Would You Book A Flight If Your Seats Weren't All Together?

DH wants to do a "last minute" travel . . .which I am practically totally against . . .because the plane seats are not all together.

There are 4 of us . . .we could sit two and two . . .one right in front of the other . . .

I don't think I can fly like that . . .with DH and DD in front of my seat instead of next to me . . .I think I'm being anal . . .

Have any of you ever not sat all together?

If the price was right and as long as each child was with a parent, I would be okay with it. Not ideal, obviously, but I could handle it if I had to.

I would sit at the rear of the plane with everyone else scattered about to get away from this SNOW!
:(

Every time DH and I fly with our kids we always have our seats 2 and 2 behind each other. We have twins and have been flying with them since they were 18 months old. If we all sat in the same row when there are 3 seats , then either DH or I would have been sitting with both kids while the other adult would have been across the aisle and unable to help. I don't see a problem sitting 2 and 2. If the airline tries to book our whole family in 1 aisle, I ask them to change it. I would have more of a problem if DH and one of my kids had to sit at the back of the plane while I was at the front with one kid (had this happen once-it's hard to get to the bathroom by yourself or kid swap when they want to sit with Daddy now instead of you).

Oh sure . . .side with DH . .. LOL ;)

Actually I've been playing with this idea . . .because of several reasons:

1. We have 4 unused plane tickets from November 30th which we have to use by end of April . . .The flight would only cost us $50/ticket to re-book.

2. We have annual passes which expire July 4th at midnight

3. Even though this "proposed" trip will be the week before Easter . . .it wouldn't cost a lot . . .except of course that its PEAK season . . .

Thanks for your help!

Sorry to side with your DH, but I would go in a heartbeat. We have never sat all together on the plane. To do that, we'd need 4 seats in a row, which would put us in the middle section (if the plane was big enough) and I hate the middle. We have always sat 2 and 2 in front of the other, except once, when we sat 3, and then 1 in the middle section. Sitting 2 and 2 actually keeps the kids from fighting LOL. Our next trip may be different though, as we now have a portable DVD and the kids will need to sit together to both watch.

Well, since airline rows only have two or three seats per row, you aren't all sitting 'together' anyway you look at it. (Have you ever noticed that on some airlines rows on the left and right don't line up the same way?) I think you obsessing a little too much here.

We're a family of 5 and almost always have to sit that way. It's rare that we get a row across. I have two teenagers and a 6 year old. As long as the little one sat with either me or DH, I don't care how they seat us! (prefer to be together but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for a great price) But, that's just me :)

I am in total agreement with CarolA. The fact that you get seats would be enough for me.

You do sit 2 and 2 in the CAR, right? And you spend much more time in cars than on planes during a typical year I would assume. Stop being so anal (your words) and book that flight now!!

;) ;) ;)

I think as long as you can get a seat on the plane, I'd go for it. We once had one seat in row 6, one seat in row 7, one seat in row 29, and one seat in row 31 ~ those were the only seats left to be assigned on this flight, which after booking them, showed sold out, and it was the last flight of the day. We just felt lucky to get seats! LOL

I know on my one leg enroute to Orlando, someone wanted my seat so she could sit with her children, and I gave her mine and I took hers (and was kicked by her child the entire way to Orlando! ) You could always ask the people around you if they'd mind switching seats.

I feel like you and usually book the 4 across method, since it easier to deal with the kids, in my opinion. But there have been SEVERAL flights I've booked and had to fly 2 and 2, and not behind each other either. Usually 15 - 20 rows apart!!! Yes, it's a pain, but I'd do that before not going anywhere!!!! Also, think each of your kids will get a window seat, I know my kids always fight over who gets the window!!!

Oh my gosh, yes I think you are being too anal!

I have a 3 and 7 yo and sometimes our seat assigments aren't even 2 & 2. A lot of times at the gate I can get reseated so that we are close, but it usually works out that we're 2 & 2. Sometimes it is 3 & 1 and we fight for which one gets to sit by theirsef and read ;)

Hope you have a good trip!

We usually fly smaller planes with the 3 and 3 seating or the 2 and 3 and 2 so there is no chance for all of us to sit together in one row. However, we have found that it works our GREAT to sit 2 and 2 as there is no sibling fights and one parent can focus completely on one child.

In fact, we are flying 2 and 2 on separate airlines this summer! We have 2 frequent flyer tickets and bought the other 2 tickets on the airline with the best fares.

As long as I'm sitting next to my 9 y/o dd, it would be fine with me. Dh wouldn't mind being somewhere else I'm sure!

Go, Go, Go!!!!!!
We have DD 2 and 4. We have flown many times since my youngest was 2 months old and I prefer 2 and 2. It sure beats 3 and 1 like we sometimes have to fly.

We've been on more than one flight where we've booked seats together (there were only 3 of us) and due to overbooking or whatever other problems they were having we ended up sitting at opposite ends of the plane. This happened on different airlines so I can't point the finger at it being a problem with a certain airline. So even if you do book seats together it's no guarantee. I head for WDW in a heartbeat, regardless of the seating arrangements!

That happened to a friend and me on a trip last month. We booked 20 A & B, when we got our boarding passes we were 26F & 27F. The type of aircraft changed and row 20 was the lavatory!

One time I was traveling with my mom and the only seats we could get preassigned were middle seats in the same row. When we got to the airport, they were able to move one of us to an aisle seat next to one of the middle seats.

Wish.....

I say "Get over it and go!"

The way I see it is everyone on the plane is going to the same place and will get there at the same time.

When my kids were small, when we flew with the kids we ALWAYS sat 2 and 2. It just made it easier on DH and myself only having to deal with ONE kid each. Plus there was the added benefit of them not fighting with each other for 2 blessed hours!

Like another poster said, you sit 2 and 2 in the car...and you'll probably sit 2 and 2 on a bus at WDW.

Enjoy....

I do agree with you that I would much rather sit with my whole family - I'm anal like that too.

BUT - Years ago Northwest had a great fare sale, something like $75 each way anywhere in US. My whole family went to Colorado to visit my brother. We ended up spread out all over the plane because flights were packed full. My 6-year-old niece ended up sitting behind me (between two gentlemen). We tried to get her with her parents, but they couldn't even do that. It was a crazy scene. She ended up chattering away for the whole 2 1/2 flight to these two guys and I heard it all - very funny. My niece is now 17 and it is one of our favorite stories to tell about her - how she kept these two guys entertained the whole way. I guess that was making lemonade out of lemons.
