Would you cruise solo?

Ok, so I already have a 3-day planned with family members for next month and a 7-day cruise planned for August with friends, but I am looking to get away for a week in May. Originally my sister was going to come, but it's looking more and more like she is going to be involved in an internship and won't be able to come. Work has been extremely stressful lately and will be until mid-april. I have gone alone for a 4-day before and was fine, but will a 7-day be a little too much? I'm thinking of either going on the May 8th western or the May 29th eastern. I am in my mid 20's and I love Disney - so another cruise line is not even a thought in my mind right now. Would you go alone? Would you feel wierd going to dinner alone? Any input would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

If given the opportunity to go solo, I'd definately take it. It is great to go with friends, family, or spouse, but going solo definately offers opportunities that you would not be able to enjoy. Rent a scooter and explore the islands, (be very careful though), check out the off the beaten path kind of places, meet different people. I know they have get togethers with ones who are traveling alone. I say go for it.

I have cruised DCL 3 times alone and once with my nephew (aside from the fact that we were sick for the majority of the trip) I liked cruising alone much better, it gave me freedom to do what I wanted, plus I met great people at the dinners. Dont worry go for it!

I did my first solo cruise about 2 yrs ago(7day Golden Princess) and let me just say it was great. I inform my DH that i'll be running away again in Dec. for Mousefest(Sea/Land)with additional days added on at WDW. I will say i got to know more people on that cruise. Many goodbyes as i was on the phone with my DH at the airport. I got lucky also as i met many of the people i've talk to on a cruise board and got to know more of the crew than ever before plus on the first night i ate in there alternate diniing location and the cruise director came by and we talked for about 30 minute plus a dance. I say start packing and GO GO GO and don't look back.:moped::boat::cool1:

I did my first solo cruise in June 2003 on a four day RCCL, and left my guys at home. I hate to say it, but this was probably the best cruise of all! I truly did everything and anything I wanted to do without Mom this, Mom that. I know that sounds selfish. I had just lost my mother to cancer a couple months before, and I was the only caretaker while she was sick, so i really needed this trip, and it did me a lot of good to go.

I have another solo trip in January 2005 on Orient Lines, and am looking forward to that as well.

I say go for it!

Before DH and I got married I would often travel by myself. I wouldn't hesitate to sail with DCL by myself.

Once you decide on a cruise join the thread on the cruise meet board. Maybe you can find someone you connect with and can link dining reservations with them. Then you know at dinner you
'll have something in common with your tablemates (the DIS).

I've met some really wonderful people on our 12/18 thread and can't wait to meet them all in person (I've already got to meet some of them).

Personally, I don't think I'd go solo (actually, I don't think my husband would be so happy about me traveling alone). BUT, I would sail with DISr friends.

In fact, I would LOVE to cruise MouseFest 2004, but DH can't get out of school and none of my friends or family would be willing to go.

I can picture it now, my youngest has 5 more years till college.

Packing for one, no cooking, no driving, no waiting for someone else to get ready, no sharing the bathroom.

Plus, tablemates, organized excursions, plenty to do on board, plenty of friends onboard (DISers).

Sign me up now! Fall of 2009 I'll be going solo, is it too soon to book?

I've been considering this as well. I hope you go. Think of all the uninterrupted reading you could do!

I would go alone for sure....I would book a catagory 6 so I could sit out and enjoy my verandah and read a book if I felt like kicking back.....one year I went to the Bahamas by myself for 9 days....just 9 days of hanging by the pool, sitting on the beach, eating when I wanted to not by anyone elses schedual....it was really nice, I wouldn't hesitate to take a cruise alone...of course now that my daughter is here I have many many years before a solo trip can be taken again LOL....

Absolutely - don't even hesitate...

I booked solos in September and met some absolutely WONDERFUL people in the parking lot. We were friends by the time we reached the terminal and I had a FABULOUS time. I ended up changing my dining arrangements so I could join them at their table (which was already filled but the dining room staff made room for me). I never was made to feel like an outsider and I made new friends that I hear from regularly.

The few times I was by myself (mostly breakfast and sea days lunch) the crew was attentive, offered suggestions and recommendations so that I would not be uncomfortable being by myself and would not miss anything.

I re-booked for another solo trip before I got off the ship. Now that may change as my "new cruise friends" say I can't go on a cruise without them.

GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!

I'd go alone in a heartbeat. The only downside I can see to travelling solo is the "single supplement" that you pay. It is so steep (175%) of the normal fare that it might be worth your while to invite a friend. However, I like the freedom of flying solo!

No, you won't feel weird at dinner. You will definitely be seated at a table with others. Even when I've travelled with family, I've gone to meals, etc. solo at times. It's not an issue at all.

You betcha!
May 16 Wonder and December 18 (10-day Magic)....Just me and Cash, the Wonder Dog...

A crusin' we will go, a crusin' we will go...It's worth the single supplement to hear the big horns blow....
HA! Worked my way out of THAT one!

when I went solo last June, I got a last minute special on RCCL. For an ocean view porthole room, the total cost was $610 (this included the single supplement) for four days, so I thought that was a pretty good price for sure. Of course, I am spoiled by balcony rooms, but since it was just me, this seemed to work out well.

Thank you all for your responses. I really appreciate getting the different views on this. I did look into taking the 7-day cruise solo and found out that the price is about the same whether it is one or two people. I talked to one of my good friends (we have been friends since we were 4!!!) who is dying to go on a cruise and wants to come in my sister's place. She has never been on a cruise before and is so excited to go on the Magic! We're still trying to decide whether to go May 8th or May 29th - it will depend on our work schedules. I am so happy!!!! I'm sure I'll go solo one of these days...but for now, I'm happy to share a bit of Disney with a good friend!!!
