Would you rather drive or take Disney buses?

Would you rather drive to parks or take Disney buses during Easter week? It can only be one or the other, drive everywhere or take the buses everywhere. What do you think would be faster? The offsite hotel would be about 1-2 miles from the WDW resort entrance, the onsite hotel would be POR or CSR.We would not rent a care if we stay onsite. Our family is having a debate. Thanks.

Avoid the buses like a plague. They are a system designed to keep you away from the parks as long as possible.

Another driver here.....we would much prefer to have a car than deal with crowded buses.

Easter week can be packed. Sometimes closing to only onsite guests.

That aside, if going to the MK, I'd MUCH prefer to take the busses and avoid the chaos at the TTC. Had a wait of 30 min in line to get the monorail to the TTC and then it didn't stop there.......had another 30 min in line JUST to get the tram to the parking lot to our car when we left. So it ended up being close to 90 minutes getting out of the park when I include the time in the car trying to get out of the parking lot !

So....we've done both. The disney busses win hands down in our experiences (maybe 35-40 trips to WDW) when getting in and out of the MK. We've stayed on and offsite. If I decided to drive to the other parks, during Easter Week and was staying offsite.....I would definitely get to the parking lots no later than 9-9:30 am. That's the latest......
We did Easter week before. It got really bad Thurs, Friday and then Easter weekend. The weekend was just crazy ! Mon, Tues and Wed weren't too bad at all.

Easy - drive! The buses will be packed. Both of those resorts have multiple bus stops, so if yours is not the first stop, the buses may fill up before they even get to your stop.

The only exception MAY be when you want to go to MK. Then the waits for the monorail or ferry may be just as long. For all the other parks, I'd drive even if staying onsite. HTH.

I agree with the other posters. Driving to the parks will be better with the single exception of MK. That's because you have to take the tram to the TTC and then take the ferry or the monorail into the MK, while resort buses can skip the TTC.

Well, the problem is it is one or the other. If we are off site we will drive to each park, if we are on site we will not rent a car. The one time we stayed off site I really disliked all the time it took to get to MK. I vowed never to do it again. But, I do not want to go on the buses during a holiday week. DD really wants to stay on site. I don't think she understands how crowded it will be.:confused3

When we stayed at the YC & BC we used Disney transportation. I would never do it again. Driving is the answer for us.

We rent a car regardless of whether we're staying onsite or off. We just like the convenience and the freedom to go where we want when we want. With our APs we don't have to pay for parking anywhere even if we're staying offsite so that's not a factor for us.

The only times we take the bus are when we're staying onsite and going to DTD where parking can be difficult to find in the evenings or when we are planning to have a few drinks at PI.

We must be in the minority, as we much prefer to take Disney Transportation...

However, we do not visit at extremely busy times (such as Easter weekend).

I'm about 50/50 about using disney transportation FamilyGuy....I do find the disney busses/monorails very convenient. I love getting dropped off at the front of the park and just bypassing the parking lots and trams. But I'm pretty sure we're in the minority because this is the Orlando/offsite boards.

If the OP were to post this question/scenario on the wdw resorts boards, there would be a shift in opinions. We happen to stay both on and offsite (more onsite though). We absolutely love staying at the WL and being able to take the resort ferry back and forth to the MK. I tried to get the WL for our Dec trip and it was sold out (as of July when I tried). We stayed here in August. At park close, we watched as literally hundreds of offsiters were loaded up to the monorail queu (like "cattle" by dh joked....believe me....we've been there). We strolled right on to the ferry and were in our room within 20 min total time.

I've heard comments about crowded busses----but even offsiters will run into crowded (and I mean jam packed) trams and monorails if they're going during Easter week. Even at the end of the night of a normal (non holiday) week, the parks are crowded. So even offsiters leaving the MK at the end of the day in June, or Oct etc, is going to come across being herded onto the monorail and then moderate wait times for the trams. In August, while staying at Vistana, it took us about 45 minutes to get from the MK to our car. Then we still had a 10 min drive back to the resort. So people complain about disney bus times and crowded busses........but the busses are usually only very crowded at park closing. I rarely come across standing situations except for those times.

So when people have issues with how long the disney busses take to get to the MK, are they really calculating the extra time offsiters or anyone driving has as far as the TTC goes ? In August, we waited close to 15-20 min just for a tram back to our car. That didn't include the wait time for the monorail from the MK to the TTC. So, I still contend, onsiters have the advantage over anyone driving when it comes to the MK. The other parks, I do believe, can be done quicker with a car. But we always seem to be the ones, that when we get to the parking lot, we are directed to the very far end. The farthest spots from the tram loading. We swear this always happens to us. Those people that get parking spots right up front are lucky---but it's all in the timing ! lol

That said, even when we stay onsite, we use a car sometimes. Since the OP will not be renting a car for their stay at POR/CSR, I'm thinking offsite might be better. Having a rental just gives you more flexibility. We especially like it for resort to resort dining. Just plan to be in the parking lots early on the Friday/Sat/Sun of Easter week. Those will be the worst days. I'd be in the parking lot by 8:00 am if I were driving on those days. So offsite is definitely doable....but just be ready for chaos especially if you plan to be in the MK over the weekend & driving a car. I'd bet alot of money it will take you at least 90 min, if not longer to get out of the MK if you leave at closing or anywhere near it. I think if you plan to be in the parking lot early and are mentally prepared for a lengthy exit (from the MK mostly), you'll be ok. Good luck !

We'll use the bus for MK but drive to the other parks. We live about an hour and a half away and take day trips. As you can imagine, driving a mile or two is no big deal for us and we like the feeling of control. Sometimes it seems those buses will never come and then you have to stand!

Well, luckily we will not be there the weekend of Easter. Our flight leaves on good Friday. Maybe we will avoid the the worst of the worst crowds! We are prepared and are going by the TGM plans.

We drive even when staying onsite---again, except for MK.

The other exception is when we plan on having that second glass of wine with dinner. ;)

drive to Epcot and studio generally when staying onsite. take WDW transportation to MK and AK.

that say at Pop century I don't drive at all. Pop has some of the best transportation of any of the WDW resorts. It doesn't share with any resort - so the bus goes directly to the parks.

So once arriving at Pop just park the car and don't worth about it until leaving. Unless going to another resort to eat - then definitely drive no matter where located.

I wish I could have the option of taking buses to MK and driving everywhere else. But, we fly and would only rent a car if staying offsite.

I shudder at the thought of driving to a park and love the Disney buses. I highly recommend CSR for its bus service, plus everything else! We stayed at CSR in July, the resort was full but the bus service was fabulous. Buses were never crowded and most often were less than half full. We had a rental car for part of the time but still took the buses to parks.

We drive to the parks even when we stay on-site. Yes, MK can be a pain, but then think of all the time you'll be waiting in line for the buses to get to the other parks. We only use the bus to go to EMH at MK, b/c we know we'll be too tired to wait for the monorail AND the tram.

Whether staying on site or off site we always drive to the parks. The buses take sooo long because of the many stops and the wait to get one. Half of the time you can't get a seat. They are over crowded and at the end of the day, not a very pleasant experience. If you are staying on site, parking is free. So why not be comfortable.
