Would you buy a slightly "used" oven?

I was in lowes today and saw an amazing kitchenaid oven. It was marked down to $725 from $2049 To my surprise, when I opened the oven to inspect it, it was obviously used. The glass top looked brand new. My question is would you buy it knowing that it had been used to save a lot of $$ or would you find an oven that is new, and not as amazing, for the $725. Here is a link to the range.

Yes

Saw the same thing at Lowes today (although I was looking at washers/dryers). There was no one around to ask about warranties, but assuming it did come with the warranty, I would go for it.

To me it's no different than buying a house with the stove included. :confused3

Yes, in a heart beat!

If it comes with the warranty then absolutely.

This is a great perspective. I hadn't thought about it this way
I asked about purchasing an extended warranty and the associate said no. I then asked about the balance of the original manufacturers warranty and the associate said I would get the balance of the 1 year from purchase. I am going to call kitchenaid tomorrow to find out if the serial number to see if it had ever been registered. I am assuming either way if lowes is selling it that it would be eligible for the warranty. I am going to pursue it in the morning. I love the range. As the above poster - if you bought a house with an oven in it... :)

Reminds me of a Tightwad Gazette (if you never read it, it's awesome) column in which Amy (the author) was responding to a reader who'd written criticizing her for saying she bought her family's bedsheets at garage sales (because apparently there are super deals because ...) because the reader thought it was gross to sleep on used sheets. Amy was like 'ever stay in a hotel?'

I'd check specifically into the warranty details but then sure if it's a great deal and one you want.

For me no, if there is no warranty. The reason is that in my experience appliances often get damaged in the moving process. We've taken two refrigerators from friends in the past and in the process of moving them out of one house to another they ended up broken. Granted, these were older appliances, but it still makes me wary.

I would buy it as long as it was the range that I wanted or could live with and it had a good warranty.

I agree with this. As long as there is some sort of protection against it not working, I'd go for it.

Ok update: it will come with the original manufacturers warranty. Lowes will not sell me the extended warranty. According to the associate I spoke with it was returned because the owner believed the oven was missing a piece of trim ( it wasn't missing ). Lowes has a very liberal return policy. They will discount it to $700.

Do you love it? Does it have the features that you want? If yes, then buy it.

I find it odd that they won't sell you an extended warranty. Up to you, but I bet if you asked a manager they would. Those things are mostly gravy for them.

Except for the fact that the people who owned the house didn't return the stove! That makes it different for me. I would be concerned as to why someone returned the stove after cooking in it. If it was merely missing a piece of trim, why wouldn't they just get that piece replaced from the manufacturer? Especially if they had already gone to the trouble of installing it and cooking with it before noticing it? (I'm assuming if they had noticed it when it came out of the box, that they would probably have sent it back before it was installed or at least used?) The trim story sounds a little iffy to me.

I would check with the manfacturer and make sure that the warranty is still good if the stove has been returned to the store once. I would also make sure that you are allowed to return it to the store if you get it home and it doesn't seem to work properly.

See if another manager will give you an extended warranty? Different shift managers may give you different answers. I know at my Target the evening manager is much tighter than the day shift one. I've even actually gone in and ended up having coffee with her on her break. Shes very nice.

It doesn't hurt to ask.

Yes, no question!! If I could find a deal like that on a dryer I'd be in heaven! :)
