I am thinking of going to disney by myself with my 3 year old. See, my dh is an avid hunter and he is always gone to the woods from oct. 15 to jan. 31...not everyday.....but every time he gets a chance (booooooring). I on the other hand am an avid disney fan. I was thinking that one long weekend when he is gone killing bambi me and my son would drive down to disney for a long weekend. The only thing I'm worried about is the 8.5 hour drive from birmingham. Sooooo.....my question is would you do it or not? And don't even mention flying.....I'd rather walk.:smooth:

I sooo would if I were you! Just be sure to make plenty of stops along the way. And if you do not have one, I highly recommend an in-car dvd or video player. This will keep the little one entertained for a good portion of the trip. You would have to develope a talent for changing the player as you are driving, but every mom I know can already multi-task!:smooth: Go for it and have a wonderful time!:jumping1:

Absolutely do it! You and your son will have the best time. I'm a single mom and DD4 and I will be doing our 4th trip to WDW in December. It's so much fun to go just the 2 of us.

I absolutely would do it!! My boys are 5, 3 and 7 months. I would have no problem driving 8.5 hours and spending the weekend at WDW with one of them! (Two--no. LOL And our drive is 15 hours so that's not even remotely an opton for me.) I think that would be great fun. I say go for it!!!

Yes, do it! I would take my 3yo daughter alone in a heartbeat. And I would drive too, and I am even further away, in Nashville. Heck, might even have a better time "just us girls!";)

Have fun!

I've dreamed about taking my girls (one at a time) by myself to WDW. I'd love to be able to focus on just what they want to do, instead of juggling the desires of 3 family members, LOL!

I'd take my 3 yr old son alone...I find he's getting more to the point where you can have a conversation with him, and that's such a fun age. We just spent 10 hr.s in the car each way last week on vacation and we borrowed a portable VCR that plugs in to the lighter. It entertained my son for several hours, and he learned to change tapes, rewind, etc. by himself.

Go for it - and have a great time!!!

Yes! I planned to take my 4yo last Feb, but my sister was able to join us at the last minute. It was easier having the extra set of hands and eyes, but I was prepared to do it alone.

My sister was gone the last day and the hardest part was eating out. We were at a counter serve restaurant and my little guy had to go to the bathroom. I found a CM and asked him to make sure the table was not cleared (we were about 1/2 done), and it wasn't, but that would have been a pain.

Of course eating in full serve restaurants would have made that easier.

I'm going with my 4yo again in December, meeting my sister and my mom, but I will probably go 2-3 days early and tour with only my son.

I think about doing this all the time but I'm too chicken to make the 11hr drive by myself. I say go for it !!!!!!!!! Have a great time.

Would be a whole lot more fun than going with the groucy 70 year old I am taking and I bet he would be more helpful as well.

That's it...they are called VideoNow..they have them in color, and they are about 75.00 for the unit and maybe 10.00 for the videos...they are portable, so it would also be good while sitting in the stroller, or waiting in line for the rides. If you decide to go have a wonderful trip!!!!!!:)

You guys are great!!!!!! Do yall want to come too???!!!! haha

You have talked me into it! We have a small tv with vcr that will plug into the lighter so I will definately take that. Now if I can just figure out how to change tapes while driving.......lol

I am really looking forward to it.........now I just have to decide when. I think I will go sometime in January.......not MLK weekend though. Anybody got a preference as to which weekend in January would be the least crowded?

I would go! I would have loved that option, but I had twins and when they were 3 years old I could barely keep my sanity in the grocery store let alone a driving trip to WDW. Since your DH usually isn't available in the fall/early winter I'd make it yearly thing. And after your son gets a little bit older and you two are laughing and remembering the wonderful memories you've had of past trips, maybe DH will decide to join you. If not, you've got wonderful memories that are just between you and your son-and you know how special the mother-son relationship is!

As long as you avoid 1/2 and MLK weekend you should be in good shape.

I'm bringing my 11yo (first time we've gone alone together) later in Jan. I've been a couple of times that time of the year and it's wonderful--nice weather for the most part and low crowds.

You crack me up, as my 4yo likes to say! I bet you're fun at WDW!

disneyfanz04, is that like a GameBoy?

Tigger&Belle, I have often been called cracked. (wry smile) BTW, what makes ya think I am kidding? I have the only husband who has been banned from the Foutainview Restaurant and I am not sure he can return to the stage at England as he got awfully upset cause someone wanted to share a bench with us. If you should run into us, please sit on my side of the bench. I need the company. A sense of humor is the only reason I have lived long enough to celebrate 32 years of marital bliss next week. That and fear of jail.

You can't play games on it, but they sell full cartoons on little cartridges you can buy...like spongebob, fairly oddparents, and a bunch of others....it is really cool, I am gonna get them for the girls for Christmas. You can look at www.toysrus.com if you want to see what they look like.

I've never heard of that. Good thing to pass the time, especially in the car.

SlightlyGoofy, your DH sounds like quite a guy! ;) I've got to know more about that bench problem! lol

I would love to take my 4 year old by himself or his brother when he turns 3. It will be such a special bonding experience for you. I might just plan this if my husband won't commit to taking a trip!

I would either go Jan. 8th or Jan. 29th, just to make sure you miss all the people who hang around before and after MLK day, though Jan. 22nd wouldn't be too bad.

Have fun!
