Would you be worried?

I guess I am looking for some reassurance. Tomorrow, I am flying out of Dulles to Las Vegas. With the latest terrorist message, I am getting concerned. I know that Las Vegas has been mentioned as a possible target in the past. DH says not to worry there is nothing we can do about it anyway. I just hate flying and now this is really going to put me on edge. I guess I will just have to have a couple of bloody marys before and while in the air to calm my nerves. I am not a drinker, so with 2 I should hopefully fall asleep. I just do not want this to put a damper on the trip. Thanks for listening. :sad2:

Just be alert of your surroundings, and try to think of how much fun you'll have when you get there!

My parents are headed out to Colorado, and then driving to Vegas and the surrounding area this weekend. :) It's so pretty out there.

Have a great trip!!!

I've always been a nervous flier. Add 9/11 to that and it takes a lot to get me on a plane (or Disney, LOL). Just keep thinking about the final destination. I second what Esmerelda said about being alert to your surroundings but don't be so overly alert that you can't enjoy yourself.
Anytime I think of the terrorists I then try to remind myself that if I don't do something just because of them, I'm letting them win. Would that sort of thought process help you? For me, it's a personal need to never let them win that gives me the extra courage to do a lot. I just can't let it happen and will do those little things so that in my eyes, they won't win. It may not really help, but to me it does.
Also remember, security is way above where it was 3 years ago. I know there are still lapses but it has improved immensely. Are we safe? No. But we're safer. And remember, the likelihood of a terrorist event happening anywhere is the same as anywhere else. Afterall the country has lousy intelligence. How do we really know Las Vegas is a target and some other place isn't?
Just try to relax (I know it's really tough) and just imagine ending up where you're going and doing what you want to do. And you will.

I hate to fly as well but considering how many flights there are in the air each day the odds of it being your plane are astronomical in your favor that nothing will happen. Only 4 got taken on that horrible day (and I know "only" isn't comfort for those famiies or those who lost a loved one in anyway on 9-11) but if you look at it from that perspective it is a little easier to "take".

I hate flying and hate it even worse sine 9-11. Maybe you could call your doc in the morning and have them prescribe a xanax before you go. If not get a "little loaded" and then try to remember how much FUN you will have in Vegas when you get there!

Thanks for the help. I am getting ready to leave for the airport now and my stomach is a mess. MouseClubMom, thanks for the website, I stayed up last night until 1:30AM on that site. Wish me luck and a smooth flight!

Patty,

Something else that helped me overcome my fear of flying...
Become really interested in how planes work. I'm serious, even if you have to pretend you're interested. Learn about the mechanics of flight and you will feel better. Listen for certain things and smile when you can say "Hey I know what that sound was" or "I know all about turbulence and how it works".

It sounds silly, but it works.

Also, watch children on your plane. Children on planes are usually happy (at least one the planes I've been on) and sometimes, watching them play can help and be comforting.

You'll be fine!

I agree...watching the children has always helped me!

I've been a nervous flyer for YEARS. 9/11 made it worse as my husband was flying out of Newark that day :(. We were blessed and he is safe and sound, unlike so many other poor souls. But, those thoughts are in my mind every time he flies or I fly. Sad but true :( .

However, watching the kids around me, bringing a book that I've already started and am deeply into and striking up conversation with a neighbor on the plane have always helped ease my tensions. And a nice vodka tonic (or two...or three) surely doesn't hurt ;) LOL!

Good luck! I know you will be fine! And just imagine, I'm already worried about our flight in October. We leave for Disney on the Saturday prior to election day :( ....been stressin' about that for months now! Oh darn...I need a vodka tonic!!!!!

What latest terrorist message???????????

I would like to know as well? My Dad just arrived in Las Vegas this morning for my Step-Brothers Wedding. They fly out on Sunday.
