I don't like doing split stays, so I would stay in one place. I feel like split stays make me more aware of how quickly my vacation is going. I like to just unpack and stay in one place.
I would do the split stay. We usually take a Lyft to the new resort with our luggage and leave it at bell services, then continue on to the park. Does your son need to nap? That might be a problem if you can't get into your new room before 4pm (I think that's the technical checkin time).
I don't check in I just drop the luggage at bell services. This way if you need something from your luggage during the day it's there when you come back. Otherwise you may have to wait for delivery. You don't even need to go to the second resort with Lyft. What I do is just take my luggage to bell service to transfer over, go to the park for the day, then go to my new resort and check in. No point in going there earlier to check in.
6 nights at CBRWould you rather spend 6 nights at the CBR or a split stay of 3 nights at the All Star Movies followed by 3 nights at the WL? They come out to about the same price. We are considering a stay in November 2021 with my DH and DS (2). It will be both of their first times to WDW, but they have been many times to DL. I really want my hubby to have a great time, especially since he's used to day trips at DL instead of weeklong resort Disney vacations. We love hotels, pools, and restaurants. My DH loves cabins so I think he would love the WL and my 2 year old would love the All Star Movies, but we would have to change hotels. I think my DH would also love the theming of the CBR because we met while working for Carnival Cruise Lines and spent a lot of time in the Caribbean. They have a great pool too and the skyline is a plus! I have just heard that it is really spread out so I'm not sure if that's an issue. What are your thoughts?
What don't you like about CBR?Split
I also don’t care for CBR so that plays into my decision.

What don't you like about CBR?
Just my opinions
1). Way too spread out
2). I don’t care for the theming
3) Not big on the dining options.
Many of the buildings pretty much require you to drive to the main building or take the internal bus, a real inconvenience. This is coming from someone who loves Port Orleans Riverside which is also a good size resort but that felt much smaller than CBR believe it or not.

That’s a non issue tbh, on moving day it’s easy enough to go to a park or hang out at the pool at either resort. Last month the day I switched from GF to YC I went to AK. Unless you’re staying DVC it’s rare for it to take until late afternoon to get a room IME. I got my room ready text while I was getting off Dinosaur at like 1pm. I only stayed until 4 because Disney was moving my bags over and I knew that would be later in the day.
