I would buy it, but I really buy things just to have them. Expiring items/magic makes me angry. I would still have to buy it and see what I get out of it.
I second that, word for word.

I would like to win some, they never said ANYTHING about having to buy it.

That is true, they never say anything specific. I am asking about specificly if it was sold, and the general opinion on the idea in advance of finding out what there intent is. They never said buying wasn't in their mind and we had all previously though treasure finder and magic carpet would be sold or quest and would be permenant. It's all guess work. Other then magic from a game, I probably would not concern myself with one time use magic from a quest or host game. I do have some concern about the idea presented that some quests might require one time use magic, but we are just kicking it around for thoughts.

I voted I would buy the magic if it was sold, IRL we buy food then one second after it is gone or quite so why not buy one time use items in a game :p

I don't really care.. I MAY consider buying it if you can maybe use it once and you still own it just can't use it so you can show it off. yet that would still be kinda pointless. :P

Single Use Items. First let me say I'm trying to hold judgement until I see the final product and use/execution of the product. So I haven't voted in the poll yet. But to throw in my two-cents worth of speculation:

When I very first joined VMK I was disappointed in magic like teleportation. It has a nifty looking effect, but didn't actually do anything. For example you can't teleport to places you can't walk. You can't teleport up to the top of Tom Sawyer's Island or across a single-space bridge on which someone is standing afk (Forbidden Temple anyone?). I've often thought it would be great to teleport around someone who was blocking your path. But no, it's just a spiffy effect.

If new one-shot magic has an actual effect on the game then I would consider it Useful. Examples might be if it were required for a quest, lets you go to a special place alah space-suit magic to Inner Space, or gives you something you can keep like credits, a costume, etc.

I would spend 500-1000 credits for Useful one-shot magic. I would love to get it as a game reward or host prize. Again - if Useful as defined above.

If the new one-shot magic were just something flashy like nearly all the current magics... then I would agree with a previous writer and refer to it as "trash" magic.

Paying credits for Trash magic? I might spend 25-100 for a funny or cool one-shot effect, but certainly no more than that!

Trash magic as game rewards? Well, I don't know... We used to get permanent magic from Pirates, and still get it from Fireworks. Why downgrade to trash magic? But then again, if we got them as frequently as we got, say Blue Typhoon crates, then maybe that could be fun. So long as they were strictly a bonus on top of whatever credits we currently get. Yeah, I think I would like that.

Trash magic for Host Events? I can't think why I'd want that at all. As difficult as it is to get into and stay in a Host room long enough to collect whatever prize they're giving away, I want something permanent!

I can't imagine I'd want any kind of one-shot expiring magic (Useful or Trash) given out as the only prize for an In-Game Quest, unless we could retake that quest over and over again, or at least take the quest once a day. As a reward for an In-Park Quest? No way! I pay real world money to go to a park to take a quest, I want to keep what I get to show off that I went to the park!

I can see that magic doesn't get used much in VMK. Why not? I could only guess why others don't use it, but I know why *I* don't. For one, use of magic tends to attract the dc monster. For another, I'm limited in space on the amount of pins I can wear.

I know they are addessing the latter, and that alone will get me to wear and use my magic more often. Especially when I've got plenty of permanent magic already. 13 different pins (3x cars, space & diving suits, 3x Kelloggs, bat, snowman, fireworks, teleport, ghost), and some I have duplicates of. And if I ever get Inferno and Green Car I'd have 15, enough to fill up the new Lanyards! :wizard:

And besides all that - what's being done to ward of that dc monster? Here's a catch22 for you: Anti-dc Monster Magic. Use more magic, get more dc. Use more Anti-dc Monster Magic to block the dc... but if you use it more, it increases the chance of the dc it's supposed to stop! :rotfl:

Adding an expiration date to magic to "force" me to use it, well... That's more likely to get me to not want it in the first place.

So, yeah, I've rambled enough on speculation. Again... I'll just have to wait and see what comes out and hope it's good! :teeth:

I don't like it at all. I just don't see the point of it unless it's like treasure detector magic and you miight win something but then isn't that just a like gambling and if they are going to do that then why not slot machines :rotfl:!!

Woot slot machines....oops I mean that would just be wrong.
BTW don't we have those already as random number generators, and that one time use traesure finder better come up with some good stuff. lol
