Would you have DVC Hawaii as your home resort?

... I just HATE that 10 hour flight, and we only do it if we can go first class.

I thought, no, we wouldn't do it. However, DH said he would go under these conditions. So, MAYBE we'll do an add on. Something that would get us there every 3 years.

No. We do not plan on adding points there. We lived in Oahu when I was in the Navy. The price of the plane fare is too expensive for us to go even once every 3 years.

Living in MA, the prospect of a really long flight (or 3-4 connections) is just not something I want to do within a 7 day timeframe . It would have to be 10 days, at a minimum, and travel would definitely have to be either 1st class or business class. But, maybe I'd do an add-on at GCV, stay there a couple of days pre- and post-Hawaii (at the 7month mark with current points), then that's doable and would help me adjust a little bit better to the inevitable jet lag both ways. Just a thought or two.

Went ONce... Didnt mind the 5 hour time change going there.. the mornings were very peacefull and we loved strolling the beach at sunrise... BUT the 5 hours time change coming home... Kicked us in the butt and took me 3 weeks to get the kids changed back.

We might try for the 7 month window at some point, but wont we adding on there.

We have no plans to own/add-on. I wouldn't mind visiting once, but would never consider every 3 years. Simply too far to travel and too expensive unless there would be some terrific airfare sale. At some point, we'll probably try to book at the 7 month window.

It would really depend on the cost of the points. We live in Wisconsin, but would love to visit Hawaii more often, this might just push us into a once every three year trip.

And as the kids get older, that might be a better destination that WDW

I look at this as a non-park destination that is very appealing.

As usual the devil is in the details. It'd depend on the specifics including points tables, cost per point and how/how often I expected to go. I'd still follow the buy where you'll stay approach. I think it will be best for add ons and those that live more west coast areas. Those that don't care which resort otherwise or go off season may also do well owning there.

It's usually cheaper to fly to Florida than to Hawaii, even from the west coast. We'll visit once or twice, but won't buy points. It's cheaper for us to vacation in Florida, and the flight time is about the same.

I've been fortunate to travel a fair amount and really think DVC could be the method to visit there more often for all the same reasons we say it's better to buy into DVC than pay cash.

I agree, Hawaii is a great place to vacation. I've been a couple times already and will definitely use points at DVC when it's open. I was just addressing the notion that it may be a more popular destination for us west coasters. It's no closer to us than Florida is.

I wouldn't buy points there, mainly because I wouldn't be interested in going on a regular basis, mostly due to distance. I think this will definitely be a West Coast thing.

But, I also wouldn't be surprised if it helps actually see a use for the "trade" portion of the Rent/Trade boards....people that own Hawaii trading their 11 month booking advantage with someone who owns WDW, so that both parties can have 11 months.....maybe DVC would then allow two transfers a year with points...

Maui is our favorite Island. I have a owner at the Westin that I rent from at a reasonable rate. We get a ocean view at great rate! We do not care for Oahu, maybe a day or two as a layover. So to answer the question... No!

we went to hawaii for our honeymoon and can I tell you--unless i am flying first class--no WAY am I going back. the flight just about did me in (atlanta to Honoloulu--9 hours in the air ugh not counting the flight from central pa to atlanta) the place is absolutely gorgeous but I certianly wont be traveling there regularly.
