Would you pay $300 for your family to see Hoop Dee Doo?

but for that amount of $$ (really much, much less), I'd eat at Trail's End (lovely buffet, very reasonable cost), let the kids play at the petting zoo (free), take the campground bus to the movie (what, five bucks for the marshmallows and stick?), and you could probably even fit in a hayride around the campground. Just another IMHO...

Terry,
We do LOVE Trail's End. We've been there many times over the years. Done the petting zoo and all the other activities as well. My almost 17,15 and 13 year old boys are beyond petting zoos at this point and as I mentioned in the original post this may be the one new "big" thing we do that adds some spice to the vacation.

Like many we put it off for years because of the cost. When we finally went we loved it. I think its worth the cost of at least trying it out. I think you will actually think it is worth it after you do it.

We went on March 30th, family of 4 with two DD's 12 & 15. Although we were glad we saw it, the show was just okay. The food was good but you don't get long to eat it so ask for seconds right away. I don't know if we were too tired to get into the slap stick humor but the rest of the audience wasn't into it as much either. Maybe just an off night all the way around.

My 15 year old loved it and my 12 year old was petrified they were going to pull her on stage (she's very shy) so she didn't like it from that aspect. We had great seats about 5 rows back, a little off from the center and I only made reservations about 30 days in advance for the 7 pm show. We do still sing the song - Hoop Dee Doo (you'll know what I mean after you see it!)

We did this instead of Cirque de Soleil and I think it was a mistake on our part..... glad we saw it but don't need to again for quite awhile.....:D Lots of fun but lots of $$$$

Now if you ever get to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the summer go to the Bar J Ranch cookout - wonderful, professional entertainment at less than half the price of the Hoop and WOW..... not to be missed :D We were spoiled which may have left our view of the Hoop a little tainted.....

You'll love the show! It's adorable and everyone in the audience gets involved. They even hand out musical instruments (in the form of a washboard), so that everyone can play along.

If anyone in your party is having a birthday or anniversary that week, please let them know. They will recognize your special event.

When I attended last summer, one couple said they were celebrating their 23 and 3/4 anniversary (just to be part of the fun). Also, if you like to ham it up for an audience, there's ample opportunity OR you can just sit back and enjoy the show!

If you do have teenage boys, another perk is that it's all-you-can-eat.

One last note, if there's any way you can swing Cirque du Soleil, too, it's the best show I've ever seen. No dinner involved, but you will walk out of the theater feeling like you can fly :D

Just went and paid about $250.00 my family's a bit smaller and we are still able to get the kids price on two. It was worth every penny to us. I'm sure we will return, but not on the next trip. DH, and DS just love this corny stuff!

I'd do Cirque du Soleil and dinner at House of Blues instead. A lot of fun and easy to get to.

Food is usually good, although last time it was not especially good. Think of it this way that's $43 per person. Is it worth it? Perhaps. Based on the last time we were there, most definetly not. Based on previous times, probably a yes. It is usually $24 for a child, and $45 if I remeber correctly for adults. But, again it is up to you, the show is usually funny.

I have been to Hoop, 5 times, and I am starting to get depressed we don't have a trip planned this trip. It will be the first time we don't have a reservation. A friend of mine used to have Hoop Dee Doo parties.

Last year my DS was 5. He was approached to go onstage but wouldn't go without his cousins. LOL When he left the show he looked at me and told me - Mom, we really need to buy that movie for at home. Wish they would record it so I could buy it. LOL

Look forward to some good, old fashioned fun. Lot's of belly laughs. You will find, you just can't help yourself. And I just can't help myself, and I think I am going to call and try to get ressies for Oct and surprise everyone.

Every time I consider HDD, and every time I nix it because of cost, and my dh and I aren't big into corny humor. The price of HDD equals 2.5 character meals. Yes, our 3 kids each pick a character meal, and we spend about $210-230 on those 3 meals total. For us, 3 meals with characters for entertainment and all the food we want is a better value than 1time at HDD. I thought about it for when my dh and I are goin alone, but for $100 I'd rather head to CG. Plus, we're headed for a cruise, so food is not going to be a priority at Disney. Riding ExtraTerrorestrial Encounter, which we've never done because of kids, will be at the top of my list.

Belle5, I hope HDD is a wonderful experience that makes this trip extra special for your family. Over Thanksgiving we splurged on a MK fireworks cruise, and I'm sure there are people who think it's nuts to pay that much when you can see them for free. If it creates a special family memory, and the fireworks cruise did for us, it's worth the money.

travelitis,
Thanks for the good wishes on HDR. Like you, we have occasionally splurged on something (like an Illuminations Cruise) which on looking back we have not regretted the one time expenditure. In a way, I'm glad we've never done HDR because it is fun to look forward to! Enjoy your cruise!

Hi Belle5!

Like you, we had made many trips to WDW before trying HDDR. We pooh-poohed the Hoop Dee Doo - that is until we took our boys 3 & 8 to the HDDR when they were in their "corny joke" phase. We had such a good time in 2001 that we just went last Saturday night with the boys and their grandparents. The show is hysterical and the food is pretty good.

We've had front row tables both times (made reservations about a year in advance) and last week we were selected for the "They Come From All Over When They Come" opening number - nothing rhymes with Connecticut! One of the entertainers made great eye contact with and pointed to my youngest son who laughed loudest!

Definitely do the Doo!

We only did Hoop De Do once. My son was 5 at the time and he was chosen to perform on stage so that made it a very magical experience for us. We decided once was enough so we won't be doing it again. I think everyone should go see it at least once. That goes the same for the Luau.
