My wife works in a pharmacy and a large percentage of their customers are well-off retired people. Many are needy and demanding but there is one that takes the cake.

Yesterday, this person walked back to the pharmacy and there was a line of three people waiting to pay for their prescriptions. So this person walked to the front store and got an Assistant Manager to go back to the pharmacy, get their prescription and check them out at an open register - bypassing the line of people waiting!

No, I believe in waiting my turn. Is there such a thing as a senior snowflake? If so, I think this one has quite the snowballs.

I wouldn't do it- and I am teaching my kids about respecting others' space and time!

What is a snowflake? (Should I know this already?!?!)

A very unique child that no one else can duplicate because they are one of a kind.

Hang around the Dis long enough and you will hear this term frequently. It is an overindulged child who is treated as the center of the universe by his/her parents. The child is not expected to adapt to the world, the world is expected to adapt to the child.

No, I would never do this, but I could see an older person doing this. I swear, the older someone gets, the less patience they have for the niceties of society. LOL

Line cutters really tick me off. What I hate is waiting in a customer service line to ask a question, only to have someone bypass the line to ask their own question -- they'll usually say it's a "quick question," which never ends up being a simple yes or no. As if that's not bad enough, the person helping me will inevitably walk away to deal with the question.

,

"snowballs!" :lmao::lmao:

And yes, I've experienced it. I worked in a pharmacy in high school and after, but our pharmacist was very adept at handling them.

OK-something happened to me at the pharmacy yesterday

You know how =when you are getting your script-there is a line or sign that says "please start line here for customer privacy"?

Well I'm finishing up my purchase and I hear this voice RIGHT behind me saying "I'm Joe Blow-could you get me my script"
I turn and am literally in his face and the funny thing is this man's family is very famous in my state- his brother used to be our Govenor.

So i say "OMG You're Joe Blow? Wow-you're like famous and you buy your meds HERE?"
I'm really gushing to him and he's acting like the typical politician=all puffed up

I rea;lly wanted him to wait back at the sign

It was funny:rotfl:

It is rude, but sometimes seniors come up with some strange ideas. DW has an uncle in his 90s. He wanted to buy some plants from the grocery store--you know how in the summer stores sometimes have houseplants out on the sidewalk. He asked the price (I think it was 5 or 6 bucks) and he said "that's too much, I'll give you a dollar each!" Of course the store clerk said they couldn't do that, so uncle Kenny waited till no one was watching and just took some:eek: It seems this wasn't a one-time occurance and at some point a relative visiting his house discovered quite a number of houseplants being kept in the garage.

So while the pharmacy situation is inappropriate/rude, it's hard to tell what goes through the mind of some folks.:)

I wait my turn.

When I was in high school a older women tried to bypass my line. I noted who was the last person in my line. I finished with the customer who I was helping and then took the one behind her. After finishing with this customer I took the next one. At this point she said I am next in line. I said, "No you are behind the lady in the blue shirts. I will take you after I wait on her." She was so shocked she just stood there and waited her turn. Never heard another peep out of her. BTW this is what our managers told us to do in these situations.

I don't know. If the guy said, "Open a new register and get me my stuff now!," then that would definitely be rude. However, if he said, "Mr. Manager, the line is long. Is there any chance you could open another register?" then I don't have a problem with that. Sometimes pharmacy lines move slowly. Three people could be a 15+ minute line.

In that case, I think the manager should have taken the next person in line. But if the manager took the person who asked next, I think that's more to do with the manager than the customer.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry finds out that his parents steal batteries.

I actually have a bigger problem with the manager than I do with the customer!!

No I would never do this BUT that manager should never have done it either. So the manager is telling the other customers they don't matter as much as this person? If I were them I would have told the manager to take my stuff and put it somewhere and taken my business somewhere else.
The manager was in the wrong!

(trying to cover all bases the only exception and one we don't know is could the customer had a problem that the manager knew and your wife didn't and that is why they were checked out?, but I tend to think it was snowflake customer and spineless manager)

I can think of several elderly people I know who might do that:
  • People with incontinence issues
  • People who physically can't stand for long periods of time because of knee or hip surgeries
  • People who have taxis or rides waiting for them
  • People with blood pressure issues where standing in a long line might make them pass out

I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt rather than automatically assume an adult snowflake behaved badly. The fact that the person discretely went to an Assistant Manager, explained their situation to him/her and the Assistant Manager discretely complied tells me that this might have been one of the above situations.

And therein lies the difference between you and me. I prefer to believe the best of people first and wait to be proven wrong instead of always assuming the worst in people and expecting to be proven right.

Finally someone that makes sense ;) That's the problem we all need to show more respect to our elders.
