Would you opt for a 1-bdr if you could get by with a studio?

We originally thought we would only stay in studios when we bought in.One trip in a 1 br and we have never looked back.We are going next week(just 2 of us) and staying in a 1 bedroom.Go for it,you won't regret it!:)

If you want one more answer--

DH and I pick the 1 BR, as it is like having a home vs a room. That is what we joined DVC for. Our other Orlando timeshare is always 2 BR even when it's just the 2 of us!

I have the exact same thoughts. I always go with 1 bedroom, when only need studio. is this strange, I value the washer and dyer that much??

The jacuzzi tub - romantic - especially if you have shopped at DTD's Basin for bath salts whil DH has been golfing......

If you are talking about needs vs. wants, you don't "need" DVC, either, you can find a perfectly cheap room on 192 for as little as $39 per night, and it has a bed, what more do you need? They throw in the cockroaches for free! You could spend your vacation in a tent, too, or camping from the back end of your car. Yuck! I "want" more, a whole lot more, that's why I bought DVC, and I'll bet that is why you bought, too. I always get a 1 bedroom, rather than a studio--because I want it. I work hard for my money, and I think I deserve it. You deserve it, too, so reserve that I bedroom, and if you want to stay in Florida for 3 weeks, stay at the Swan and Dolphin for the remaining time.

Our next trip I have to admit we are being room hogs!! DH,DS15 and me in a 2br at OKW!! I have rationalized this with the points for a one br at BCV are the same as a 2br at OKW. But the reality is DS is 6 feet tall and the pull out couch is getting a little tough for him,to say nothing of him sleeping in in the morning!!

Well, I'm going to go against the tide here. I usually get a studio during my vacation. I prefer long stays in a studio to shorter stays in a 1-bedroom. (I usually spend at least a month at WDW in Jan/Feb, and another 2 weeks in early Dec.) Also, DH does not want the 1-bedroom--he likes the studios and does not want to spend the extra points on one.

Once in awhile, I do reserve a 1or 2-bedroom if friends are "visiting" me, and the extra beds are needed, but for just the 2 of us, it's a studio. (Most times, we are at either the BCV or BWV, so having the sofa is great for hanging out in our room.) :D

My advice is a bit more cryptic.

You have x number of points. You want to stay y number of days. You plan to travel multiple times per year, once per year or less than once per year. You do/do not have an urge to use the concierge collection.

Get the biggest unit you can within those parameters. For me length of vacation trumps size of unit.

Also I don't have a problem staying in a studio in BWV or VWL the coffee table and breakfast table were fine for eating, the refrigerator/kitchenette space adequate for snack and breakfast foods...even dinner food if you are creative with a microwave. I probably won't stay in a BCV or OKW studio again.

I agree with saving the points. We love the studios and feel that they are luxurious enough compared to the regular hotel rooms that we normally would have had. I like to stretch my points for additional trips, because even though I think I may only be making 1 or 2 trips per year, something else always comes up to want another trip, and I want those points available.

I have stayed in a 2-bedroom at OKW, and i have had no problem going back to a studio, if it will get me one more trip in the same year.

You say that it's just you & your husband right now, but don't you have friends that would like to come around & visit with you? It's nice having a living room to entertain in ;)

But really, we've always preferred the 1 bedrooms even when our first child was very young... We do prepare our breakfasts & most dinners in the unit to save on $$$ & we pack less because of the washer/dryer. If you go in the off season, the 1 bedroom in a BWV standard is only 80 points, if you want to go three times a year, you'll need to ADD ON 40 more points... Yes, you're talking add on here :jester:

YES YES YES

We've stayed in a 1BR and it was great.
To save money we used the kitchen - easy to make food. We used the oven & microwave & fridge & dishwasher. We ate off real plates (as apposed to paper)

I get up before DH & was able to have coffee in the living room while he spelt.

The jacuzzi ...aaah

We also did a load of laundry.

Well worth the points

Did you have bad experiences in BCV/OKW studios?

We stay in a studio to maximize our points. We like to take longer or multiple trips during the year and studios allow that to happen. We stayed in a 1 BR Boardwalk view last year and it was wonderful, but we could have stayed much longer if we'd gone with the studio. Longer trips are more important to us than the amenities that a 1 BR offer.

If I wanted to stay at the Swan/Dolphin, I wouldn't have bought DVC.

When we bring friends/family, we get another studio. We don't have to share a bathroom and when it's bedtime, the visitors go "home".
The wonderful thing about DVC is that it's so flexible. If I decide that I want a 1 BR, I can do that!

LMAO:p You can bet that DH wants an add-on of more than 40 points:eek: I think he's thinking 100 points minimum at BCV at some point! This will guarantee us that 1 bedroom with the space to entertain our friends:p

We are a family of three and we stay in one bedrooms, whenever possible. We enjoy the room and atmosphere it provides us, as well as, I thoroughly enjoy the washer/dryer that is in the room! I pack less and wash more, which is not an issue for us.

I also like the two tv's now that my son is 7 and loves the Disney Toon Channel.:)

It is just DW and I and we have yet to stay in a studio - we bought because of the 1 br and always stay there.

After staying in a 1 BR, our new idea of luxury is ----- space. It's very difficult to think of doing a studio, but I'm sure we will (especially to conserve on w/e points at the beginning of a trip).

We'll do both, depending on how many nights a year we want to have in Florida. But after being in the 1-bedroom I must admit the studio will kinda suck... If that darn Hoosier Lottery would just come through I could add on!

:)

PHEW!! Well I'm glad! Your friends will be pleased ;)

just the two of us. purchased in 97 and have always stayed in a 1 bedroom. If we bring along another couple, we spring for the 2 bedroom. We love the extra living space, kitchen, washer/dryer. We pack less and relax more. Going to food and wine in October..just for a few days. I originally had reserved a studio and two months later we both agreed we should change the reservation to a 1 bedroom. We just can't seem to break the habit!
