Would you mind if your local beach allowed topless sunbathing?

A local beach in South Jersey is now considering allowing topless sunbathing.

Personally, it wouldn't bother me but my Dh is Portugese descent so we're a bit use to it when we travel to Europe.

ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) - June 28, 2010 -- Once among the top seaside resorts on the East Coast, Asbury Park is keeping abreast of vacationers' changing tastes: It is considering letting women go topless on a city beach.

But unlike other secluded nude beaches in the Garden State, this one could be right in your face, with the boardwalk offering a prime view that some parents might not want junior to see.

The city council is considering a request from Reggie Flimlin, an Asbury Park woman who owns a yoga studio, to allow women to decide for themselves whether they want to wear bikini tops on the beach. She says it's already happening on less populated beaches in the city's north end.

"A lot of women are just organically deciding they want to sunbathe without their top," she said. "That's great, that's fine, and I have no problem with it."

No problem with it. Would go to Oak Street beach and go topless if I could.

Its just breasts! I mean 50% of the population has them.

Doesn't bother me at all. You were born naked, it's nothing to be a shamed of, no matter what you look like. I think people are silly on how they treat nudity anyway... and it's not even complete nudity. Lol, they're just breasts... I never understand why it's made to be something bigger than it should be.

We've had and still have some topless beaches around here.

It's not as sexy as you think. There are women who have been sunbathing topless for YEARS here in our lovely Southern California. Egads!

Nope, wouldn't mind at all.

But then, my parents are both Dutch immigrants, so I grew up with the European mindset of bodies. I never wore a bathing suit top until I was 7. And then my parents decided that it was probably better that when in America, it would probably be best to do as Americans do.

I spent many summers on European beaches with my cousins, aunts, and mother and they all took their tops off to sunbathe. It never bothered anybody, and the men and boys were not titilated. It was just normal.

Although the American culture rubbed off on me and I personally couldn't walk around topless, I have absolutely no problems with seeing women topless from a boardwalk, nor would I have any qualms allowing my 13 year old son on the boardwalk or on the beach.

Heck, everytime he goes to Oma's house, there is a lifesize copy of a famous nude painting hanging in the living room over the couch.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I think Asbury Park caters to an adult crowd and a topless beach would maybe bring in much needed income and tourists to the area. It's not as if they are making Point Pleasant Beach topless.

Actually, 100% of the population have them. Some are just bigger than others. And the bigger ones are not necessarily all female.

im from south jersey i dont know where ashbury park is. but if its approved i will defintely find out where it is,than go.

Wouldnt mind at all. They are just breasts. Ive never been topless in public but at home Ive been known to walk through the house topless.

I think its how you treat the situation. You can see it as someone topless sun bathing no big deal. Then there will be others who will see it as nasty and gross, and treat it like a sexual situation.

It funny I have no problem being naked on the top but must keep my hiney covered.

Side note-I don't know anyone who would go to Asbury Park for the beach. While it is experiencing a "revival" of sorts, it still is not a desirable place to visit imho.

I agree regarding Asbury Park. The last time I was through there it was a completely run-down ghost town. I remember going there when I was a kid and it was a great place. I think they're grasping at straws trying to draw tourists at this point.

BTW, I always swim topless and it doesn't get much attention.
