Would you buy a slightly "used" oven?

Except for the fact that the people who owned the house didn't return the stove! That makes it different for me. I would be concerned as to why someone returned the stove after cooking in it. If it was merely missing a piece of trim, why wouldn't they just get that piece replaced from the manufacturer? Especially if they had already gone to the trouble of installing it and cooking with it before noticing it? (I'm assuming if they had noticed it when it came out of the box, that they would probably have sent it back before it was installed or at least used?) The trim story sounds a little iffy to me.

As a person who has been a seller on Ebay for a long time, I have first hand experience with how really strange people are. And there are a lot of people who are just not very honest. It doesn't surprise me at all that someone would return a stove over trim or use it as an excuse to return a stove after using it.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a used stove no matter what the original price was. I just spent $945 on a stainless whirlpool with a smooth top and a double oven because I double (maybe tripled?) dipped all the crazy specials lowes was offering.

They say it is the trim. Or they say she said it was the trim. But what if it was something different. What if she broke it then said it was trim because she was afraid they wouldn't take it back?

Yes, we did. We bought a house in '08 that we intend to live in eventually but its rented out atm. It had other appliances but not a stove, so we bought a used one and have had no complaints (about that!) from the tenants. Go for it, if it works and you save some $$ that's a great deal!

I was in lowes today and saw an amazing kitchenaid oven. It was marked down to $725 from $2049 To my surprise, when I opened the oven to inspect it, it was obviously used. The glass top looked brand new. My question is would you buy it knowing that it had been used to save a lot of $$ or would you find an oven that is new, and not as amazing, for the $725. Here is a link to the range.

If you are NOT going to buy it, can you tell me which store it is in? Cause I'll cancel my order and go get that one if it's close enough to pick up!

Actually looked at a couple of the mark downs and they didn't have anything that nice for such a huge discount at my stores. Plus, they were banged in, missing parts, etc.

If it is just soiled then it would be mine.

An electric range is pretty simple. You already know the glasstop is not damaged. When you plug it in, you'll be able to check the controls, oven, elements, etc. And for that price it should be self cleaning! Is it induction?

If you do decide to buy it...

Remember, it's on the floor out of the box, that means price is much more negotiable. I'd go back and say "I really want the stove, but my spouse is worried able buying a used item. He said I could buy it for $600." See what they say!

I am going to say no. I wouldn't buy it. If someone went through the hassle of buying, installing and then actually using the oven, then having it uninstalled and returned, there is more than trim wrong with that oven. The original owner probably knew about the warranty and either did or did not avail himself of it.

I wouldnt take the chance, only because I wouldnt want to go through the hassle of dealing with the warranty.

If you go to the post office and pick up one of their "Mover's Guides", you will find a 10% off coupon at Lowe's.

And, yes, I would love a deal like that!

I spoke with the store manager and he lowered the price to $600. With the original price of $2049 it is a 71% discount. After tax it is a $1573 savings off of the original retail price. It will come with the full 1 year factory warranty and I will be purchasing the extended warranty directly through kitchenaid I forget the price but for a total of 5 years it will be around $200. I am picking it up on Saturday.

In my experience with Lowes these coupons will not wrk on clearance or marked down items...but I will have one with me to try.

good deal! and yes i would buy a used stove if it came with a warranty for that kind of discount. since it sat for days others obviously had reservations about buying it which is what may have made them further discount it. i would personally take used in good condition over new and really banged up.

there could be a million lame reasons why the person actually returned it. many people shop at stores like this knowing they have the liberal return policy and buy something and test it out, then make an excuse to return it. it seems like a lot of work but if delivery was free they may have thought, well why not take it for a spin?:rolleyes1

I would buy it but then I'm a person that bought a used GE Profile convection range worth $2,000 for $250 on Craigslist.

How long does the warranty have left on it? In some cases the warranty covers 1 year or more parts but not labor. Sometimes the labor is protection is as little as 90 days. Check with your credit card company. Some credit cards will double your manufacturers warranty as long as it came from an authorized dealer. Talk to the manager, if it is just the trim, they should not have a problem offering you the ability to return the stove in case it is something else. I would buy it. It sounds like a sales error and they had to eat the piece. If there was something internal, whirlpool would have come out and fixed it, otherwise they would give Lowe's a Return Authorization number to send it back to the factory. It would never go back on the floor.

So I went to get the oven today...the store manager was not there but the assistant manager was. He rang me up and then asked if I wanted the extended warranty for $150 cheaper than the cost from kitchenaid.
Price breakdown
$600 oven
$149 (4 yr extended warranty plus 1 yr manufacturer total 5 yrs)
Tax
$815 total. Not bad for an oven that is $2200 plus warranty retail. It is bein installed tomorrow. I will try to post a picture.
