Would you pay extra for a preferred room at Pop Century?

If you book standard, and you're unhappy with your room location, and they can't move you, it's always worth asking to pay the difference and upgrade to preferred when you check in. Or ask if you can move to another standard location the next day if possible. No guarantee of availability of course, but a couple of options to consider.

I asked to move on my last trip before the shutdown. We were assigned a room on the far side of the 80s building. I politely asked if there were any other rooms available and I got moved. Still in the 80s buildings but way closer to the parking lot which is a quick walk to the buses and food court.

Nope, we always stay Standard or Standard pool view. We stayed preferred once only because of a good AP discount and it was actually further then some of the standard rooms we’ve stayed in, we’ve been staying at POP every year except a couple times since 2006 and my DH has a weird thing that he has time the walk from the furthest part every trip and it’s never more then a 7-8 min walk.

True, but I'd rather just be locked in and not have to worry about it. But that's just me.... I like to get my "room ready" text and head straight there without worrying about having to switch or upgrade.

Understood.

For me, I prefer standard lake view rooms in the 50’s/60’s/70’s over the preferred rooms in these sections, so it’s worth it for me to book standard.

Question about preferred, we have a preferred room booked at pop in a week and I did the online check in and it only offered me a choice between 50s or 70s as a preference. I thought 60s was one of the preferred ones as well. Any reason why it won’t let me choose that? Was hoping to stay in the 60s on the 50s side this time.

I think 60's is it's own catagory, Pool Preferred.

Thanks! Didn’t know that, I thought the pool rooms all faced the pool so the backside of the 60s that didn’t face it would have been regular. we didn’t want to face the pool, too loud for us so didn’t book pool preferred. Will request 50s then.

All of the 60s section rooms are not preferred pool view, but all preferred pool view rooms are in the 60s section. There's a color coded map on the first page of the Pop thread showing the category breakdown.

Online check in is wonky. Choices are often missing. Call in and request 60’s preferred.

Looks like that is the case according to the the poster above. Maybe something has changed with the skyliner. Sorry for the bad information.

Online check in options have been messed up for at least a year now.

We have stayed Pop many times and we actually always request 80's bottom floor. Easy walk to bus thru the parking lot. Only place we have ever gotten Preferred is this coming trip at Saratoga because we plan to walk to DS.

Every time we book a standard we end up in 80s or 90s, which are a walk for me in the morning to bring back breakfast or for the kids to run to refill their mugs.
