If it's a box of wine with a cover on it, I'd have to say no! I don't know too many people that drink wine out of a box. Um having said that, I hope I didn't just offend you if you are giving that gift to someone

Actually, I have a box of wine in the fridge right now... shhhhh! Please don't tell anyone!

See, DH likes an occasional glass of White Zinfandel. Just one glass... and he's not picky about the label. So it's a lot easier to keep that box chilled so he can just get a glass than to open a bottle and then have most of it go to waste.

And, no, I do NOT live in a trailer park.

We received an industrial stapler and a box of staples as a wedding gift. I would have to say it is a toss up!

BTW--when we break out the boxed wine, all of the guests would be too drunk to appreciate the cover displayed above!

Actually, I recently read that many big-name wineries are trying to overcome the image the "box o' wine" has, and market good wine in different "boxes".

Evidently, for people who don't finish a full bottle, the box is better, because by keeping the air out of the wine, it doesn't go bad like an open bottle would.

We just gave some friends a small compost bin! They loved it-ya gotta know your friends. If a nicely decorated box for boxed
wine fits the friends-do it!

SO I never thought of boxed wine... I like an very occassional glass of white zin as well, and the bottle always goes to waste... I think the box is a great idea and I may stop and get one!!! I am not picky either!

I agree with the poster who said You've got to know your friends. I have one group of friends who I would give that to in a second........then I have another group who I wouldn't dare. It depends on the people.

If you know your firends are boxed wine lovers, then it's a great gift!

I am not a huge wine drinker, so a box opf wine is actually a better choice for my household because it stays fresher longer. DH, who used to be in the liquor business, actually feels that in general, a decent quality boxed wine is as good as a comparable bottled wine. The bag inside the box is vacuum sealed sort of, so not a lot of air gets into the wine(which is what degrades wine), so it stays fresher.
