Would you cruise solo?

In a moment of aggravation, I announced to my family to shape up or I'll go cruising by myself!! ::yes:: Which started me thinking, given the opportunity, would you cruise by yourself?

Yeah, I would definitely do it! I would enjoy the dining rotations etc enough as a time to be with people and then I could finally take some of the excursions that I can't convince anyone else to do.

although, with these boards you probably wouldn't ever *have* to be alone if you wanted to make plans to connect with others.

Plus, if you have any friends or other family (cousins, aunts, etc) you could offer them a "bargain cruise" by only making them pay the difference in what it would cost for two people in a room than one person -- once they tried it they'd be hooked.

Hope your family shapes up though!

Hope all is well with your family, but to answer your question: ABSOLUTELY!

Would cruise any way I could get it. :hyper: :boat: :hyper:

Have a wonderful time.

I would and will in about 5 weeks. This will be my 2nd solo cruise and hope there will be plenty more in my future even though i love going with my DH. I hope your family gets it together as it would be a shame for them to have to hear about all the fun they missed. Bon voyage :boat:

I think I could cruise by myself too. (The family is fine, by the way, just a matter of two teenagers with a serious case of "life isn't fair" when things don't go their way.) I may stay on Castaway Cay and live there until they are through their growing pains. :)

Absolutely! This time my parents are on the same cruise so I'm sure I'll see them around. However I made the decision when I was divorced that I'm going to do things that I want to do and not let being single hold me back. Go for it!

I could cruise by myself - But the only thing is that you still have to pay the double rate -

I would, but my wife would kill me!

I was *almost* going to cruise solo, sort of, this January. I'm cruising with a bunch of others from another group. Originially, I was supposed to bring my nephew, however his report card at the end of the school year brought the news that he wouldn't be able to go. Then, after an incredible growth this summer, my brother changed his mind and is allowing him to go. So, for 2-3 months, I was planning on going solo and was looking forward to it. Someone mentioned that you had to pay double, and that's nearly true. For a single person you get 25% off the price for 2. Not a big savings, but I'd still go!!

Yes, if I could afford the double fare.
My mom does it all the time on Celebrity and NCL, but she finds these crazy rates, last one was the the Celebrity Mercury for $399 per person for 7 days. So even at double rate she paid $798.
DD will be 14 soon, and grandma is on the look out for another "cheap" cruise when she is out of school. DD will go for free since grandma would have to pay double fare anyway.

I did in May 2004
and will again in November 2004
and December 2004
and in May 2005
and in November 2005

unless you count a dog as traveling with a partner......

But he has to pack his own food....

Although I really admire people who can travel solo, I don't think I could. I think it has to do with what kind of personality you have. I tend to keep to myself and take a while before I get to know people. In a word I'm more of an intrevert. I think I would feel lonley being at a place where I usually go with my family. I don't think I could enjoy it alone. A big part of my enjoyment comes from sharing it with them and watching them enjoy it.

Having said that, I work with several middle aged single people who constantly travel solo and all seem to love it. So again, I think it depends on how outgoing you are.

I had to laugh when I read your reply because it makes me an oxy moron! ;) People would describe me as being more like you, an intrevert, than an outgoing person. That being said, I've come to enjoy my time on vacation, even if I am alone. My solo trip to WDW was my first completely alone trip and I absolutely loved it. I forced myself to talk with people, simple questions started the conversation and we'd have a nice chat. Of course, if you told me three years ago I'd be doing solo trips, I'd have wet my pants laughing at you. It's all Walt Disney's fault!! :p I finally found a place I felt safe to travel to alone and have met some wonderful people, on the DISboards, other internet groups and at WDW and on the cruise ships.

I have cruised alone..my very first, this past March, on Royal Caribbean. I loved it! However, I would not cruise alone on DCL unless I won the lottery. They charge something like 175% of the double occupany rate. You are almost paying for a second person to be there, so you might as well have the company! RCCL didn't charge much extra for my solo cruise.

I have done WDW, DL and DLP alone and loved all of those trips. I don't mind travelling alone at all....as long as I can afford it (well, I can never really afford it!)

I have vacationed solo off and on for the last 10 years or so. I started at WDW and then branched out to DCL. You never know who you will meet.

The crew are wonderful if they see you alone and make you feel not alone anymore. My greatest fear on DCL was meals but being only one person when I wanted to change to eat with the others I met, it was no problem. Travelling solo gives you a great amount of flexibility.

As for the extra cost - I found out that I could travel alone in Cat 11 for about the same price of sharing the Cat 6. And I was never in the room to use the verandah so I didn't miss it.

Last Sept I met a nice group of people and we ended up having so much fun together and were so compatible that we vacation together this September (not a Disney vacation either).

I have two cruises lines up right now and if no one decides to join me I'll go solo again.

If I could afford to, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

I've done one solo mini-vacation and it was the greatest thing. No one to answer to, no one to compromise with, no one to complain. Do whatever you want whenever you want to.

I would.

I have gone to WDW by myself when my DW has gone to meetings in Orlando and had fun.
