Have you ever had a person go above and beyond for you?

I mean have you been out and about looking for a pin and out of the blue you get it with out much trouble. Not from a good friend but from a stranger... Someone who you just met or ran in to at a pin meet. Sorta like a reverse CCT Moment... Or has someone you know gone way out of there way to make sure you got the pin you needed?

Well, I don't know if this qualifies, but here goes....

It was the evening of Dec. 1, 2000. After a crazy morning...standing in line at WOD early for both the Dec. pom and a mystery pin (the Pluto Dangle), I was finally able to get the pins. For those of you who weren't there, the WOD folk were totally unorganized...they lost vouchers for the pins and practically had a riot on their hands. After several hours, my family gave up and left me to fend for myself but I muddled through. Anyway, that evening we went to the Magic Kingdom (it might have been MVMCP...Olds Timers is setting in). As we were leaving, I saw a pin person that I recognised. It was Lori (Tink129) and her son Dean. We had met briefly several months before at the NYC meet. We chatted for a minute and then got on to the business of trading pins. She was interested in a Pluto Mystery pin. I looked at her book and there was the WDW PTP (I think this was the original "Holy Grail"...the most desirable pin when trading first started at WDW). I had always coveted this pin, but never thought my traders were worthy. I pointed to it, sighed, and said something pitiful like "I guess I'll never have that pin," and began to turn the page. Well, to my great surprise (and to make a long story short) Lori traded the pin to me....and Dean "pinned" me!!! I was so excited and happy and surprised and touched all at the same time. I was beaming from ear to ear! Thanks again Lori!!

During the August 2001 Epcot Pin Event, in the most famous "mercy trade" of all times, Nat traded to me the infamous 1999 Round Food & W(h)ine Plate pin.

I have another story, but have been sworn to secrecy. It concerns a certain red, white and blue pin. You know who you are and I thank you again. That pin is very special to me!!

I just started pin trading back in october and just like everybody that's starting I got nothing good to trade (which was really depressing).

Long story short met a really nice CM, hung out for awhile after he's done with his shift to trade with his personal pin collection. I ended up trading a state pin and a NYE pin for 2 of his CM pins and a Pooh event pin that I really really want. To say the least those 3 pins will always be in my permanent collection...

I still grin from ear to ear whenever I think of that wonderful moment...hehehe...

The pin I wanted was the Keys to the Kingdom tour pin. We had gone on the tour the year before with Marion and it was the most memorable time. It ended up being an 8 hour tour with many stories and laughs. This past December I spied the pin on Scoops lanyard. I didn't have much to trade, but he graciously said that he would love to trade me for it. Now that was certainly a mercy trade of all time. I cherish that pin and the wonderful memories it brings back of the tour and of Scoop every time I look at it. THANKS Scoop!

On one of my trips to Disney World - perhaps only the second or third time I was there to trade - i realized I was not very good at it.

I kind of stood back and watched all the trading happen.

We ventured into the Magic Kingdom one morning. We ran into Scoop and he ask how our trading was going. He ask if there was anything out there that I really wanted and had not been able to get. I said I would love an Olympic Spirit pin. He reached in his personal collection and gave me this pin - not traded for it - just gave it to me.

It was a wonderful surprise and a Magic Moment for me.

We were in the pin lines for the hat series pins.

I ran into Joe from the Dapper Dans. I ask him if he had a Wet Paint pin. He said he did and he told me what he wanted for it.

I misunderstood what he said, but we agreed to catch up with each other in another line somewhere and he had the Wet Paint pin with him.

I gave him the pin that I thought he said he wanted - and then I realized that I had the wrong pin, but he was so nice to me and traded the pin with me for the Wet Paint anyway.

I spent the next couple of days trying to find the pin he wanted. It was another hat series pin and i made a trade for it. I went and found Joe and gave him the pin he really wanted because he was so nice to me.

I've been very fortunate but the one that is the most recent is when my DS friend lost
my Starry Nights Cruise pin...I put out a call on the pin trading board and Parkhopper responded...sent the pin off and just told me to mail him something.....HOLYCOW!
I trembled trying to think of what I would have to send him that he could possibly want!

but Robyn has been very helpful to me over the months as she has taken pity on my more than once. Sometimes just getting a pin at all when you are far away from the action is such a high. Robyn has gone above and beyond for me on several occasions, including letting me share her body for a Parkhopper pin event.


But I would also say that Ruthie-Ramva has sent me good pin karma as well, helping me along with one of my first pins for this year.

As a small fish I would just like to say thanks to all you who have helped me out with pin trades and good thoughts. There are many special people on these boards and I am happy to know some of them.

I want to thank an anonymous pin trader for helping me when I was working on the "My First" set in April of 2001.We were on vacation at WDW and went to Epcot in the late afternoon to check out the pin traders. I had an extra My First Tigger to trade and was looking for a My First Goofy to help finish the set. An experienced regular trader at Epcot had a Goofy in his trading book, but turned the My First Tigger trade down. Another local, frequent trader observed the incident and offered the guy with the My First Goofy a trade he knew he was looking for - the Dragon pin from the Electrical Light Parade for his My First Goofy. Then he proceeded to trade the Goofy to me for the Tigger I had. I was overwhelmed and estatic. He was thoughtful and generous in his assistance to me, and I will always remember his help. Mostly I feel intimidated by the big time traders we see at Epcot or DTD with their stacks and stacks of books full of pins to trade ( or for us small fish to admire - because of course they have all the pins that we have to offer). But... occasionally I have found a trader amongst the sharky ones that are willing to help out a smaller fish from out of town. In honesty, though, in my experience, that type of helpful trader is a rariety. I have had much more success trading over the internet (on these boards and Pinpics) for specific pins than I have had trying to trade in person at WDW with other guests or traders. Trading with CM's of course is great fun, unless all the lanyards are the same. But.. I will always remember this one trader's help, and keep his thoughtfulness in mind when others approach me for a trade.( pass it on)

I have two if I may. Last year I was looking for the torch from 1999 the annual pass holder pin. I found some one who had this pin and when ask what he wanted for it , he looked at my book and I would have gladly traded a Small world E ticket pin for it. He told me that it was just taking up space and he gave it to me. His first name is Harold. Truly a first class man.

The second one happened this year in Jan. I A very dear friend of ours got and gave me the security guard pin from 2000. This friend is none other than everyones pin buddy, Scoops. Thank you very much.

I have to put in a huge THANKS to Peggie (Mickey 527), Leslie (Beauty LLM), and Shirly 38. During the first pin swap, my 8 yr old daughter's pin never arrived. I contacted Peggie, and she put out the word to Leslie and Shirley, and they each sent pins to my daughter. She was thrilled with the pins that came, and I was thrilled that these wonderful people would help out someone they had never met. I ran into Leslie at the American Adventures pincart a while back, but Shirley and Peggie are still just e-pals. I hope I get to thank them in person some day.
