Longer version of the question: would you rather stay in a Copper Creek Cabin and lose 2 points, or stay in a Poly Bungalow and spend 105 extra points?

Background:
  • Chose the Bungalow in my initial plans as I was ultimately motivated to not lose any points.
  • I'm now reconsidering because spending 105 to save 2 seems...unbalanced.
  • I've longterm-budgeted for the Bungalow stay and don't think the extra 105 points would impact any trips in the next 4 years.
  • Basically allergic to losing points.
  • I've never lost any points before.
  • It's unlikely, but not impossible, I'll find a use for the 2 lost points before they expire.
  • Magic Kingdom has no special fireworks for this stay.

I'd save the extra 105 probably. If you can't bank them, transfer them to someone who can use them, or use the extra points for an extra trip, then worst case scenario you could rent out those 105 points to pay some dues, or put them plus those 2 expiring points into Interval International to extend their usefulness (even at a lower value) and use them for some other trip in the next 2 years

I presume that you've narrowed your preferences down to Copper Creek and Poly Bungalow (vs any other DVC resort). If that's the case, then what are the reasons you included Poly that Copper Creek doesn't provide (the Poly Pro's over Copper Creek).

If you value them both close to the same, seems losing the 2 points and staying at Copper Creek is the way to go.

If there are perks you prefer about Poly (as you noted, it was your initial choice), then are they worth the 105 points (vs presumably 107 if you didn't have 2 extra points)?

If you haven't experienced he bungalows yet, I'd do that.

I've got 1 not bankable BWV point that irks me every time I see it in my dashboard, but when I think about it logically all I'm out is the $8.67 it cost me in dues. I'd save the 105 points.

lose the 2 points. I like the cabins much more than the bungalow

If you are using Poly points for this, book a bungalow and try to switch to a shiny new Penthouse villa? If not, then personally I would just book a CCV cabin.

That could be argued, anywhere but among DVC owners with the same mindset  Let’s call it DVC math lol

That said, a vote for the CC cabins and, potentially banked points for another trip in the future.

Would the weather negate enjoying the cold pool or heated pool? For me it’s always to maximize the use of the accommodation.

Thanks all for chiming in! Results so far are certainly favoring one side 😅

We're still much more on the fence than these results would suggest. If anything, are leaning toward the Bungalow.

I'll answer some of the questions that have come up.

This is a big factor for us! We've stayed in the Cabins a couple times and loved it, want to try the Bungalows too!

Having 2 points linger on my dashboard like that for about year is definitely going to irk me :D

Though you raise a good point about the monetary equivalent...the loss is extremely minimal, we didn't even pay dues on the points we'd lose.

We're using resale SAP for this, though I suppose there's a non-zero chance a Penthouse is available when my 7m hits. This is a good call out, we'd likely switch to a Penthouse if it's available!

Our 7m isn't for a little bit, but we likely won't have a ton of options for this stay. Of all the rooms that meet our minimum points threshold, CCV Cabin and Poly Bungalow will both be available with good inventory (and technically the Cabin doesn't meet the threshold). Only other options would be Grand Villas or the Penthouse.

Riviera GV will likely be available, but we're using points that aren't eligible for Riviera. Copper Creek GV might be available, but we've decided to prioritize the Cabin over it. SSR and AKV GVs will also likely be available, but don't use enough points.

As for the impact of the rest of the Poly/CCV resorts, it's a good call out but it probably doesn't have much an impact for our decision for this stay. We like both and are staying at both again just a few months later!

Originally would have said lose 2 points.

Wee hours of the morning I am perusing my dashboard trying to become more familiar with it. I see available to bank August 1 I was like what the literal F is this.. how did I lose 1 point?? Is MS open because what is happening?!! Amid my panic I realized that it was just telling me I had to bank points by August 1

Losing 1 point sure meant alot more to me than I would've originally thought 🤣 🤣

But serioulsy though Ive seen you tube videos of the cabins and I would choose the cabins, but if you've stayed there before then Id spend the extra if you got them to burn.

What about the Bungalows is not nice?
Dark and dingy. Only two bedrooms, but the points are more than a deluxe 3 bedroom villa. One bedroom has a king bed like usual, but the second bedroom only has one
bed and a small pull down bed, not the usual two queens. One and done for me.

The cabins are identical to the bungalows. The only difference being a hot tub on the deck versus a cold plunge.

I’d take a cabin over a bungalow for a few reasons, but none have to do with the villa itself.

Unless there is a need for the bungalow, I would just lose 2 points.

LAX

I am letting 3 points expire in 2 days. I’m sad about it but renting them out would have entailed renting out more points I don’t want to rent out.

I’m coming around to one of @DVC Doctor ’s rules of DVC: always be borrowing.
