I agree and cruising is very different than being at WDW.....only so places you can go and limiting outdoor areas like pool decks just isn't feasible...people like to drink on deck...dont see masks as possible
Being outdoors without a mask is safe. Unless you are literally speaking in somebodies face. So people drinking on a pool deck is not a problem for me. It’s like being in a Biergarten for me. And no known person has gotten Covid from that. And where I live they have tracked that for months. Our figures went up once people started Partying indoors, family events indoors and returning to work in crowded indoor places.- all while not wearing a mask or keeping distance

Same here, the majority is caused by people getting it within their family home or gatherings with friends & family.

I am the original poster and honestly I am floored that this poll is even close. I thought for sure 90% would say no way, like I did. It amazes me how many people will continue to pay top dollar for any experience as long as it has Disney attached to it......and this from someone who has been on 11 Disney cruises and before this year have spent 10 days every August at the Polynesian for the last 20 years.
I think for most who said yes as myself, it has nothing to do with the fact that it has Disney’s name attached to it. Some of us are realists and see that there’s no end in sight for Covid and we wish to continue our lives somewhat in the near future. Even if we have a vaccine come out end of this year it would take years to eliminate the risk of catching Covid 100%. Nothing is 100%.
.I want my life back and I’m willing to take some risks in living my life. I’m a realist and I realize unless I hole myself up at home I am not 100% safe from Covid. But at the same time I need to get out whether it’s for basic needs and or for having fun. Yes ! having fun is in essential part of my life and my family What is the point of living then?

My mom is turning 70 and said herself screw it. I am fit now so I have two choices: 1. Stop having fun because I am a “high-risk“ person and wait maybe the next two, three or four years until it’s considered safe for me to travel and cruise, where most likely at that age she is no longer fit as now? Or . 2. Enjoy life now while She is fit and her grandkids are still the ages where they are traveling with her.

Is wearing a mask allows us to travel and somewhat enjoy life, while not eliminating but reducing risk, that’s the cost we are willing to take now.

And the irony is most people feel “safer” hanging out with friend and family. . It’s that mentality that people I know are good and safe and strangers are the bad people.

Friend of mine was recently at a wedding with about 60 people. I asked her if she she nervous and her response was “no because I know these people“ 😳

I selected yes. Even with a vaccine masks will still be required. I assume some of the people who selected No are planning to wait 2-3 years

the same fun as before, the EVENTS haven't changed, its just you are now wearing a hat!! geez, wearing a mask is not going to impede your sight or hearing or your enjoyment of a show or playing bingo.... OMG, people are so over thinking and making it into such a big deal... I guess someone wearing a hajab on a Disney cruise in 2019 didn't enjoy bingo as much as you did , cos they were wearing a face covering!!!
It's ABNORMAL and thus a very big deal to me!!! Why anyone would like to wear a mask is beyond me--but that's just me.

Don't really see why anyone has a problem wearing a mask. People (including young children) have done it in Asia for years.... where the humidity is through the roof and temperatures can be brutal in the summer.

A mask doesn't stop you having a great vacation. My issue with cruising - particularly with Disney at this time - is when you are paying a premium to cruise with disney for the entertainment/activities/shows - if you qrent getting to experience that it's not worth the premium.

If you are at a dinner party and 100% of the people have masks on 50% of the time, then the masks are useless. This is that same with a cruise, you won't be able to have 500 people in a dinning hall without masks and think the policy is effective. For this to work, it would have to be a 100% mask policy and only room service for meals.

I love room service. It stinks that they took that away at WDW upon reopening. That is the safest way to eat. I wouldn't be surprised if DCL doesn't offer it either, upon initial reopening. All of the cost cutting...

The inevitable cost-cutting measures, shorter hours & reduction of activities is another reason I won't pay top dollar to sail with DCL until it's normal again.

We'll go to WDW, to Hawaii when it reopens, we'll do other travel. But for us, DCL is the most expensive travel we do and we also equate it with being a carefree experience. That's a big part of the appeal for us. And masks & cutbacks would put a damper on things. Just not worth $1,000 per night for 2 people at that point.

We went to WDW and Universal Orlando last month. Masks were required in all public areas, indoors and out, at the parks and the hotel. You really only got to leave it off in your room or in the pool. We did it. It wasn't really that big of a deal. A cruise would be the same. I would definitely get a verandah though. The bigger question is how large community transmission is. Mask requirements may be around for a while, even if community transmission is lower.

Wearing a mask or social distancing is a non-issue for us. We don’t have the same backlash to these simple personal protective health measures as the US. We have had a mask mandate since well before the shut down ended.

My biggest concern is travelling to/through Florida. I am also curious as to how many Caribbean countries would permit a cruise liner coming out of Florida, largely full of Americans, to make port calls without a rapid testing capability.

Also, unfortunately, given the current COVID19 situation in the US, the Canada-US border remains closed to anything but essential travel. While there is still lots of time for it to re-open before our next booked cruise (January 21), given the prospects for a second wave over the fall/winter, I suspect there may be issues with non-essential travel.

Additionally, because the coronavirus is running unchecked in the US, we would have to quarantine for 2 weeks upon our return.

I know how long it took for Canada and other countries to get a grip on the spread of the virus with severe lockdowns. I can’t see the US achieving anything like that in the short term due to the lack of political will to implement a science based solution so like I said from the onset... the question is not whether I will wear a mask. Of course, I will. The issue is that the necessary steps to get this under control are not being taken by the states that want my hard earned tourism dollar.

(I should add that I was on the Wonder WBPC in March when it was the last of the DCL ships at sea with passengers. Disney did an amazing job at preventing transmission of the virus. It turns out that it was on board and there were some passengers and crew that got sick (with some deaths, unfortunately) but the steps Disney took to mitigate risks were impressive and we honestly felt like we were floating around in a virus—free bubble, until people started to get sick immediately upon return to San Diego.)

This is a pretty solid overview of the HUGE issue of cruises going out of the US. There is no indication that COVID is coming under control any time soon and, when science indicates a strategy that could make an impact, the US response is outrage.

We were also on the WBPC. I was so impressed with DCL and our experience. Obviously it’s very sad that anyone got sick, but I do still believe that they operated as best they could with the information they had.

I just read of a "small, family wedding" in Maine of 65 people (indoors, no masks). They've traced 53 cases of COVID in people exposed to people at the reception. And one of them (who didn't attend the wedding) has died.

No, I don’t think masks will be required after the vaccine which should be a few months away...even if the vaccine needs a little ‘tweaking’, I think things will get much closer to the pre-Covid normal than the borderline hysteria we have now...JMHO.

I can wait a few more months for my cruise...without a mask.

I think I'd rather take my chances with COVID than get a vaccine that has been fast tracked and hasn't gone through the appropriate trials.

Everyone must make their own choices..they will probably first be made available to front line workers ( and professional sports players and the rich and famous...) and hopefully immediate reactions will be noted/treated. By the time it’s made available to me, I should have a good idea of the risk. Sounding like a 2-3 shot treatment...may take a couple of months, but I am hoping to see things very much close to normal by next fall...fingers crossed.
BTW, not trying to be a smartalec, just wondering “If the choice was the vaccine, or no cruising until at least 2022, which would you choose?” On an assumption that is what the cruise lines require?

Completely agree with your Mum! I think we need to find a happy medium between protection and living as we can't be in limbo for the next however long. COVID is here and not going away so unless we try and find a balance we will end up in a further pickle as economies will be destroyed. We are already struggling with people's jobs in service industry and we have to try and maintain something. I am happy cruising with a mask given that I will be cruising. I'm actually booked on a non-Disney cruise over Christmas (I know I know its unlikely but its still currently booked). I think cruising in itself will be one of the safest ways to travel when it does start up properly as they will control everything so well. That's why I would definitely cruise even with the mask rules in place as I just think they will be overall safer. Yes if someone gets COVID or brings it onboard then the risks are higher for the infection to spread but if they can help reduce the chance of that by putting in the extra measures I've heard suggested such as precruise tests and temperature checks then cruising will be safer than going to a normal hotel where none of those rules are in place. That's why I am still planning for my December cruise even though in my head I have prepared for them to cancel
