Would you change from Kona to Ohana for dinner?

Eatten at both and I like Ohana better. More of a family type atmosphere, can be loud and hectic, so sometimes service can be a bit slow but we have always enjoyed the food. We tried Kona last yr and besides the desserts were not impressed..

When is your trip when you will be staying at Boardwalk? I can't wait for our trip...we actually leave several days before we arrive at Disney because we are driving down from NY, plus we are visiting my uncle, and some of my mom's friends in Southern Florida before Disney...and it is now 99 days away!!! Can't believe we are in the double digits already!

We are split stay freaks, so we always have several resorts in our trips - LOL! SSR, AKV and then we will be at BWV July 9-12 (on waitlist for 8th).

That's funny, we check into BWV on July 13th! DH and I prefer to stay at the same resort the whole 10 nights, and just relax on the days we aren't going to the parks. You know, a couple of more spontaneous days, except for dinner ADRs of course! We have a few options...enjoying different activities at BWV, going to DTD, etc. It's nice not to be on a schedule every single day, and nice knowing we can sleep in a couple of times without sacrificing precious park time!

I will definitely continue having fun planning this trip! I feel like I have done almost everything at this point though. I have been working on the park touring plan more and more, but I remember all of my strategies from last time and I have that document saved as well. I'm a complete planning nerd, but we didn't wait in any long lines last time and I intend to have as smooth a trip this time!

Ohana was always one of my family's absolute favorites but we had a bad experience there in November. All the meat was undercooked and the quaility of everything was not up to par. We also go to Kona every visit (sometimes twice/visit) and have never been disappointed. As far as the food goes my vote would definitely be for Kona but if you are looking for the entertainment for the kids I would say Ohana.

Keep the reservation at Kona! I love both restaurants, but Kona may be my absolute favorite. 'Ohana is admittedly more fun for kids, but you have scheduled a bunch of character meals for that purpose. Kona is casual but a bit quieter, and the food is fantastic.

We changed from Kona to Ohana last October only because there were a bunch of us and thought that would be more fun atmosphere and many choice of different grilled meat, and it was fun. If it would have been only me and DW we would have stayed with Kona. Kona does have great food.

We did both our last trip and everyone in our party, 4 adults, 1 kid, preferred Ohana. Our DD who was 2 loved the entertainment and we loved the food. She is fairly picky and ate pretty well; she likes noodles and veggies so she was all set. It may be hit or miss but our meat was cooked perfectly for our liking we’d go back even without DD. We'd also go back to Kona though.

We have been going to Ohana for years, and one of our three boys is a very picky eater! They have childrens' items at no extra charge (meaning you pay the $14.99 and children can eat the regular menu items or order kids' items, too.) In the past, they offered the kids' items automatically, but when we were there earlier this month, we had to ask. We got mac and cheese and chicken fingers with fries, I think, but they had many other items for kids.

I have never been to Kona, and we have always loved Ohana. So it's tough for me to say anything negative about Ohana - the salad, bread, potstickers, wings and dessert are outstanding. That's enough for me! But the meats have not been so good lately. While we love the appetizers and desserts, the $30 per adult (and we have pre-teens who qualify as "Disney adults") is quite a bit. Our youngest (a pre-schooler) LOVES the coconut races, limbo, etc., but our older boys are not into that anymore. So we have been considering Kona as an alternative - looks like they have the potstickers and wings!

But OP, at ages 3 and 5, it was great fun! So if you haven't been, this might be a good time to try it.

Couldn't agree more with this! My family also loves 'Ohana...the limbo and coconut races are so much fun and adorable to watch!

And there are no characters at dinner...that's only breakfast at 'Ohana...

We have eaten at both and would choose Ohana everytime.
Kids loved the fun atmosphere there and a wall of windows gives a great view of the castle, especially if you time it right with the fireworks.
Found the food to be good in both locations. However, we did not care for the location of Kona and the fish bowl feel since it is open to the full view of everyone who walks through the 2nd level of the Great Ceremonial House.

Thanks everyone for your input! DH and I decided to stick with Kona. We already have 3 character dinners, one character lunch and 2 character breakfasts planned. Plus we have lunch at Sci-Fi, a lunch at 50s Prime Time, and a dinner at Whispering Canyon. We thought about it, and Kona is a place where they will actually eat since it is more low-key. The food also looks great and it may end up being less expensive than Ohana, depending on what we order of course. So we're definitely going with Kona.

I think you're making the right decision, also. The food at Kona is SOOOO much better than at Ohana (in my opinion). And, after hitting the parks all day, we all enjoy having a table service meal where we are NOT entertained, but instead can just sit and enjoy one another!!

We love both but I would agree with others that say 'Ohana will be more entertaining for the kids.
