Would you lend your shoppers card to someone in line?

It's entirely possible the shopper being asked doesn't want others' spending habits showing up on their account.

I don't get this - the store is looking for trends, not items purchased on a one-time basis, and their search for trends is automated, anyway. I can't imagine anything that could be purchased at my local store that would be concerning to have on my "record." I mean, I guess I might be concerned if it looked like they were purchasing items to clean up a crime scene, but their grocery list could look very similar if they were cleaning up after a child's birthday party!

9. This issue, though, really doesn't come up that frequently in my grocery store. I mean, it's not an every day event that I'm pondering, "Should I let this person use my card? Is there a turkey in their cart?"

This made me laugh out loud. We receive a coupon for our free turkey after spending the required amount, so I'll never have to worry about an inadvertent turkey-napping if I loan my card during the holiday season - what a relief!!!

Why would the store want to give a discount to someone who won't sign up for their program if they can get full price out of the transaction?
:confused3

They want the data. They don't care who did the purchasing, per se, they just want a snapshot of what's being purchased and how often. The discount is given just to get more people to participate and give them the information. I think they'd rather have a customer who borrowed the card to get a discount than a customer who leaves without the groceries because she realizes she doesn't have her card with her and doesn't want to pay full price.

If the bolded was the case, there would be no need for "shopper cards". They're going to know what's being sold, how often, when during the day/week/month/year, and at what price point. The only reason for a shopper card is to tie purchases to an individual (or family).

:thumbsup2

The register tells them all they need to know about WHAT is being purchased, and when for that matter.

Well call me Hester and lets call it a day! I'd lend my card and I don't care if they have *gasp* alcohol in their cart. ;)

Hey Hester,
I think you get extra points on your Kroger's record if that wine comes in a nice big box. :rotfl:

Yeah, but what about that cigar? :cool2: (and I think you mean big box of whine)

Meh..the cigar is probably ok. (And you're right, I did mean whine:laughing:)
Just don't be messing with my "free" 22 lb turkey! :lmao: I had to spend $800.00 in a 2 week period to qualify for it!!! :rotfl2:

I hear Tinker'n'Fun has a delicious recipe for black licorice stuffing for that bird :cool1:

MMM…licorice turkey, boxed wine, and cigars. How did you know what my mother serves for Thanksgiving? Smells like home.

Why wait? Easter is this Sunday. Throw some peeps in the microwave and serve with all of the above

I think this year I'm going to top my sweet potato casserole with Marshmallow Peeps. Adds a little color, and questionable flavor!

Does anyone remember the great Peep drought of '78. Dark days my friends, dark days.......:scared1:

I need to revise my previous stance on people using my card because nobody mentioned that the presumptuous card borrower might buy Peeps. I can't have a store thinking that I would buy anything as disgusting as Peeps! My reputation at the grocery store would be ruined. Ruined, I tell you! I could never again look the cashier in the eye.

Just didn't seem right that this thread was on page two this morning :sad2:

Absolutely NOT. If you asked and I let you use my card my husband would be FIRED as our card is an associate card. I don't think my husbands 42 years with his company is worth you saving 50 cents instead of you taking the 30 seconds to fill out the info for a card.

You would probably think I was nasty too. You have no idea if she had an associates card or not and had been asked multiple times. It does get old to be asked multiple times.

This is our situation as well. When I have gone out of state, I sign up for the local grocery store card so I have one for myself if I plan on using them for more than a few things. For 50 cents, I would not have even bothered.
