Would you do it?

We are visiting HHI for the fist time in August.
We are flying from Dallas to Savannah/HHI airport. I just happened to check the flights from to Atlanta, and they are about half the points than flying to Savannah/HHI!

We were planing on renting a car either way. I'm just not sure about having to drive 4 hours after our flight! There's 3 drivers !

Would you do it to save like 50, 000 points ?

Which Airline? I have delta SkyMiles and 500 points is hardly anything and definitely wouldn't drive 4 hours for 500 points 🤣

If 100 points = 100 dollars, so essentially saving 500 dollars in flights, I would strongly consider, however, I'm on vacation and would probably rather spend the points as a convenience fee to get me closer to the destination.

Will the flight to atlanta get you in earlier in the day? Are they shorter flights? Those are also considerations for me.

Either way, enjoy the vacation. I've never been to HHI, but I've heard good things.

Not a chance. As someone said in the SW thread, 500 points is like $8.50. Burn the points.

SW, it's actually 50,000 points

I’d fly to Savannah. Can’t fly out of the country right now anyway. I’m sitting on a pile of vouchers and points that I haven’t been able to use... Burn ‘em. HHI is great, relaxing. Just get there. Don’t add undue stress.

That's what I was thinking also

Oh haha, that’s definitely different than 500. If you can get two trips between the new rate and saved rate, I would do it. What’s better than 1 free flight? Why, 2 of course! 😁

The extra drives not fun, but maybe see if there’s something you’ve wanted to do on the way to make it worth it.

Personal opinion: Save the points. Why? If points are somewhat equal to Delta: I flew from DTW to San Antonio for 30,000 points and to MCO from DTW for 25,000. Both were round trips. This would mean you could get almost two additional trips with 50K points. I would drive and have additioanl trip flights using those points. However, this is what would work best for me/us. May not be the same for you.

The only thing I can add is the traffic in Atlanta is a nightmare ( getting in, out and around the city ). That in itself would make me fly all the way to Savannah. Jacksonville, as someone else mentioned, would be a good choice if those flights are discounted.

Atlanta is one of, if not the busiest airports in the world. I realize its probably better now with no international flights, but would still be significantly busier than the Savannah/HHI airport. I would much rather deal with the less busy airport with less traffic AND not have to contend with a 4 hour drive both going to and coming from the destination. Its always my preference to pay for convenience, especially if it helps maximize my time on vacation which is always limited.

Yes! We drove home from Destin last week and going through the Atlanta area was horrible! I would avoid that if possible.

If 50k points is worth upwards of $800 in flights then definitely something to consider.

First thing I’d think about is what the extra time is worth. Is it going to cause us to need another day off work or be tired out to enjoy arrival day in HH? Also 8 hours driving may be an extra $100 in gas.

Only if we had good buffers of time surrounding our trip would I do it. Then I like the above suggestion. Find some points of interest along the routes to make the road trip portion more exciting and worthwhile.

Have you looked into flying directly to Hilton Head Island?

No, I'd rather not end the trip with a super busy airport followed by a 4-hour drive out of high-traffic Atlanta.
