it as "going home".

Another time it fills up is in Oct for the golf tournament. Been there a couple of times before and during the tournament and it did get busy. Our schools fall break usually hits about that time.

Just got back from SOG and loved it! It's a beautiful resort, transportation is great, food is great, price can't be beat.

I loved having the queen beds and the fold down couch. Plus, we could see the MK fireworks from our balcony...It was great.

We were going to stay there when we go back in December...but I'm going to splurge since this is our 14th anniversary and surprise DH with the Poly, he still thinks that we're staying at SOG...he can think that until we get onsite :rotfl: :wizard:

While I usually take the attitude of "if its not REALLY Disney, I dont want anything to do with it," this is one time I will make an exception. SOG is a great resort, I stayed there earlier this year, and even though I was in the old Disney Inn portion and not a new building, it was great. Granted, I'm a golfer so staying at the courses has its benefits, but there was considerable time savings when visiting MK and Epcot due to convenience to TTC...

SOG, hands down. Easy access to MK and the TTC. Nice, big rooms.

Don't get me wrong, I love the PO resorts. But, I would stay at SOG every time if I could (FIL is retired military, so they went along our last trip, but won't always be on future trips).

I didn't vote. I just cancelled Shades in favor of Coronado Springs. I figured out that it would probably cost more to stay at Shades (at $103/night) and pay for food OOP, than to stay at CSR and get the free dining plan, plus we'd eat better on the dining plan. The space isn't a huge issue to us (2 adults, 1 child, 1 toddler) and I felt like the pros of CSR outweighed the pros of SoG. With 2 teenagers, though, I think that having the extra bed would be a huge plus. Also, you can let them stuff themselves at the breakfast buffet every morning! :)

But, I definitely look forward to staying at SoG on a future trip!

Uh-oh...looks like SOG may be pulling ahead a bit! Honestly, at this point it may be determined by whether or not we can get a decent rental car rate. The rates I've received thus far have been some of the highest I've ever been quoted!
