Now that the dp is available to DVC members (assuming it is going to stay long term), I would rather have a kitchenette in 1 and 2-br Villas rather a full kitchen and dining area. I think the space could be better utilized. With a reconfiguration, 1-br could become 2-br and 2-br could be 3-br (still leaving Grand Villas as they are).

We cook about 50% of our stay, but that was because we couldn’t get the dining plan in the past.

What do you think kitchenette in larger units YEA or NAY

Given the size of our extended family and the youngsters' ages, we're not ready for the dining plan. We used the kitchen. Even if we weren't doing heavy duty cooking, we also needed the full sized refrigerator! I'm not a fan of paper plates, either. I make do with the kitchenette when we're in a studio, when we're in the larger accomodations, I prefer to have the kitchen.

Bobbi :)

I say, NO, NO, NO to the Kitchenette. Even though someone might use the dinning plan there is a possibility that they choose one or several dining options that require two credits which would still leave them possibly needing their kitchen facility. Plus as other posters have said I still want the full size refrigerator and plate/utensils. We usually do three big breakfasts during a week long stay. Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, pancakes, and bloody mary's.

I don't cook a lot, but I like the full kitchen. The DDP does not work for us.

We loved the DDP and love the kitchen too, we want it all. :rotfl2:

We have to have that large refrigerator. ;) Even with the DDP we had breakfast in our villa each morning and I agree with Bobbi, I don't want to eat off of paper plates, plastic forks, etc.

But then we put 3 people in a 2 bedroom. :rotfl:

A big NO here on the kitchenette. The full kitchen is one of the main reasons we don't just get a studio.

But then we put 3 people in a 2 bedroom

I do, too, Sammie! :rotfl: It's great, isn't it? :thumbsup2

DD, DSil, and I will be at OKW in a 2-bedroom in Jan. If DSil does not have his kitchen, he'll be lost! :lmao:

I agree to keep the kitchen. It is one of the things I love about DVC!

In future developments I think a studio type kitchenette would be just fine for 1 BR units, lower construction costs & those buying in would know what they're getting into.

Now that the DP's been avail to members on points wonder how many converts will "do it again". As for us, we love it & stretch it out over an additional day, becomes more cost effective. I cannot ever see myself cooking a "meal" on any vacation unless cost was a factor.
More importantly, how about a washer & dryer for the studios?:goodvibes

A kitchenette would be fine with us. The only stuff we use is the fridge, micro, coffee maker, and some wine glasses. :smokin:

NAY, NAY, NAY. Keep the kitchen as it is. OKW kitchen is the best.

We use the kitchen far more than we thought we would. We use the fridge, the range for eggs in the morning, and the dishwasher.

There are 1 and 2 BR units in the industry that are scaled down. In general timeshare circles they are complained about. If one gets a full kitchen and doesn't need as much, no one has to use it. But if one gets less and needs more, big problem. But to a degree, that's what happened between OKW & BWV. The kitchens for the newer resorts while functional, are quite a bit smaller than OKW is. They essentially did what you suggest already without simply making it less than fully functional. Anything less and it wouldn't work to do real cooking.

NO, NO, NO!!! Don't take away the kitchen! It wouldn't be a "home" then!

I really don't use the kitchen very much but I can't see getting rid of any component. Not the larger frig. we need it for all the drinks. Like having dishes and need the dishwasher. Sink & microwave are definates. That only leaves the stove top and oven. We have done a big breakfast... They could scale down the appliance size.

To me instead of making the kitchen smaller I would like to see the dining area larger! That table at BCV is not large enough to seat the 6, let alone 8! And it is right in the traffic flow to the living room. Take a little space from the Master and give that table some room.
