Would you opt for a 1-bdr if you could get by with a studio?

I really like the idea that the 1-bedroom has an in-room washer and dryer. Also, I wonder if the bedroom is quieter than staying in a studio because it is a separate room in the unit? I am having a difficult time justifying spending the extra points for a 1-bedroom when my husband and I can get by w/just a studio right now. Does anyone here opt for the 1-bedroom even though you don't technically "need" the extra space? We will eventually need to stay in a 1-bedroom (once we have kids), so right now we've been trying to conserve points and stay in a studio...just wondering if the 1-bedroom would be worth it now?

I would go for the 1br unless you have a hard, planned use for those points. Conserving points is great, but treating yourself is also great!

Have fun with your points!....

This is a question we've also wondered about. We recently tried a 1 BR for the first time when we were at HH. ANd there are just two of us (kids grown). You're right-the bedrooms in the 1 BRs are quieter, at least ours was. Our 1 bedroom was an end unit, so we just had an outside wall. All our studios have been lock-offs, and not as completely quiet as the 1 BR. Also, we loved having 2 TVs, since I'll watch the Disney stuff constantly, while DH likes to watch sports. The bed is a king size, and you do have the seperate jacuzzi tub. And of course, there's the washer and dryer. No doubt, we loved the 1 BR. But should we use the extra points? Is it better to vacation for 5 nights in a 1 BR vs. 8 nights in a studio? We wrestle with this dilema and I'd love to hear others' opinions.

I have to agree with Maistre Gracey, if you have the points get the 1 bedroom. They are much nicer. I recently went on a trip with my best friend and we her and I got a 1 bedroom. It was worth it! My husband and I have also discussed that when the our 2 kids our grown and we don't need the 2 bedroom anymore, we will get the 1 bedroom for the 2 of us.

Go for the 1BR

OK, I'm going to show this thread to my DH now...wish me luck! I think he thinks I'm crazy to want to spend the extra points:p

We opt for the GV when the two bedroom would easily do.

As far as "quiet" goes, with the 1BR, you will have the living room between your master bedroom and the adjoining studio, in case the studio is occupied by noisy folks. Just remember, it is hard to go back to a studio after staying in the 1BR. All that space, w/d, jacuzzi, full kitchen just makes the vacation *more* of a vacation. Enjoy!

We just came back from OKW and we used both the studio and 1bd options. Here's our assessment:

If you want to relax and hangout a bit in your room (we came home from the parks about 6ish), the 1bd is a must. There is a sofa, coffee table, extra room to walk around, a nice dining room table, dishwasher, and FULL sized refrigerator not to mention the all important and thoroughly loved washer and drier. If you plan to have any type of snacks, food, drinks, etc. in your room, this is the place for you.

For the studio, it was comfortable, albeit a little tight. It is really hard to relax, watch TV, read magazines, etc. on the bed. The refrig. is nice sized, however, we had to use the closet as a pantry for our carbos (we are major carbo addicts). The small table was a little too small for us. We also ran out of the plasticware in no time and had to do a lot of hand washing.

Therefore, we have joined the 1bd "snobs" (meant in the nicest way of course) and I think we will use the extra points for the extra space and convenience of the 1bd.

It was just my wife and I -- but we had a 1BR at BWV (standard view at the 7-month mark) when we went to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival in 2001. We enjoyed having the extra space, a full kitchen, a real living room in which to relax in the evening, a washer & dryer, and the luxury that comes from staying in a suite.

Go for a 1BR if you have the points.

We get a 1 bdrm when we can easily use a studio. Part of our buying into DVC was the ability to upgrade the quality of the lodgings and the amenities that go with it. It makes a difference when you are staying a week or more. At least it does for us.

It is just DH and I and unless we are going for a really short time (like when we added two days after a cruise) we opt for a 1 bedroom.

I like the extra space, like the washer and dryer, and love the tub!

Also since I'm a morning person and DH stays up later it lets us do our thing without disturbing the other.

Studios are fine, but give me a 1 bedroom!

We are a married couple no kids. We have done both studio and 1BR and while a studio will do. Here is why we like the 1BR:

1. DH golfs and after 5hrs in the FL sun...those clothes are not going back in the suitcase --- wash/dryer is awesome.
2. I get up earlier than DH, so I can get up, watch news, make coffee while DH catches a few more zzzz's.
3. We can do more meals (even just bagel and coffee in am)....it just "feels" better than sitting in a smaller studio and eating there. The fridge is decent sized for bear, wine, WATER, fruit, yogurt, etc.
4. Back to the golf, while DH is golfing, I shop, park hop to watch the parades, but sometime head back to the room to relax and escape the sun.
5. The jacuzzi tub - romantic - especially if you have shopped at DTD's Basin for bath salts whil DH has been golfing......

and Dave Letterman's #1 reason for staying in the 1BR:

We can spread our mess out and we dont feel cramped!!!

Our first trip home in December will be in a 1BR even though it's just me, DH and DS 3. I thought about booking a studio, but the extra TV and the washer/dryer will come in handy (I'll definitely have to do laundry as we have a two-week trip planned).

IMHO< the 1BR is the way to go. You're on vacation. DH and I go, just the 2 of us, and we always get a 1BR. There's something about not sleeping in your livingroom, having that extra space, the feeling of being able to relax and "spread out" that makes the vacation that much more enjoyable. The washer/dryer is a nice thing too...saves on packing.

If you and your dear spouse normally go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time, save the points. If not, get the one bedroom.

I like to get up early, close the bedroom door, get some coffee, shower, catch up on the news, walk out on the porch, get dressed and walk to the hospitality house, etc. My wife likes to sleep in.

The one bedroom is even a better deal if you think of the square feet. For about twice as many points you get about three times as many square feet of living space!

I'm a light sleeper, and I noticed something during our first stay in a 1 BR at OKW. I heard lots of bus noise in the p.m. and early a.m. that kept me awake. When I got up and closed the bathroom doors (and laundry room), it cut the noise way down. I don't know if you would have that much "buffer" area in the studio. Of course, this only applies to OKW. Well my first question is ... your on vacation.. it's not about "need" it's about enjoyment and getting the most out of it!

My other question is why are you conserving points? Is it for what? The points can only be saved for a year (banked) and it sounds like the kids are a while away yet. If your conserving points for longer or more trips.. then yea.. that is a big choice! More Disney or more comfortable Disney... I'd have to say more comfortable Disney.. go for the 1br!!! Your in DVC.. so you know you'll always be back to get more Disney. :)

We're conserving points to get maximum Disney vacation nights per year:p We have 200 points, so that's 3 weeks in Disney if we do Sun.-Thurs. (staying in a BWV standard studio for one of the 3 weeks), and spend Fri. and Sat. nights in whatever accomodations we can get cheaply at that time (this time it's the Swan for $59 on Priceline...booked back in Feb.)...DH wants to buy more points in BCV eventually, though, so we'll have enough points to do the 1 BDR all the time. I really wish we had enough to do the 1 BDR now for every trip, though
