Would you see a transgendered doctor?

I would not go to that doctor because I would not want to place my health care in the hands of someone so confused

Well you said it better than I would. I agree with you.

So no, I wouldn't go.

No! Somebody who can't accept the sex they born with isn't someone I want in charge of my medical care.

Ummmm, transgendered people KNOW what they want...and AREN'T confused. They were just given the wrong "stuff" at birth. :)

I would have NO problems with it.

Well, you gotta admit, that is one person that gives everything they got into the subject matter they work with! :teeth: :teeth:

Hey! :duck: I know that was bad! :duck: Ouch! :duck: Stop throwing those things! :duck: I'm a moderator, not a stand up comedian!! :duck:

I couldn´t have said it any better myself.

As long as they still had a level head on their shoulders and it didn't interfere with my healthcare, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I have been watching a show on the Logo channel called Transgeneration. It follows four college students in the process of having sex changes. One of them was all consumed by the surgery and didn't function very well otherwise. It was all (he to she) could think about and it affected her grades. I would NOT want someone like that handling my healthcare. A couple of the other ones, I would have no problem with. One (she to he) was an excellent student and had a very level head about him. He was studying to be a neuroscientist. I'd have no problem what so ever with him being my doctor.

Ummmmm, the way I understand it transgendered people are confused. It is really a theological issue for me. I believe in God --- God who does not make mistakes. No one is given the "wrong stuff" at birth. Every single life is valuable and precious just as it is.

Circumstances can and do inform how we think about ourselves and the world around us (thus my original use of the word "confused"), but that has nothing to do with how we began. Just because we may wish something could be different (such as our gender) does not mean that is how it is supposed to be. Self-determination is an empty dream. So as to the original question, I could never entrust my health care to someone who has a fundamental misunderstanding about such things.

What fascinates me is that people here act like this would have come as a surprise to them - like you wouldn't have noticed over the course of years that this person was undergoing changes? It's not like they decide one day, and the next have the operation. If this was a trusted doctor before, why would that change? Those of you who were uncomfortable with this would have run for the hills years before. As to whether the doc is an ob/gyn, why would that make a difference? Personally, I am not comfortable with a man "down there" - I want a doctor who has actually been in the stirrups. In fact, wouldn't this person now be better qualified as a doctor, having had personal experience with both gender's issues?

Wow! There is ALOT of misinformation out there! A person who changes his/her gender does NOT do this overnight. The doctor has been treating others for a long time while in the process of changing genders. There are many, many steps (baby steps) and many operations to make this change complete.

If someone likes the doctor they started with........it's still the SAME doctor! Keep going!

This would be the same as if someone said that they didn't want to be around you because you've gotten breast implants, had your stomach stapled and lost a ton of weight, colored your hair, etc.

The person on the INSIDE is the same! This doctor has been transgendered in his/her mind for many years.....now the "outward" signs are being finalized.

And by the way........since someone has chosen to throw religion into the mix, since when are we supposed to judge others? :confused3

God made me gay. And it's not a mistake. It's a wonderful thing. Earlier in my life I wanted to change it, but as I've grown up and taken adult responsibilities, I've seen God's wisdom and the life path I have been put on.

Maybe (just maybe) God's challenge to this doctor was to put a female soul in a male body (for whatever reason, ours is to not fathom the 'why,' ours is to trust) and for this person to go through a transformative process that very, very few people will ever see the depth of. But you know what? It's not up to you to know and it's not up to you to judge that person's relationship to God.

So, if someone was born infertile, they shouldn't go through IF treatments? If a baby is born with a bad heart/liver/whatever, the parents should just deal with it, since that it what God gave them, and he doesn't make mistakes?

Hmm..I don't understand that logic. I wouldn't have a problem.

I don't think that is fair. Everyone who has posted here has "judged" the situation. Christians are supposed to love everyone not tell them that whatever they do is A O.K.!

This thread is making me sad.

Why can't people be accepted for who they are?

For those of you that opposed it, if you had a child that happened to be homosexual or decided to change sexes what are you doing to do, disown them. Would you be okay with your child being discriminated against?

Is it okay?

You don't have to answer that, I'm not visiting this thread anymore.

I wouldn't care. It's so hard to find a family doctor these days, I'd be holding on to him or her for dear life! I've had both male and female gynocologists and I've been happy with them both, so it wouldn't be an issue.

I believe that just because doctors CAN do some things, it doesn't necessarily mean they SHOULD.

There are ethical arguments to be made for a number of medical treatments, and since you brought it up, fertility treatments are a good example of such medical treatments. A simple procedure to help an infertile couple is one thing; a fertility treatment that results in 5 or 6 babies is another.

I believe that there are some things that God (or Nature, if you prefer) intend as absolute. One's gender definitely fits into that category IMO. This is the main reason I would not be comfortable with being medically treated by such a person--I'd prefer not to leave my medical care in the hands of someone who thinks it's O.K. for doctors to play God. And "choosing" a person's gender is one of those things only God (or Nature) should do.

Moreover, I don't see any comparison between attempting to change the most major component of your entire existance to a cosmetic procedure like breast implants or a nose job.
