I've already sold one house that we only lived in 10 months because of a terrifying energy within the house. It got so bad that my family was sleeping in the living room together. It was costly to boot. Too many weird and scary things were happening. So we up and just left--- we only went into pack and move during the day-- and only when lots of other people were around. I couldn't get far enough or fast enough.

So No-- NEVER!!

No way. But there was this cool mansion when I was in elementary school that was a funeral parlor/mortuary. One of the kids in my class lived upstairs and his dad did body pick up. The boys in my class used to love to sleep at his house. My dad was a city firemen. He and the other firemen used to do body pick-up as a side job. He used our family station wagon. Aaagh. I was really young then and didn't know.

A few years ago, DH and I were looking for another old house to restore. Realtor was driving us around in a town we weren't really familiar with. She started to turn into the drive of a gorgeous old place when I nearly stood up in my seat. I spotted a "ramp" on the side of the house and immediately knew what this place had been and why the price was sooo good. Yep, a former funeral home and none of the residents of that town would touch it. DH said "Ain't no way, drive on"! Later, while we were still riding with the realtor, he (DH) got an idea. Said, why don't we get the place and turn it into a fancy restaurant and call it DINE WITH THE DEAD???!!! I smacked him!

Back in my younger days, one night a friend and I hooked up with these guys we sort of knew and were hanging out. They took us to their friends apartment....the top floor of a funeral home! OMG, I was so freaked out. Then when they ever told us there was a body downstairs I thought Id be next!

Maybe. If the deal was right, and the house was outanding, I think I would. If you are one who believes in spirits, look at it this way: What respectable spirit/ghost haunts the funeral home? They haunt their own homes, or favorite places. That is, if you believe in spirits I couldn't tell you that I've never lived in a place where at least one person passed away.

You are so right! I don't think that the "spirits" would come to the funeral home!

ANd since every place I've lived as an adult has been an older home, I am sure that people have died in this home, or any of the homes I have lived in!

I love old houses (and have a degree in architecture and historic preservation) and you're kidding yourself if you live in an older house and think that someone hasn't died there. It always strikes me as funny that the biggest, most beautiful houses I see end up being funeral homes (the ones that haven't been painted white and black, I mean). I'm not sure what would have been done to the inside to make it into a funeral home but I'm sure extensive (and expensive) rennovations would be required to turn it back into a private home. If the house were priced right and was not on a main road, I would definately consider it.

I also believe in spirits but I definately don't think they would hang around a funeral home but rather would hang around places they frequented in life. The only thing I'd worry about is whether I was planning to stay long enough to not have to worry about potential resale... obviously there is a stigma attached to the place, moreso if people can remember attending funerals there. If I couldn't hold onto it for at least 10-20 years, it would probably not be a wise investment.

My first reaction was NO WAY. But the posters who said the spirits wouldn't hang out at a funeral home make an excellent point! My neighbor right next door died in his home and that home is 15 years old. His wife still lives there. You just never know!

NO WAY! I'm such a scaredy cat, I'm not sure if I'd even be comfortable living near a cemetary. That would be way too weird and freaky.

I don't think it would bother me. I don't think ghosts are going to hang around in a funeral home! They probably have more important things to haunt.

I love big mansion looking homes so if it had the right look and the right price I would do it. Our first house was built over the hospital area for Camp Chase. We often heard/saw things. We heard more then anything. Always sounding like someone walking in the upstairs hall. Guests heard it too. I have to agree that I would think spirits wouldn't hang out at the funeral home
Although if there were any we would have to arrive at an agreement or they would have to leave

(We sold our "haunted" house because we wanted to be in a nicer neighborhood)
