Would you do it??

We took our second trip to WDW back in June and went to DisneyQuest for the first time. My ds10 loved it! Well his bday is coming up in October and we are thinking about surprising him with a long weekend trip back down to Orlando just for DisneyQuest. We live in Alabama and it's about a 9 1/2 hour drive....I was thinking we could leave Friday...be there Sat and Sun...and drive home on Monday.

My dd9 has had a bday party every year. But ds hasn't had one for the last two years. He has wanted to take a friend and go camping instead. He's not the social bug that she is. While I know he has been the one to decide on something small to do the last few years I feel like its time he got a big bday event.

I just don't know if it would be worth it to just be there for two days and wanted to get some feedback from you guys.

Do it. You will never look back and say " I wish we hadn't spent the time and money to take our son on a special trip to WDW."

If you dont mind the traveling, then you should do it.

Me, I HATE road trips LOL! If I'm going to drive a long ways (5 hours or more), then I'm going to stay for at least 5 days. I just hate being in the car and traveling. I love it once I get there, but I'm just not a traveler. So personally, I probably would not do it, just due to the road trip. Now if you dont mind the road trip, then you should totally do it!

I'm glad that we only live 2.5 hours from Disney, or else we may rarely go there LOL!

I think it would be better to do what he has suggested and let him invite a friend to go camping with you. If you go on the DisneyQuest trip for his birthday, you will be setting the birthday bar very high. Not only will he expect something like it again the following year, but SO will your daughter even though she has a big party every year. She will just keep on you about how you gave him the DisneyQuest trip for his birthday and she is just having a party. So, NO I say don't do it for a birthday trip.

I would save DisneyQuest and Downtown Disney for another time when you have a few days and what to take the family for a Disney fix!! Then you can justify it as a family trip (no ties to birthdays or just one child).

Yes, I would do it.

There is nothing wrong with doing different things for different children within the same family. Each child will feel special and know that you took their likes and dislikes into account.

I know that I would have been bored to tears if my parents did the exact same thing for me as they did with my db, and he would not enjoy going on a trip to go shopping.

We've done that! We are also in Alabama, and we took our son for a 3 day weekend just so he could spend his birthday at DisneyQuest. (We did the same thing for my birthday, except the primary reason for mine was the Adventurers Club!) My son still talks about it and says it was his best birthday ever.
